    Ensalada de Aquacate (Avocado salad).
    Edward C.

Looking to expand our palette, I suggested to my sister to try La Ronda for our first Ecuadorian dining experience. To start our meal we chose two appetizers; sweet plantains with cheese (Maduros con queso) and an avocado salad (Ensalada de aguacate). The combination of grilled sweet plantains and cheese was bound to be good; the plantains were nicely caramelized and the gooey mozzarella-like cheese contrasted with just the right amount of saltiness. To balance our palettes, we added the Avocado salad and it was nicely prepared with all the vegetables being very fresh; especially the silky Avocado slices. We both enjoyed the tangy lemon juice based dressing as well. We both ordered entrees from the weekend specials section; me the Hornado (roasted pork) platter and my sister the Fritada (fried pork) platter. I really enjoyed my Hornado platter. Firstly the unique "mote" giant (boiled and peeled) corn kernels were satisfyingly sweet, juicy, and so addictive with a pleasing pop when bitten into. The spoonful of salsa topping the mote added a welcoming tang and acidity. I loved the Llapchingos (potato patties) that were slightly crispy from being pan seared, yet retaining the smooth mashed potato texture inside. Finally onto the roast pork (Hornado) which was quite flavorful with a distinct gamey taste from the moist dark meat and a hint of smokiness. Seasoning was kept quite light handed with not much I could distinguish besides salt and pepper. My sister thoroughly enjoyed her Fritada platter. The most prominent and delicious part of this platter were the several meaty and fatty fried pork chunks. This platter also had a nicely sized grilled plantain, that was just like our appetizer sans cheese. The addicting mote was here too. Finally the other difference was the inclusion of toasted corn kernels that added a nice crunch and was so reminiscent of a Peruvian side dish I've enjoyed before. To conclude, service was very attentive and friendly, and the restaurant (while not fancy) was clean and comfortable. My very good experience at La Ronda has me planning another visit soon or to seek another Ecuadorian restaurant!

Stumbled upon this hidden treasure. Being married to an Ecuadorian woman, I'm exposed to cuisine very often at home. Having the meals we ordered I can say the food was delicious. VERY BIG portions. For an appetizer we ordered the Bolton Gigante Mixto con queso y chicharron (mixed green plantain dumpling with cheese and pork). For our dinner we ordered Arroz Marinero (rice w/seafood) and chilfles with camarones apanados ( green plantain chips w/ breaded shrimp). Each shrimp was half of the size of the palm of my hand. I asked for the homemade ranch to dip them in and it was also delicious. Another great part was having leftovers for the following day. Parking is available. Very spacious location. Very good service. Also, very clean place. Looking forward to another trip there.

Half-eaten taco box (couldn't manage a photo before my family dug in)

Ordered the taco box, chicken and steak, last minute for my son's mini birthday party. Definitely did not disappoint! My only regret is not ordering two. The tacos were delicious with the sauce they provided. The nachos were simple and plain but we added guacamole and that was fresh and paired perfectly with the nachos.

    Meat looked old.

My girlfriend and I ordered from here today as we were looking for some really good Spanish food to have for dinner to celebrate our anniversary during this quarantine. The photos on the website looked good and the reviews seemed fine too. We selected the pick-up option and the food was ready in about an hour. We picked up the food and got home only be be EXTREMELY disappointed. We got a very generous proportion which is the only good thing. We ordered the grilled steak platter and the steak au jus. The meat looked grey and felt like rubber. The fries that came with it looked soggy and had absolutely no flavor. The avocados came with several brown/black spots on them and the rice was so tasteless. We gave it a try and couldn't get through the food because of how sickening the meat looked. I wish I took a photo of everything for this review before I tossed it out. We are definitely never ordering from here again.

They have a large display of breads in the display case, but I am not familiar with the names. With the exception of corn bread, the breads looked to have a Spanish background, I also inferred this from the patrons and the spanish newspapers neatly stacked in a corner. I tried to ask what the name of one particular bread was which looked like an "ensaymada", but the attendant was not sure either. Nonetheless I tried it. It was interesting, it had a star anis flavor along with what looked to be black sesame seeds. Nonetheless the place has a neighborhood charm all its own and its a nice place to stop by if you are in Plainfield, on a cold, snowy, day to have a coffee and pastry.

New to the area but we've been invited to two birthday parties where they purchased the birthday…read morecake from here. One of my kids' birthdays is coming up so I decided to keep that going. I haven't tried too many cakes in the area so I can't truly compare to give it a full 5 star rating BUT the comments I hear a lot of is they use fresh fruit in their cakes. I usually get birthday cakes from Asian bakeries where fresh fruit is expected so that was an interesting comment to make from my POV. The fruit birthday cakes I've had from here are pretty good. Not too sweet and the most interesting fruit fillings I've had in cake - banana! Among other fruits. The cake isn't as light/airy as I'm used to but not bad at all. The buttercream is on the sweeter side for me but okay if you eat it with the cake and don't leave it until the end. It's not a terribly thick layer. But the cakes were super colorful and it's a lot of food coloring with how saturated the colors are. Your mouth and tongue will be stained if you're not careful. Having said that, I ordered an Oreo cake because that's why my kid wants. BUT I did request that instead of buttercream on the outside, it'll be whipped cream. Still buttercream on the inside though. I'll update this review after the party as it hasn't happened yet. This is a shop that sort of takes you back when you walk in. It's located in a corner shopping center of sorts and they have a shared parking lot so no need to hunt for parking. It has a nostalgic feel with display cases along much of the length, refrigerated sections for drinks (some were Asian which surprised me) and ice cream cake. Plus a wall of candles and birthday cake decorations because they do take a lot of orders for special occasions. No extra frills and nothing for decor's sake. There was a steady line when I went on Sunday morning. Two doors, one designed to be the entrance and the other the exit (but there isn't a police so use whichever door, but the line starts at the entrance door). As you walk up to the counter, someone will help you out. They've got all sorts of things from pastries to cookies, cakes, cupcakes, cannoli's, pies... even a tres leches section that was woefully empty. The only thing is for some odd reason, there are signs of what the items were, but absolutely no prices were posted in the display cases. At least none that I was aware of. I was passed onto the manager to take my order. It took a little time because I'm pretty sure she also decorates cakes and some people were waiting on them but I eventually got my order in. A 9" Oreo cake (for up to 16 people) with whipped cream exterior and birthday message is about $75. I added on a tres leches on a whim - they sold out early but a new batch just finished so I got one straight from the kitchen - was roughly $10. Receipts are old school, orders taken on a paper pad with a carbon copy given to you. I've had a number of tres leches cakes before and this is one of a kind! Deliciously moist, whipped topping - and the cake is halved. In between, they put fruit in there! Plus a maraschino cherry on top and cinnamon dusted over it. It was nowhere near "too sweet" and I rather enjoyed it. A lot. In fact, I'm thinking of calling in to see if I can get some for the party for the adults. My picky daughter loved it. Overall, I have a pretty good impression of this bakery and I'm looking to trying more items over time.

This was my second visit, and once again, everyone was incredibly patient and nice. The atmosphere is bright yet cozy, they have plenty of books and a lot of room to catch up with friends or settle in for some work. This time around, we tried the Coco Cloud Matcha. If you enjoy fun and funky beverages, this is a must; it's a blend of coconut water and matcha that somehow tastes sweet and milky while remaining both rich and refreshing. I'm not sure how they pull it off, but I'm obsessed! If you prefer a more traditional option, the Strawberry Matcha is a decadent choice, I love that you can actually taste the fresh strawberry compote. We also had the Tres Leches Coffee, which featured a perfect balance of creaminess and bold espresso notes. We ordered it hot this time, and while I personally find it ideal iced, it's wonderful that it works so well both ways. For treats, we chose the Dulce de Leche cake. While the sponge wasn't quite as moist as I expected, the overall flavor was superb, especially with the addition of the meringue. To balance the sweetness with something salty, we added a savory spinach and feta pastry. Definitely ask for it to be heated for the best experience! Not pictured, but equally noteworthy, were the empanadas. They offer both beef and chicken, served with a delicious green cilantro sauce. Being that this summer has been absolutely sweltering this year, soft ice cream always seems to be my dessert of choice on those unbearably hot days. This place in the middle of Westfield is very clean on the inside, really nice and luckily on the day we visited, there was nobody inside so we were attended to immediately. They have multiple flavors of soft serve ice cream, At this visit we decided upon the monster cookies and chocolate soft swerve swirl. We thought about their other desserts, but ultimately decided against it but the mason jar sundae looked amazing. The ice cream itself, the chocolate was silky and smooth and absolutely as soft ice cream should be. The monster cookies tasted okay, but was a little gritty for soft serve. Maybe this flavor would work better with some of their other desserts, but as stand alone soft serve, it just was not it. I've had monster cookie adjacent ice creams usually as hard ice cream, and maybe it works better that way. Overall, solid, definitely would try their other flavors and other extensive desserts available.
