STAY AWAY! This woman does not know the meaning of Good Will. This dry cleaning and tailoring shop is within walking distance of where I live and work. I had been a customer for the last 6 years, possibly more. Over the years I brought a ton of business to the owner of this establishment. Cumulatively, I spent several thousand dollars at this location. The owner made a few work suits for me. I also used her dry cleaning services. In the last few years I lost a lot of weight so she also did altering for me. I was a faithful and loyal customer and always paid on time. As to be expected, over time we developed a rapport. I thought we had become friends or good acquaintances. The one thing I did not like about her is that she barters and whines a lot about money. I often felt like I was being nickeled and dimmed. I overlooked this negative quality about her. Recently, I owed her a small amount of money for alterations, to wit, $200.00. I also owed a smaller amount for dry clearing, to wit, $36.00. (She charged me $36.00 for dry cleaning 2 pairs of pants. That is way above market price. Even in DTLA). I told her I was coming by to pick up and pay for my dry cleaning. When I arrived, she told me that I had to pay the full amount due or she would not give me my clothes. She also told me that she would call security if I did not leave. She said all of this in front of another customer. In other words, she trashed me for $200.00! Notwithstanding the rapport I thought we had developed and my patronage of her business over the last 6 or more years. The following day, I sent her a text and told her that it was inappropriate for her to have refused to give me my dry cleaning when I had offered her payment for that service. Also, I reminded her that if she had been set up to take credit cards, I could have already paid the alteration bill. She then told me that was now set up to accept credit cards. A few hours later, I went to her business and paid her with a credit card. She whined again and told me that she is paying $184.00 for the square credit card set up. But that she does not have customers. I did not respond to that comment. It was more of her typical behavior. Thereafter she tried to be friendly as if nothing had happened the day prior. I paid her the $236.00 I owed her and I left. I will never patronize her business again. I was a loyal and good paying customer for many years. I did not deserve to be treated in a disrespectful manner. Particularly in front of another customer. No one else does that. She should have been understanding and have waited for payment. This was over a past due amount of $200.00. I hope the $200.00 was worth it to her. I now understand why she does not have many long term customers. read more

I was flying out for a wedding, and I had a suit that was much too large on me that I needed altered. Obviously, I had forgotten to take it to a tailor sooner, so I was in a huge rush. I could not have been more impressed with La Romano's turnaround time (btw, the name is Romano with an "o" not an "a" at the end). What took other tailors at least a week was done next day. No extra charge, no hassle. As for the tailoring itself, the pants needed to be taken in at the waist and taken in along the pant leg. The tailor also said the pant lengths needed to be hemmed (thanks a bunch Brooks Brothers..), so they did that too. The jacket similarly needed to be taken in significantly. The total cost was $125, including tax. Seemed about right given my experiences with other tailors. I thought that the pants fit like a dream. Absolutely perfect. The suit jacket, however, requires an asterisk. Because of the size of suit and because of the amount of alteration I needed, the jacket couldn't be perfectly tailored to me. This was fine, I guess. Not the tailor's fault. He did the best he could, and he showed me that if he took it in anymore, the pockets would be all the way on the side of the jacket. My issue is that I was expecting it to fit just right, and I felt that they should have informed me ahead of time that the jacket couldn't be perfectly tailored and asked me if I would like them to go through with a best-they-could-do job or not. Instead, they just did it, and even if it wasn't their fault, I was stuck with an imperfect suit jacket despite the full-price tailoring. read more

I don't have too much experience with tailors and was looking for tailors in DTLA. I had a sportcoat that needed to be tapered and the sleeves taken in, and Yelp led me to La Romano. It's very hard to find (I walked here the first time), as it's tucked away in the corner underneath the Citi building on the lower plaza level. It's a mom and pop place, but pretty upscale. The interior is small but they sell cufflinks, ties, nicer stuff as well. The service was a bit gruff at first but warmed up after we started talking. The sleeves cost $25 to be taken in and $45 to be tapered, which was not as cheap as some of the Yelp reviews led me to believe (although I think those were all for dresses, maybe it's more for suits). Unfortunately, I was on a bit of a time crunch so I just had it done here. The lady, Rose, was nice and helpful and even gave me $5 off after I explained my situation. They're also flexible with timing and can get things done depending on your urgency. PARKING: If you're in the downtown area, you can walk, but they also validate for one hour. The parking garage itself is really hard to find. Armed with very specific and detailed instructions, I managed to park in the right spot my second time back when I picked up my jacket, but it wasn't easy. You need to come in the Citi Group building parking entrance right off Flower (be careful, City National Plaza parking is right next door and downtown parking can be like $40 if you're not validated). The work itself was okay. The sleeves were done well, but the tapering wasn't quite as slim as I wanted it. I get the feeling that they're experienced and professional but aren't as used to modern cuts and fitting. All in all, it was a bit expensive, but not bad and convenient if you work or live nearby, otherwise it's a huge pain to find and get to. I might come back but will also keep my ears open for other good and cheap tailors in the area. read more

0 stars if possible. Or -5. She ruined my wedding dress. I brought it in to have the bust altered and she took it apart, stuffed it like a double-D with lumpy wiring, and gave it back to me... all within one week and 4 different fittings. I never said anything about double-D's... just make it fit me. On top of that, I gave her a second evening gown to be brought up. She made the front longer than the back and argued that it's straight when you lay it down. Lady, I have what's called a butt. Of course you need to let the back hang a little longer than the front so that when you put it on, it's even!! She even tried to tell me it didn't need to be fixed. One time I came in for a fitting and she tripped over my dress to run for the phone, (a call which she missed). Then she complained to me that she had been waiting for that call... no apologies for tripping and staining a white satin gown. Poor skills. Untimely service. Severly overpriced. read more

Guy here is like the tailor nazi. Gruff, curt, even borderline rude. But dayam he can do the job. If you need a quick hem, go to your normal drycleaner. They'll be nicer and make you feel more warm and fuzzy. But if like me you bought a great suit online (final sale) where the jacket ended up fitting perfectly but the pants would only have fit my 16 year old self... you will save yourself alot of time by going straight to La Romano. Dude can make suits out of sheets of fabric so you know he understands construction (and more importantly, deconstruction). Was the final fit the best? No. But they made it work and undertook a job that countless other "tailors" flat out turned down. I had one guy just laugh and say that I should just give that suit to my little brother because, outside of not guaranteeing that the altered pants would fit, I may as well buy a new suit by the time he would be done charging me. Lady who runs this joint is friendly and quotes the prices. This place (and Alex's reweaving) are my two secrets/pro-tips for anyone with a nice wardrobe. These guys really should advertise on yelp more because they're really doing something that people are looking for and is hard to find. read more

Quick, solid and reasonably priced service, and the woman running the shop made a fair deal with me when I brought a bunch of items in. She also didn't charge me until after the work was done, contrary to what other reviewers have said. The man who did my measurements was gruff, but seemed to have a lot of expertise. On the issue of smells that the other reviewer mentioned: they smells were still noticeable outside the store when I visited a few weeks ago, but Mendocino Farms has apparently stopped offering some of their fried items until they figure out their ventilation issues. If you go to this place now, the smells might be even more faint, though I can't say for sure. My clothes did come back with a very faint odor of fried food though (if I buried my nose in them), so I have to give them only 3 stars for that. read more

I will not go back to this tailor. My blazer that was altered had to be thrown away from the SEVERELY UNPLEASANT SMELL of cooked oil and animal fat, from the kitchen of the Mendocino farms attached to the store. There was no way of getting that smell out. I could not leave it in my home. They required payment (which was higher than any other tailor I've ever been to) before the work was done. The blazer wasn't the highest quality of clothing (Land's End), but it was new. The alteration was poorly done- still too big and the button didn't line up to the button hole! Go somewhere else for alterations. read more

The kind lady charged me nothing to hem a loose pant on one leg. Polite, professional and very friendly, I will definitely have all my tailor needs brought to this store. read more

Don't expect smiles; they're kinda like the tailor-nazis. But they're good at what they do and they do it pretty quickly. It's a perfect place if you work in the area and can't get things taken care of closer to home because everything is closed by the time you get home. The dry cleaner next door is related so if you want tailoring use the dry cleaner entrance even though it looks like you can go in through the tailor side. read more

This place is hard to find. I was within 50 yards of it and nobody knew where it is. The service is not so great and the attention to detail worse. Knowing it would be a hassle to park downtown, I called ahead and asked if they did a certain thing and they said sure come right down. I did and after going in circles trying to find this place they I finally got there and they told me they couldn't do it. The lady sent me to another place maybe 8 blocks because she was absolutely sure they could help me. It wasn't the right place. So I came back and decided to work around my problem and do what she suggested to fix my garment. When I got back to her shop, she was on the phone and neither her or her husband would help me. I left without getting help even though I called ahead of time and she assured me she could fix my thing. Everything is overpriced in downtown LA and this place was no different. I am giving it only two stars because of all the time they wasted of mine. read more

She did a great job and is very detail-oriented! She explained thoroughly about how she'll do the alterations and everything turned out to be exactly the same as how she described, which is just wonderful. She altered two of my pants (one being too long, another was destroyed by a previous tailor--which pisses this lady and she keeps cursing the previous tailor and tells me how she hates unprofessional tailors who ruined people's clothes, which I find cute and funny). The two pants turned out to be perfectly fitted. They are both flowy, light material and both have a special cut. She altered the length without changing the original shape/cut of the trousers, which I absolutely love! Both draped well and just looked so good! It's a miracle that she turned unappealing and ill-fitted pieces to "holy shit look at me I'm a model" thing. She also altered a chunky sweater that I've thrifted. It was super oversized, the sleeves are like doubled length of my arm. She cut the sleeves off the shoulder, altered it and sew it back. It was seamless! The sweater fits perfectly now! Definitely recommend this place!!!! read more

La Romano is everything I'm looking for in an alterations place. It's convenient, great customer service, delivers as promised if not earlier and more importantly reasonably price. Moving forward all my alterations will definitely be at this location. read more

Wow! I was recommended to go here but a custom suit maker and it did not disappoint. Rose was very kind and professional. I had cheap that needed to be tailored she made it look like a custom suit! Would highly recommend!! read more

I took a dress I had bought for my gf to get altered in order to fit properly. Because my gf couldnt take the dress herself that day I had to take it and explain the lady working there everything my gf wanted to get modified. She understood everything perfectly and did a great job. But the most impressive thing was that the lady was able to do the whole alteration in less than a day(no extra fee!!) and all for $25!! Customer service was very awesome too. I am definitely coming here whenver I need to get my clothes altered. And by the way they also do dry cleaning!!! read more

Wonderful! My Bridal gown fit perfect! They were fast and professional. I had two other tailors quote me $150 and all this stuff that had to be done...I was told that was ridiculous and my price was only $30! I sent my Bridesmaid to them and she loved them too. Valet parking is easy, they were nice and now I'm sending my husband to them for everything too! read more

WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT. Rosa came highly recommended to make slacks. I was told on 4 separate occasions the pants would be completed. After 5 visits back to the store still NO Pants. The excuses- I have to go to court, too busy, tailor in hospital. Hmmm I thought she was the tailor. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. read more

RUINED MY DRESS. Just needed the straps on my dress tighten. Picked up the dress Friday evening did not get a chance to try on the dress since she was "closing". Went home tried it on and instead of adjusting the straps she cut up my dress and made it a size smaller in the waist! I could not get the zipper up. Had to go to get it altered at another place on Saturday as I had an event that evening. Also she did not give me a refund and stated the other shop ruined the dress when I went to show her what she did. Also the dress had a smell to it when I picked it up. Will not be returning. Proceed with caution. read more

Rose helped me out in a pinch!! She tailored my bikini on a quick 24 hour stay at the hotel next door! My own hometown seamstress wouldn't do it! I'm so impressed! Thanks Rose, you've got my business next time I'm in town, and I'm sending you others! read more

Had a major malfunction with a bottle of red wine in my suitcase on an airplane flight. The "VinniBag" failed and I had red wine douche my entire contents - silk shirts, pants, wool sports coat plus the jeans, socks, t-shirts and underwear. Everything! Concierge at Bonaventure recommended La Romano. I called and she said bring it over. That was 3:00 on Wednesday. She promised my sports coat, one shirt, and one pair of slacks by 3:30 on Thursday for a dinner meeting I had. By noon on Thursday, all of my Laundry had been laundered and pressed. Red wine stains? Gone! By 2:00 not only did she deliver the sports coat, shirt, and slacks, she delivered EVERYTHING ELSE!!! Service doesn't get any better than that. I didn't meet the tailor Eric L. discussed, but she was as nice as could be and the total bill was only $68 - which was more reasonable than my dry cleaners back in Seattle. If in downtown LA, please give this shop a try. They take customer service very seriously! read more

I go here primarily because it's so close to my office, but La Romano is a strong, reasonably priced tailoring and dry cleaning shop and I'd go here even if I lived further away. I can't give it 5 stars because my dry cleaning is chronically late. But it's superb on every other metric: the Armenian husband and wife who run the place are friendly and treat regulars well, they actually do great tailoring, my clothes reliably come back in great shape, and they don't nickel and dime you. read more

This place does HORRIBLE WORK, and has ridiculously bad customer service. I only interacted with a woman so it's possible that the man is better, but I would not return to this location. I felt like I was being swindled. I was overcharged for horrible work. I'm still upset about it. I doubt that this place has repeat customers. read more

The first suit I bought was from Fred Seigal and the tailoring was included. I bought two cheaper suits from Zara and didn't want to spend too much money but still wanted to look good. I studied GQ to find out how they should look hemmed and went to El Ramano. I explained to the owner what I wanted and she gave me a lot of insight about tailoring styles. I decided to hem the pants to the shoe (no socks showing except when crossing legs). She said she would buy the pants if it was wrong. I immediately liked the confidence in standing behind her work. She hemmed it perfectly within a day! They have an amazing attention to detail and will return your clothes in the bags they came in. I read in another review this was hard to find but I had no problem, it's in the bottom of the CTI building. I highly recommend El Ramano. They are in the heart of downtown LA and are pros at tailoring suits. read more
