We had: - cream of beet and carrot soup - lamb chops - chicharrón de pulpo (crispy octopus) - scallops ceviche style Everything was delicious, except the apple pie, which was way too buttery. The service was attentive, but clumsy at times. They brought me a dirty decanter for a $150 US bottle of wine, then ran away with the cork and the bottle after they poured it into a clean decanter, which I had to request. I also spent the entire lunch pouring my own wine, which is pretty uncharacteristic in Mexico. Overall, the ambience is casual and inviting. Not too fancy. I ate here recently as part of a business meeting in Tijuana and I've got to say, it was probably the best meal I've had in 2023. We had about a dozen courses at the chef's discretion and every one of them was well balanced, flavorful, and in many cases a great textural surprise. Near the end of our meal I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Miguel, learning about one of his recent fishing trips, and having a shot of his rattlesnake tequila. I have been to this restaurant numerous times, so my review is based on a totality of my experience, not just a one time visit that is so common on Yelp. Simply put, the flavors brought by the chef, the unique dishes served in a city known for traditional Mexican cooking, and the overall experience are the reason why I keep going back to Tijuana for an amazing meal. The food is why I come. It's displays high quality ingredients, and the chef's ability to highlight the natural flavors with the appropriate sauces and spices is commendable. I recommend ordering any of the carpaccio dishes from the menu and you won't be disappointed, other than for the fact that you didn't order a second plate. If you are not a meat enthusiast, the zucchini carpaccio holds up to the rest, as I compared it to the beef carpaccio I love so much. It was light, yet flavorful, acting as though vegetables were the primary inspiration for thin sliced food preparations all along. The seafood dishes are fresh and diverse in their preparation. The octopus prepared table side in an iron skillet is not only delicious, but entertaining as the tequila flambé draws a lot of attention. The tacos have been criticized in previous reviews, but please put it in context. La Querencia is a Mediterranean/Mexican style restaurant. If you want tacos, you should probably be in another restaurant that does nothing but tacos. What I have found is the tacos are very basic, but they are a platform to showcase the unique ingredients and fresh meats offered here. The tortillas are roasted on a wood fired grill, not fried. The meat options are as unique and plentiful as any place I have ever been, ranging from hibiscus flower to beef to pork to marlin. Personally I never miss an opportunity to order a beef cheek and suckling pig taco, and I am not disappointed by their tenderness and smooth flavors. The service has always been top notch for in my experiences. I have dined here with my wife and children, my adult siblings, and friends. In each case, we were a large group consisting of some Spanish and some English speakers. We have asked for separate checks, had many questions, and many picky eaters over the course of our visits. In every case, the staff worked as a team to meet our needs, and never left us without. Furthermore, the same head waiter is always there, and each time we come, he personally greets me and welcomes me back. Our visits are months apart, so either we are a nightmare of a dinner party, or he values his guests and makes a point of remembering them. Either way, I appreciate the gesture. As for the price and ambiance, I am again giving them five stars. This is not a high brow, fancy restaurant with white linen service. If you want that, go across the street to the larger and overpriced corporate owned Villa Saverios. This is a casual atmosphere, fine dining experience where you can come in wearing jeans or a suit and feel welcome. The food is the five star experience. Yes, this dinner will cost you more than the taco stands throughout Tijuana, but if you compare it to a similar restaurant in San Diego or Orange County, you are paying less than half the price for the same quality of meal. I am always amazed when I feed a family of five with multiple appetizers, main courses, salads, drinks and dessert for $120 or less. If that price point scares you, rest easy, there is a McDonalds down the street, you can stop there instead. If I were to offer any criticisms, I have found that their website is not current and they do not respond to the messages sent inquiring about reservations. I prefer to use this option instead of making international calls from California, but it didn't work out. Also, I would love to see more daily or seasonal specials on their menu. Expectations were set high for a meal at La Querencia. The restaurant's chef is Miguel Angel Guerrero, the father of Baja Med cuisine -- which is influenced by Mediterranean, Mexican, and Asian cuisine. What I find intriguing is this chef is a hunter and a fisherman. What he catches is at times what is served in this restaurant. As with many restaurants these days, they grow the produce in their garden. It was quite the scene inside the restaurant. It was obvious that this place was the choice restaurant of well-to-do locals. You'll feel a buzz in the restaurant and notice the taxidermy in the restaurant. It is great for people watching. Maybe you'll see someone like Bono of U2, who was guest at his restaurant. We went with some of the recommended items off the menu. A couple of the dishes had the same flavors. I ordered the tacos and thought they were good. I have had better tacos in Tijuana for less money. My favorite of the evening was the recommended shot glass of fresh seafood. For a restaurant considered among the best in Tijuana, the service was sufficient. Not the service I would expect for this kind of restaurant in the States. If I compared to the service to Corazon de Tierra in Valle de Guadalupe, one of the best restaurants in Latin America, the service at La Querencia could use some improvement. read more

I've been out for a sit-down meal in Tijuana twice, and both times I've ended up here. The ambience is lively (especially as it gets late) and the menu is scattered across various blackboards. The only way I've been able to get through it is to put your faith in your waiter and get him to bring you food until you've decided you've had enough. That said, if you can figure out how to guide your waiter to the dish that involves chunks of octopus flambeed in tequila, I highly highly recommend it -- the crunchy and meaty textures with the charred and rich flavors was sort of like some of the best bacon I have ever had. In general you won't go wrong with seafood here. But it can get a little expensive (for TJ) if you let them pick your wine for you. read more

You must try the shrimp burrito it is tiny so get two. The risotto is super yummy as well. The margarita also very good you don't taste harsh triple sec. Their dollar to peso is bad here but we didn't have pesos. To find the place, you need to locate a parking lot entrance across the street from Via Saverios and get your ticket stamped by your server you'll pay a few pesos. read more

We found this restaurant on Google as a 4.5 star restaurant... If I could give it a 8 or 10 I would... that was truly a phenomenal experience. From start to finish everything was outstanding and tasted delicious. My salmon was off the hook (I had it blackened) along with the Risotto... quite the experience... This is a family restaurant, but in a good way! They have an amazing menu and even more amazing drinks to get you through your family dinner. It has the baja med inspired cuisine, which is Mediterranean oriental and mexican, all rolled into one. I have to say that I have become such a big fan of this style now. The menu is quite extensive and I can almost guarantee you'll have trouble making up your mind on what you want to eat (I know I always do) I ordered a burrito, and although the portions weren't the biggest (nothing that can compare to the monster california burritos in san diego) they are just the right amount to fill you up. Meet everyone who is anyone in Tijuana at La Quercencia, the crowd of happy locals are good people of the neighborhood. The mixture of the best food and casual family ambiance or the fine wine party of serious diners, with easy going service make La Querencia the go to restaurant of Tijuana. There is no other restaurant in Tijuana we returned to as often or as happily as La Querencia. The Specials, Sopa de Venado say what and before I could full translate the dish into english, we ordered two servings, and found the secret house specialty, only when the owner has been hunting, and now we ask in advance if they have Venison Soup. Almost a consomme with just a bit of meat, 123 simple, a Baja Med cocina extraordinaire. Flamed in Tequila Octopus Crackling served in the hot cast iron skillet is always a great show and we highly recommend coming to La Querencia just for this and a Margarita and a beer. The best dish, best food, best restaurant in Tijuana goes to La Querencia for the Sopes de Chorizo de Abalone, or Octopus Sopes with crispy Callos and roasted salsa verde. La Querencia is the real thing. No description needed, get thee to La Querencia and report back.... Beet carpaccio with blue cheese and mint vinaigrette is a house specialty, paper thin slivers of beets cooked on the wood burning grill. Serious Bootsy Collins funky rockstar. There is plenty of Meat, the Rib Eye and the Del Mike at La Querencia with the 9 chile salsa melts into the meat and is one of the best tasting dishes in Tijuana. La Querencia has tender young lechon and borrego primal tacos, or they serve it anyway you would like, plates are nice for a crowd, but the little tacos well browned with the 9 chile salsa are perhaps our most favorite bites of meat in town. Duck, Pato any way you want, just get the duck, but we like the Burrito, its very small, individual about 4 bites, so everyone gets their own. At least don't touch mine. La Querencia is hunter gatherer fisherman diver farmer chef driven, check out the video of chef, and his hunting and fishing. And the website with great food photos is enough to make you get out the door right now. There are a lot of animal trophies hanging from the walls so be careful bringing the vegan squeamish types. This place was on my list for a while and had high expectations, but it was a real disappointment. The place is very interesting, great lighting and set up. Our server though, he was on the "dry" side, no personality. We ordered a few things from the menu, and in that list I ordered a rabbit and a duck taco. One of my tacos came with a piece of plastic/rubber. I told the server and he did not say a word, he just took the plate and walked back into the kitchen. We called him back and then he said that they were going to re-make them the way they are supposed to be done. Of course, I had lost my appetite; it was pretty disgusting! I told him not to bother. The next dish came and I did not care for it. Probably what bothered me the most was that when he went back to the kitchen, server and Chefs were laughing. I'm not for sure it was about my order or the "plastic" on my taco, but nobody seemed to make the smallest effort to make up for their mistake. Considering this place it's on the "higher-end" price in Tijuana, this sort of customer/food service should not happen. Of course, not going back and not recommending it to anybody. Absolutely amazing food! I come here every time I come to Tijuana. The tuna steak with avocado salsa is a dish I crave on a regular basis.

This is like hunting lodge meets fine dining. We started with the ahi tostada. It was great but not really an appetizer for more than 1. The Mrs had the salmon salad which was excellent and I had the rib eye which was outstanding as well. The portions were surprisingly larger than I expected. We finished of with a great desert. Include the bottle of wine and the total was 1340 peso before tip. Great dinner. The only negative is the parking. It was FULL. read more
