I personally think the chips were super salty 1/5. So it average out to 3/5. It could be the fact we got there around 8:30pm and they closed at 9pm. So maybe they probably felt rush to serve a table of 5. But it was an ok place. It could be what I got. My rating is always based on experience. My rating is average. So you decide. Mediocre food. Small portions compared to other Mexican restaurants. Won't come back since we have other options at the same price, better quality and better portions. The enchiladas had hardly any cheese in the cheese enchilada and the beef enchilada had a minuscule of beef. Went to El Charro Avitia and bought the same dish. Bigger portions and better tasting. Tried the breakfast burrito this time. Asked for it with green sauce. They put the green sauce on top and inside the burrito. Many times breakfast burritos are dry and lack flavor. What must have been a former Chili's location La Posada Real was a true gamble but a great surprise. To begin our server Claudia was really with it! So attentive and very friendly. She never let a glass get empty and constantly checked in with us to make sure we were fine - thanks Claudia - super job! All the food we ordered was very good. Starting with the chips, salsa and guacamole, the salsa was a tinge spicy and the guacamole flavorful and mild. Next came sizzling chicken fajitas complete with red and green bell peppers, onions and a surprised ingredient mushrooms. It was served with Mexican rice, refried beans with melted cheese and a side of sour cream and guacamole and hot two flour tortillas. I really enjoyed this dish and the portion was just way to much to finish. Why dessert was calling my name I have no idea after all that food, but fried ice cream split in half with Ron seemed doable. So glad we did because it was really good, perfect portion for two and instead of a tortilla shell it was a waffle cone shell which was an interesting twist along with the raspberry and chocolate drizzle. I was in Carson City running errands on my day off and I decided to order some to-go food to take to my wife so we could share lunch together. However that was immediately ruined when I took off the lid to my drink and noticed black chunks of something in the ice. I called the restaurant and spoke to them about it and they said they would take care of it. But I imagine it's mold or something that's in the water lines for their ice makers. Good thing I didn't order any blended drink or I probably would have never noticed. The food is, and always has been great. HOWEVER, they have raised the prices on the beer substantially. $9.50 for ONE tall modelo, $12.50 for one tall michalada. Not too impressed with this place. If you want mexican food, there are other places close by that are much better. We went here on a Tuesday night around 7 and sat in the bar area. It was pretty empty, and our service all night was almost like we were an inconvenience being there. When I asked if they had a drink or margarita menu, the waiter responded that they could make whatever margarita I want. I asked if they had some sort of "skinny" margarita. He looked confused. I said, "you know... made with just lime juice, triple sec..." He laughed and said okay. When I got the margarita it didn't taste right. I thought they'd just made one with squirt and ice, honestly. So on round 2 I asked for just a traditional one on the rocks. Bill came, and they charged me for a "smoothie" for the first drink. Okay... I didn't realize skinny margaritas were that rare. Or maybe they were just lazy. Food was okay. Sopapillas were the best part. But it's hard for those not to be good. Go somewhere else. You'll have better food and better service. read more

Coming from California, I've been spoiled by great Mexican food. So I admit I wasn't expecting much in Carson City. Boy was I wrong! Carson City, I apologize for doubting you. La Posada Real met my expectations and more. The food here is fantastic and you get plenty for your money. I came here with my friend and his family several times and have loved it every time. I'm a big fan of chips and salsa and their salsa is fantastic. What is even more noteworthy is the owner/ operators of this restaurant. They treat their customers like family and are so sweet to the kids. I absolutely love this place and encourage all out-of-towners to enjoy wonderful food and a great family atmosphere. Great places like this need to stay around so everyone, please go here to support a nice family restaurant that is getting it right. Apparently on a Sunday afternoon with a football game on you would expect the beer to be flowing. However, when the two of us are seated at an empty bar it takes 17 minutes just to get water. When ordering food, beers were ordered and they never were delivered. Server never asked if we were enjoying the food, never asked if we needed any other items, and acted as if taking our order was a burden. This is a fantastic gem recommended by a local as we were passing through. I tried their albondigas, which was fantastic. I especially loved the meatballs. I also ordered the Camarones al mojo de ajo. There was plenty of shrimp in a creamy, garlicy sauce. It was to die for. Plus the tortialls were nice and steamy. The service here is also exemplary. We had our main waitress, who seemed to be taking care of the entire restaurant, and then a busboy shadowing wherever was needed. For 10 years, I've passed by this place by foot, bike, and car. Never even wanting to go inside and try the food. I honestly believed they'd be out of business within afew years so why bother! But, all these years later here they are. It was only recently I went here with my family. Chips and salsa were good, but the salsa had a taste of re-fried beans that was overpowering. Could have been a combo of spices in the recipe but, it wasn't as good as it should have been IMO. I ordered the carne asada and wasn't very impressed. The meat wasn't seasoned or flavored. It was plain beef. It was also pretty well done when I asked for medium rare. Other dishes ordered by my family were also underwhelming. This place is a good generic Mexican experience for the common folk of Carson, nothing especially authentic. As for me, the best Mexican food is made by my mother, and I'm at peace knowing that I wasn't missing out all those times I passed this place up. read more

Went in here last night, the waiter was EXTREMELY rude and clearly annoyed that we came in and he had to wait on us. Didn't ask us how many, booth or table or even say a word to us when we walked in. Never responded to any thank you's we said, not check up on how the food was. I've worked in the restaurant industry for five years and understand that it can be frustrating sometimes but at the end of the day, I go out to eat to enjoy myself, not feel like a burden. Not to mention, I'm paying for not only the food but the experience. This gentlemen was rude from the second we walked in the door. This place closes at 9, we walked in at 8:10, ordered our food within 3 minutes of being there and left by 8:40, because we are considerate people. Food was mediocre as well. His attitude left a bad taste in my mouth so for that, I won't be returning. My recommendation for that server is maybe don't be a server if you can't at least fake being nice, which is part of your job. I'll stick with el charro, great portions, food and service. So I'm writing this review from the restroom as I can't get off the toilet. The best thing this place has going for it was the waitress was very nice. First off, there was a hair in our salsa that they brought with the chips. The salsa was free, therefore I can't complain about it... Or can I? I ordered a garlic shrimp dish which was boiled shrimp covered in some thick white sauce... Avoid this. (Think this is why I'm still on the can writing this) Wife ordered the carne asada. The steak was like a thick piece of wet jerky... My kids didn't even finish their tacos. This place is a waste of $50... However, the restroom is clean... I've visited this restaurant with a friend. Our waitress was surly throughout our entire lunch visit. She Could not have cared less did not care that our salsa was merely a red soup. She did replace it with another red unflavored soup. We sat in the bar and she appeared to be the only waitress. Lots of shredded beef on my dish... Overall very poorly seasoned. Drinks are great but as far as Mexican food goes this one disappoints. Doesn't seem authentic at all. Salsa is horrible. My chimichanga was so greasy and the Chile verde is a disgrace to Chile verde. The waitress was so busy flirting with guys at the bar that she never attended to us unless we got her attention. She tried to take my husband's plate before he was even finished.
