Our Strip District Food Tour had a stop at Reyna with some fresh salsa and tortilla chips... and I am absolutely hooked!!! We bought a Peach Bourbon Salsa and a Guava Jarritos! The salsa was so fresh and authentic that the flavor is far superior to any jarred variety. Sold in small plastic tubs, you might think to overlook them, but boy... that even speaks to how good they are. Walking around the shop, you can watch fresh tortillas made on a very authentic and manual process. You can also open the garbage cans of peppers in the back to see the "by pound" varieties of every spicy pepper in existence. The best part... if you linger long enough at a certain aisle or just can't figure out what to get - the employees are right there to help you out with any questions and suggestions on how to make your meal that much better!!

I was frequenting this place (weekly) to buy lunch meat and other breakfast/dinner meats (bacon, chicken, burgers, steaks, etc). But their hours have changed yet again (used to be open at 9am, then that changed to 10am, then that recently changed to 11am) so it's harder for me to go there when they're open. They do sell quality meats and various other groceries like veggies, milk, and bread. I had tried their food when they first started offering burgers and a few other sandwiches and pizza. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed by anything I tried and so I just stuck to buying groceries from them. Then came their collaboration with Pappy's BBQ, which introduced a more robust sandwich menu along with a BBQ menu. Well, one day I was getting lunch meat and heard about a half dozen people ordering various chicken sandwiches. My interest was piqued. A day or so later I had a chicken parm hoagie to-go and wow. It was huge and packed with flavor. I recently ordered another one and I'm here to say, its awesomeness was not a fluke. $15 for a footlong chicken parm sandwich that has plenty of wonderfully seasoned/prepared chicken, a tasty sauce, and sufficient cheese (you can never have enough provolone/mozzarella) - all packed in a tasty mancini's hoagie bun. It's worth every dollar. Chicken parm is my favorite type of sandwich and Elluingers chicken parm hoagie, in my opinion, is waaay better than Goodfellos, and decidedly better than Aviva Brick Oven. That is no small feat in my book. Aviva has been the standard for all things Italian in our house. And while they still own the throne for pizza, they've been dethroned for chicken parm sandwiches. So in conclusion, it might have taken a while, in my opinion, for Elluingers to find their sweet spot in terms of serving hot foods, but I think they may have found it! Stop in, and give them a try! If nothing else, get some quality groceries from a friendly family-owned/run business.

At the Oakmont Farmers Market, I met the owner Robert who operates the business with his wife. He allowed my husband and I to taste-test the two salsas. The Macha salsa had a strong flavor of brown chili peppers, olive oil, garlic, salt, sesame seeds, and peanuts. The Cilantro salsa had a milder taste and contained cilantro, green chili pepper, garlic, olive oil, ginger, and salt. Each jar of salsa weighed 12 ounces and cost $13. I decided to buy one jar of the Cilantro salsa. I think that this flavor tastes better than many salsas from grocery stores and even many salsas from Mexican restaurants. If this business ever sells additional flavors of salsas, I will feel happy to taste them!
