Squid ink pasta, seafood pasta, scallop pasta, margherita pizza
    Karina S.

Am a huge fan of squid ink pasta and this was the best one I've tried yet! The pasta sauce was one of the highlights of my time in Italy. I also loved how there were pieces of squid/seafood mixed in. Also tried the seafood and scallop pastas which felt quite similar other than having different types of seafood, and the margherita pizza, which I was a bit surprised to see no basil on. The restaurant is quite large and has a pretty elegant but cozy feel to it. Service was very quick and started off the meal with bread and breadsticks!

La Piazza lived upto its name big time. First and foremost reservation helps and they accommodated us a bit earlier than the scheduled. The place was buzzing with customers and had a nice vibe and ambience. Amazing customer service is what absolutely defines La Piazza and everything sure can follow. Paolo was spectacular as he got our orders in while Lime got us going with the deserts and coffee at the end and so was Mariza overall. We ordered a side of spinach along with SeaBreem with veggies and Swordfish in citrus sauce. Paolo helped with the deboning of the SeaBreem while Swordfish usually is just like a steak fillet ( no bones to worry about usually). The dishes were tasty and definitely had us craving for more. Lime helped us with an order of Tiramisu and decaf Americano while Paolo grabbed a couple Limone sorbets on the house. The Tiramisu and coffee were perfect pair while the sorbet had a bit of lemony zing to it. Turned out pretty amazing a combo. Would definitely recommend La Piazza and as well an absolute shoutout to Paolo, Lime and Mariza for making our evening special!! PS: They do add a 12% service fee instead of a flat cover charge and some of the dishes tend to be on the pricier side for sure.

Must try when visiting Venice. I had the spaghetti with cheese. So yummy! Service is amazing.

Make reservations. They are busy. Everything was good. They squeeze a lot of tables in so you are sitting very close to other parties. I enjoyed my salmon tartare and scallops.

The staff was wonderful, polite, and surprisingly expedient in their service compared to most European restaurants. They handed out champagne while we were waiting in line for a table, which was a pleasant surprise, and the restaurant itself was a very cute, standard Italian feeling restaurant. Very long line and high ratings, so my hopes were very high. My wife and I ordered one of their prosciutto pizzas and a ravioli dish. I know Venice isn't known for their pizza compared to other Italian cities, but I was slightly disappointed in it to be honest. The pasta, however, was much more delicious.

Came here after seeing over 17k positive reviews online. When we arrived the line was long, and were greeted with champagne while we waited. The vibes were great and had a cute ambiance with lots of outdoor tables. But the food was about as average as it gets. Nothing was super special, nothing to write home about. Was a good meal but wouldn't come back.

Make a reservation in advanced they are hella busy and tables will be decently close together but very well worth it. Plenty of delicious seafood pastas, we ordered both tonnarelli dishes and were very happy with our choice. Excellent service, very good ambiance, and friendly staff. Also and this is important--one of the cleanest bathrooms in the area.

Visited La Piazza with the family recently. Upon arrival, we were told there would be a 25 minute wait. My family didn't mind waiting, so we got in line and stood by an ancient wall. The hostess brought us all glasses of prosecco while we waited. Ten minutes later, we were seated and given menus. We requested some still water because we don't like sparkling water. As an appetizer, we requested scallops, which were delicious. I just wish there were more of them. The bread wasn't good. They serve it so they can check a box that says, 'we serve bread', but that is about the extent of it. Some restaurants in Italy serve great bread, but I've found that most do not. For dinner, I requested lasagna and my son requested spaghetti. The restaurant was full, so it took a while to receive the food. We drank some wine that is made in the region and it was very good. Our server was very busy, so we had to call him any time we wanted something, such as more water, more wine, or the check. My lasagna was delicious and my son't spaghetti was good. Overall, the meal was excellent and we'd visit again. But good luck getting in on a busy night.

I don't think this place lives up to the hype. And be aware there's a 12% service charge when there's barely excellent service provided. Now the food: Risotto was good, pizza kinda sucks and tiramisu was such a let down. After dining here, I unfortunately came down with a stomach flu, but thankfully we had medicine with us. There are definitely many other restaurants worth exploring. I wouldn't recommend this one at all.

Squid Ink Pasta + Pasta Pomodore

Unsure what the hype was but same-day reservations will not work so we tried the next day and it was still a 20min wait to be seated haha Squid Ink Pasta , Pasta Pomodore; the pasta were more al dente so it was difficult to know whether it was fully cooked through Service and ambience was nice But I wouldn't say worth the hype

We were on Venice island and wanted to grab lunch because a lot of attractions were closed till around 2pm. We quickly took a look at what's around us and found La Piazza. They weren't too far away from St. Mark's Basilica so we decided to go there. When we arrived, we walked in and asked for a table for 2. There's seating outside but it was nice inside and way less people walking around. Venice is really busy with foot traffic! They provided menus right away which had multiple languages. Mink decided to look at online photos and I had an idea of what I wanted. We ordered San Daniele Ham and Melon, Spaghettoni with Clams and something off the menu called Risotto al nero di seppia which is basically squid in risotto. I was so happy that the kitchen was able to accommodate this as it's a specialty in Venice. Complimentary bread with breadsticks shortly arrived after ordered and my glass of wine. We are learning that meals are slower here and to enjoy the time with the people you're with so we had a nice recap of the morning. While waiting for our meal, we learned that the servers speak multiple languages when taking orders from the tables around us. Quite impressive! When our food came, it arrived all at the same time. We really enjoy it all but the star dish was the Risotto al nero di seppia. It was the first meal all trip that Mink said she liked my dish more than hers. Before we got our check, we were given complimentary dessert. Great restaurant with awesome customer service!

I have to say I wasn't impressed with much of the "Italian" food we had in Venice. Think what you like, but living in Northern NJ / New York, we have some excellent Italian restaurants that I would put up against any that we visited in Venice. It was 'good'... but overall, did not blow us away. We started with a Cesear salad and decided to share the Risotto with shrimp and burratto. Very good... along with a bottle of white wine. Not sure why Italians don't chill their white wines, but 'when in "Rome"... No A/C, so dress casually. It might look "fancy" but I did see many people in very casual attire.

Fried calamri and ham and melon

We celebrated my daughter's 18 birthday and we had a fabulous time. We just happened onto this place after making reservations at another place where we did not feel welcome at all so we switched and they gave us same day reservations. This place is geared for foreigners. The menu is in 4 languages. The waiter we had spoke English and French (I am a French native). The service was excellent and comparable to the US. Attentive, rapid and friendly. The ambiance was great and we appreciated the decor but I was really noisy. We ordered fried calamari, ham and melon, filet steak and grilled squid with Hugo spritz and a Chardonnay. The portions were generous and the food excellent. The ham was cut really thin and melon was sweet and juicy. The steak was cooked to perfection and the squid tender and grilled just right. They gave us a Tiramisu for her birthday and sang. Again, just like in the US. They do add a 12% service fee vs a flat cover fee and while the prices were not exorbitant, they were on the pricier side. To sum it all up, this is a tourist restaurant but it was delicious and the service was impeccable which for us was refreshing after spending two weeks in Italy.

Once inside they have a couple tables with small window views of any gondolas passing by. We started off with a plate of lightly fried sardines topped with pickled white onions. The fry on the fish was super light and those vinegar-y onions were the perfect pairing. We cleaned that plate. The lasagna was well balanced with the meat, sauce, cheese. The squid ink pasta was chewy/al dente with a subtle touch of seafood flavors giving the cuttlefish. It was very umami but nothing too overbearing. Delicious! The jovial mood with the waiters with big personalities is gone. The menu you can find online is no longer available so you get a very limited menu to choose from--nearly entirely seafood. So if you have anyone in your party that just wants pasta with a red meat sauce or a non seafood lasagne, not available. We were a party of 8. Two people ordered the scallop appetizers. Pretty presentation on shells. 3 tiny scallops in the shells. More like an amuse bouche. Totally disappointing. The linguine with clams as an entree had clams so small you almost needed a magnifying glass to see them. Couldn't taste the clams and annoying to try to eat something so tiny , and just try to eat the pasta with all those tiny shells. The baby shrimp on polenta was actually good. But again the shrimp were like tiny hatchlings tempura battered. Tasted okay except for those that were soggy from the polenta that was very soupy. I wanted the gnocchi with crab which was on the very limited menu but no longer available. The alternative was gnocchi with a sea bass sauce which I chose but didn't like at all. The gnocchi were good but the sauce wasn't at all for me. We had to continue to ask for side dishes for the bread, butter, olive oil, salt and pepper. We will not return. Poor value for your money. Plus there is a cover charge and service included in your bill which was a surprise. Very sad to see our favorite Venetian restaurant decline so much.

So we came here for an early dinner (around 5pm), kitchen is open through! Took a nice table inside by the window. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Staff/owner very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome here. Inside it's a nice, cosy atmosphere. Good selection of wine on the menu as well. For all kinds of budgets. And at the counter a nice display of all kinds of seafood. Lovely place. We've ordered the Crudo di Mare plate and Spaghetti Vongole. And a .375ml bottle of their white house wine, which turned out to be a good pairing with the seafood. Both dishes were excellent! Plenty of Vongole (clams) in the pasta dish, Spaghetti were perfectly cooked. Vongole were nice and fresh and the dish perfectly spiced (not too much, which is good). A real highlight definitely the Crudo di Mare. Two langoustines (so nice and sweet flavour), two red shrimp. scallops, tuna, swordfish, oysters and tuna tartare. All fresh, all tasty. An excellent mix of wonderful fish and seafood. Quality wise along on top with the best ones we've had so far (we love Crudo di Mare). And all is nicely presented. Really made our day, this meal here. After the meal we even got some aperitif on the house. A wonderful place. Feels very relaxed, lots of great items on the menu. And really fair prices, this is a real gem here with great value. And we will definitely be back next time in Venice. Highly recommended!
