One of the best pizzas I've had in Paris.
I was at La Villette over the weekend for a trade show, and our eating options were limited to this or a few food trucks outside the Grande Halle (or the McDonalds across the street, but that wasn't a viable option). After enjoying a beer (and mini concert) at La Petite Halle the night before the show started, we decided to come back the next day for lunch. The pizzas looked too tempting to pass up.
La Petite Halle is a little rough around the edges, with mismatched chairs and plants inside the loft/warehouse type space. The wait staff is quick and attentive but not overly friendly, and during the day when the stage is unoccupied by musicians, they pipe great music in through the speakers. Yes, pigeons do fly in on occasion and perch on these plants; my colleague had a French fry dropped on his shoulder--we're lucky it wasn't anything else! And to echo another review, on Saturday afternoon there were lots of families who let their children run about the restaurant (not cool at all). While these things could be improved (including the bathrooms--they were as clean and charming as bathrooms in a grungy basement bar), I wouldn't change my five-star rating: the pizzas were far too good.
My colleagues and I tried the Diavola (made slightly spicier by drizzling their hot oil on top), Burratina (burrata with cherry tomatoes and fresh roquette), and the quattro formaggi (not my favorite choice but I'm glad I tried it). If the trade show had lasted longer, I would have tried the whole menu (the pasta looked pretty good too)!
When I next crave a good pizza, I may just have to make the 50-minute trek out here. read more
