Unfortunately, their experience was ruined by one of the servers, Ali, a tall, grey-haired man. While serving them, Ali said "chino, chino, cappuccino" while making a derogatory gesture pulling the skin around his eyes. The gesture is extremely offensive and inappropriate in 2026. My parents told him directly that he should not be doing things like that. My mother also told him "we may all look different, but we are all the same," and expressed how much she loves Spain but dislikes being treated this way by people like him. What makes this especially upsetting is that my parents were guests visiting Spain from the US and were looking forward to experiencing the culture and food. Instead, they left with a very sour impression because of the behavior of one employee. The churros and hot chocolate may be well known, but no food is worth being subjected to a racist or derogatory gesture. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses this employee's behavior so other visitors do not have a similar experience.

I'm sitting on the sidewalk patio at La Pecera, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! This spot is a true gem in Madrid, especially if you're a fan of unique desserts. The taiyaki ice cream is as delicious as it is Instagram-worthy--the fish-shaped cone is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the soft-serve flavors are super creamy. I tried [insert your flavor here, e.g., matcha and vanilla swirl] with [your toppings], and it was fantastic. The staff are friendly and patient, happy to explain the different options if you're not sure what to get. The patio seating is great for people-watching and soaking up the city vibes. This review is for the excellent rooftop associated with this restaurant. We stopped by here for a couple of drinks and were left thoroughly impressed! You need to go round the building and pay 4 euros per person to get to the top but the view is completely worth it. The rooftop is nicely done up with lounge-style seating as well as some tables and a small covered dining area. We grabbed a beer and a sangria and spent some time relaxing on the lounge chairs and taking in the view. It's right off Gran Via so you get some really iconic views of Madrid while you enjoy your drinks. There was a server walking around but I personally found it faster to order at the bar. Walked in because they had breakfast and brunch advertised outside their restaurant. After sitting down, we were never asked if we wanted to order any food beyond our coffee. When we asked if brunch was still available at 11AM, the server seemed irritated we wanted to order food. Staff is rude, short and lacks good customer service. Cafe con leche is delicious. The food: Spanish Omelette with Artichokes - Tortilla de patata con alcachofes - a thin layer of egg with thinly sliced, browned potatoes, and lightly fried artichokes. All comes together nicely with slightly different textures. Home-Made Croquettes - Croquetas caseras - 8 enormous croquettes with the crispiest bread crumb exterior. Inside is a lot of creamy/cheesy filling with little bits of cured meat. With the toppings, this is near the top of indulgent vegetables I have had in my lifetime.
