3 words : home made tortillas . Yum yum ! In the San Jose downtown area and getting over a cold. I knew just the right prescription for it ! Reminds me of my abuelas sopa. Caldo de res is my go to! You haaaaave to try it !!! Been coming here for over 6 years and today is just as delicious as ever. Prompt friendly service. Hole in the wall. You will feel at home ! Nothing fancy but if you rather have quality over fancy decor - say no more. This is it! Come early before they run out ! Don't say I didn't tell you so !! Caldo de res - beef with veggies and side order of beans and rice and tortillas. Don't over eat the chips like me, so you can enjoy the soup !

My husband's friend introduced him to this place years ago. He told him it reminds him of his mother's cooking. Today we were in downtown so it was the perfect time to try it. And boy am I glad we did! The restaurant is small, located on the corner, and can easily be missed. But there is ample parking in the back and on the side street. It has been around for awhile and is truly a mom and pop hole in a wall and I say this with excitement because these are my favorite places to eat. Especially walking into a Mexican restaurant and everyone eating is speaking Spanish. My husband ordered the Chile verde super taco and I ordered a cheese enchilada with green sauce with rice and beans (under "light lunch" on the menu). The chips came with 2 salsas, I only tried the less spicy one which was medium and perfect for me. My husband likes spicy and said the hotter one was too hot for him. They refilled our chips without us asking. Our food came out within 5 minutes of us ordering, another plus in my book. The tortillas are made from scratch slightly thicker and chewier than typical store bought ones, yum. My husband's taco was open faced like a tostada and was topped with large slices of avocado and cilantro. My enchilada had tons of cheese and with each bite I had strings of cheese stretching from my plate to my mouth. And the green sauce...some of the best I've ever had, my husband said the same as it was on his taco. We sat at the table next to a cut out window leading into the kitchen. The chef preparing our meal would check in on us asking how our days was and how we liked the food. We told him it was fantastic and he said, "That is music to my ears! You just made all my dreams come true!" The next time you are craving Mexican food, you gotta check this place out and support a local business!

Menudo. Perfect after a night out!

Customer service was amazing. Small place, might wait if it's packed. Food is delicious.

This was a hole in the wall restaurant my friend suggested and I had to try it. I went during lunch on a Friday as the walk was quick from my work. It wasn't super packed for a Friday lunch hour. I got the chicken Enchiladas and they came with a side of rice and beans. The chicken was well flavored however, the choose on top of the enchiladas and beans was sort of stiff and wasn't as gooey as I wanted. It was almost sort of clumpy which I wasn't a huge fan of. However, we do get complimentary chips which was nice of them.

This meal was like a roller coaster ride. Lots of highs and unfortunately a few lows. You walk into this small restaurant and I wasn't sure if I was to seat my self or wait. A lady looked up at me from behind the counter but didn't say anything, so I just found a table and sat down. Chips and salsa were brought out immediately with a menu. 2 red salsas, one was blended the other was more diced ingredients. I ordered a Chavela, It was a modelo beer and lime juice, I think. Salt and Tajin on the rim of the glass. It was served in a giant mug but it was only 3/4 full. Either add more beer and charge more or get a smaller glass? I ordered menudo. It came out piping hot. Fresh made corn tortillas came out still slightly puffed from being just cooked. A small plate of diced onion with cilantro, a lime, a few dried chilies, and a container or oregano. I was really happy at that point. Unfortunately the menudo was under seasoned as was the masa for the corn tortillas. The tripe was cut inconsistently. A couple of large pieces remained. No one checked in on me and no bill was ever given to me. You go up to the counter and the write up a ticket and give you a total, cash only

Great home made food! Hand made tortillas flour and corn! Great home taste dishes shredded chicken is tender and full of flavor. Soups taste almost as good as my father in laws! Place is small and could use a make over to be prettier but its hard to find authentic food this good! This small place is the definition of a "hole in the wall" but in the best way!! Their specialties are NOT to be missed. No dedicated parking but easy to access. There is a bathroom and a bar and highchairs. They do normally take cards but were cash only today Salsa is spicy but soooo flavorful! Fresh oj can't be beat and super friendly

What I like about DTSJ is it offers a lot of authentic food. After I jogged, I came here, the restaurant (inside) is a bit small kinda unnoticeable, (it's a good thing they have a banner) however they do have outdoor dining that can accommodate maybe 10-20 people, too bad I forgot to take a picture of it. The restaurant itself is old but hey it's clean and kinda reminds me of our home back in the Philippines. I ordered beef enchiladas with beef tacos, at first when I saw the enchiladas I thought it's lacking of sauce, but when I tasted it, it didn't need more sauce as it is already flavorful. I didn't have to wait that long to get my order. I will definitely try their other food some other time.

I love love love this place! Best burrito I have had in a while (I have eaten here 5x in the last two weeks). Always clean, the people working wear masks and the fold is cooked fresh. Also, they are consistently good!! I have zero complaints and would highly recommend everything. Also breakfast burritos and fresh squeezed orange juice are perfect.

Lots of take out orders and dine in orders. I ordered 5 super tacos to share with different meats (pollo, carne asada, al pastor, carnitas and chorizo). The super tacos come with cilantro, onions, avocado, sour cream, cheese and pico de gallo. All the tacos come with homemade corn tortillas - you could tell they were fresh. The tacos are big, not small at all. The carne asada, carnitas and pollo was my favorite. Al pastor was good as well, chorizo was not that flavorful for me. However, they also have 3 types of salsas (green, red and a creamy orange) you can use to help add some more flavor if needed. I plan to come back here to try their burritos and tortas as well next time.

The tacos were good and the tortilla they used was quite thick. The enchiladas had good flavor as well, and I would be interested in trying their enchilada with the verde sauce next time. Their prices have steadily risen over time and they have updated their menu prices as well. One thing that elevated this restaurant to 4 stars is their sauce! The red sauce and green sauce recipe is definitely unique compared to other taquerias. The red sauce bottle helps with the flavor tremendously and without it I would have rated this place lower.

We were seated at the booth in the back, which I have always admired, but I now realize it has its disadvantages. It is right by the bathroom, which got a bit of traffic on our visit. That's not such a big deal. The bigger concerns I have are: (1) there is no cushioning for those of us with little of our own and (2) you have to sit up fairly straight and if you want to lean against the wall, you're likely to rub shoulders with the wall hanging. Next time I will ask to be seated someplace else as there were two 2-tops outside. The food is always made from quality ingredients and I'm glad to see they are experimenting with pricing and quantity. I did not see mention of their daily happy hour, which was a feature of last year's visit so that may be gone. However, they now have a five tacos platter which offers relatively good value from the menu prices. This would be good for sharing for two people I think. But that is not what we ordered on this visit. My wife ordered two vegetarian (verduras) tacos and the Blood Orange/Jalapeno mocktail. I ordered the huevos rancheros. Unlike Luna, tortilla chips and salsa are not complimentary. So we let our appetites build. Our food arrived fairly quickly, so that was good and we dug in. My wife had ordered two extra eggs (extra charge) to accompany her tacos, and I think she was glad she did. The vegetarian tacos were not terribly generous for the price. My huevos rancheros came in a neatly stacked pile. My wife thought to ask if they had a hot sauce and they do! So we requested their hottest version. It was a welcome addition to the meal (gratis). A little vinegary, but plenty of heat. The mocktail was quite good. Like Spindrift and some other sparkling waters, it is not sweetened, but it had a good amount of strained blood orange juice, and you could taste the fresh jalapeño. I wonder if they have tried adding mint to this as I think it would be welcome. Maybe next time I will ask if they can experiment with me by adding some mint.

Once we were served we were never checked up on until the end when we had to flag them down to get the check. I don't think we'll be coming back.

This made it so seamless to reserve here. Our group got there at opening and our table was ready and most of the group was already seated when we got there. Drink orders were flowing as the waitress caught up to me and I got a cafe de olla. We browsed the menu and the more I looked the harder it was to pick one thing. I ended up choosing chilaquiles with a bandera sauce and carne asada as the added protein. The rest of the table got all different types of dishes from carne en su jugo to birria to omelettes. While we enjoyed each other's company sipping on our cafecito I enjoyed the ambiance of the space. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Since it was opening time it wasn't as loud as I imagine it can get in there. The sun did shine on the faces of those facing the windows which was not enjoyable for them. There was no way to cover the sun either since it was coming in from the top windows with no shade. My food came out along with the rest of the plates and we went right in to enjoy them. My favorite chilaquiles was covered in the white sauce. The red and green were good but the white sauce was my favorite. The carne was cooked well but I could taste it wasn't marinated or lacked flavor. I didn't get a knife to cut the meat so it was very difficult to enjoy a piece with my chilaquiles. It was hard to cut with a butter knife. I thought it would be a piece of steak but it was a piece of carne asada. Eggs were scrambled and cooked well. The whole plate was filling, had flavor, and was a good portion. The cafe de olla had a good flavor but a tad sweet for my preference. The space in here is a vibe. A fun place to enjoy large gatherings. I came for breakfast but will update when I come back to visit for dinner. Bathrooms are clean. Staff was welcoming and efficient in taking care of our group. Hospitality was a 10/10. Parking in the am was a breeze but at prime time I can see it being a complete nightmare so plan accordingly. I enjoyed my visit and will come back to check out the dinner menu.

Sip Happens... and So Does a Solid Taco Night…read more My husband, daughter, and I were in the mood to shake things up with margaritas somewhere new, and our daughter pointed us toward Copita Tequileria y Comida. As we cruised by looking for parking, it was clear we had picked a lively spot--buzzing energy everywhere: inside, outside, and even upstairs. We were quickly seated indoors, though on such a beautiful day we assumed we'd be offered outdoor seating. No big deal--we asked, and they happily moved us to a shaded table with plenty of space. Much better. Drinks were first on the agenda: margaritas and a michelada, all refreshing and exactly what we were hoping for. Our server, Michelle, was friendly, attentive, and even shared some helpful tips about perks with our American Express Platinum Card--a nice, unexpected touch. We kicked things off with queso fundido, though a brief mix-up brought us chips and guacamole from another table first. Once we pointed it out, it was quickly handled--but honestly, it looked so good we ended up ordering it anyway. No regrets there--it definitely hit the spot. We hadn't planned on a full dinner, so we went with lighter bites. The tuna tostadas and halibut ceviche were a hit--fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. I went with the tortilla soup, which was good and nicely presented... but didn't quite wow me. I've been on a bit of a tortilla soup tour lately, and this one leaned a little heavy on the tortillas (soaking up too much broth) and had more zucchini than I expected. That said, major points for serving it piping hot--something a lot of places miss--and the avocado was a great addition. One thing worth noting: I didn't catch it until later, but there's a 4% living wage surcharge added to the bill--and it's taxed. That caught me off guard, and I'm still not entirely sure how that works in California. Overall, a fun, energetic spot with great drinks, tasty bites, and solid service. Not perfect, but definitely good enough to come back for another round.

We ordered the deliciously filling breakfast bowl and swapped the eggs for rice. The banana chocolate smoothie was rich, refreshing, and honestly was my dessert. We also tried the sweet potato waffle, the steak bowl, and 2 cocktails: the Cool as a Cucumber and the Blue Oaxacan Skies. Every single item hit the mark Left full as a tick! If you're looking for a spot that delivers great food, great drinks, and great vibes, you found it!! Can't wait to come back!

Our cups especially. They mentioned they are running out of cups, but that isn't an excuse to give out water to the table with every cup being stained with Tajin. - Everything on the sharing grill was a bit bland. - Restrooms are terrible. There are only two single stalls and the line to wait is in the way of the workers, so we had to move back and forth to let them through.

Why have I just tried this Mexican restaurant?! I've always seen their food truck a few years back…read morebefore they began to gain enough finances for brick and mortar store fronts! Yay for mom and pop eats :) Well, I was introduced to this place by my best friend, but I never carried cash to go, so I never tried it until another friend of mine mentioned the Blossom Hill location and them accepting credit card payment! (Yay, but let's not get carried away). I came on a Tuesday evening with friends and saw the place packed! Thats always a good sign~ We each ordered an individual dish to eat and chat. I was intrigued by the burrito bowl and worried it may be small. Jokes on me, it was way more than enough! Don't let the size of the bowl trick you into thinking it's not enough. The avocado was nice and perfectly ripe, the crema sauce drizzle was not overwhelmingly added onto the ball, and the salsa had a nice acid and tomatoey compliment to the beans, meat, shredded lettuce, rice, and cheese! I think this place is pretty solid for the price point and quality. They also have a free for all sauce bar too which is nice! Everything is so spicy, except for the green salsa lol. Servers seemed okay. They didn't really check on us, but it feels like a service yourself kind of place. You grab your own waters, condiments, and sauce here. If you want their chunky mango salsa, you have to flag a server down! However, 1 star is knocked off for the credit card charge, which I'm not even sure what the percentage is. I didn't see a sign at the register or perhaps I didn't look hard enough. I think this should be mentioned on the door and possibly their menu (if it isn't already). Can someone confirm if the credit card charge is 3%? Even my receipt wasn't clearly mentioning the percentage--just the fact that there's a credit card processing fee.

There is a QR code (see photo) Cali-taco: it's a good size, fries are crispy. We recommend this one. Would get it again. Quesabirria: 2.5/5 - it was just ok. Wasn't as flavorful as I've had before Super burrito: 3.9/5 - it's a hefty size. Very filling. I had to eat half otherwise I'd go into full nap mode after. I'd recommend it for any burrito lover and someone who can eat a lot.
