What a great find we happened upon today for lunch! They have a small outside bar that was VERY well stocked with premium spirits and manned by Francisco who provided excellent service. We went here primarily because they accept credit cards, something that has become a rarity on the island, even though they charge 5%, it was well worth it. Francisco made us a couple of Red Sangrias to start which were done very well, not too sweet and with a bit of spice. We ordered the classic nachos which were way more than we expected and quite enjoyable. The chef was working on a new Caprese appetizer and sent an order out for us to try and it was outstanding, something I would definitely order. I had the Chicken Tacos which came with a spicy Salsa Verde and sour cream...tasty. My wife had the Mac & Cheese with Chicken which was outstanding with a nice garlic cream sauce. Very friendly staff serving food like your abuela would make with love. It was scorching hot and humid today but cold, reasonably priced beers and the incredible sauces made us forget for a while. Yum! What a great place to grab a bite to eat after an exhausting walk through Mercado 28. My sister and I each had two tacos with a side of rice and beans. We were full after visiting here! We were hoping that there were free chips and salsa (something we have just been used to living in the US) and this place came through for us! Things to know about this place. It is not fancy. We stopped in on our way to the airport for breakfast. The huevos rancheros were delicious with a nice mild red sauce and flavorful refried beans. The cinnamon coffee was too sweet for our liking but our excellent server switched it to Americano for us. I recommend juice - as they had a large variety that seemed fresh squeezed. read more

This is 100% quality food and has such a home style taste. 10/10 for the chilaquiles verdes de pollo and their complete combo comes with an amazing sopa de tortilla, rice & agua de jamaica. The portion of the chilaquiles was very generous that I could barely finish it but I'm sure most won't have an issue once they try it. Left with a full belly and a happy heart. We walked from Dubai casino to Chichen Itza Av in hopes of eating in a local pizzeria I found on Yelp, but when we arrived they were closed. So as we walked past Market Square we spotted this quaint covered open air patio taqueria. While there was a language barrier the staff was very helpful and went out of their way to answer our questions concerning the different types of taco shells on the menu. Sheri ordered two pollo con queso tacos and I order 3 chorizo con queso tacos. I forgot to tell our waiter I wanted queso on my tacos, but he quickly fixed the problem. Condiments were laid out on the table, and the waiter brought cubed boiled buttered potatoes and roasted onions and plabano peppers. We also ordered two Coca-cola ligjhts (served in a glass bottle). The food was delicious. I really liked that they service the side dishes family style. All total our tab / check was $155 pesos. Also they have free Wi-Fi, you just need to ask for the password. The food here is so good! We got a gringa (which is a quesadilla) and tacos. You can't go wrong! Agua de Jamaica was on point. We were too hungry and devour our food so we didn't get a picture haha, only of our guacamole. If you decide to go after 6 pm make sure you bring mosquito repellent. Came here today specifically for tacos as the name indicates they have them but unfortunately they only sell tacos after 6pm :( I was definitely disappointed about that. With that said, this place is SUPER cheap. They give you a lot of food for very little price and the taste is solid so I can't complain too much. Wanted to get away from the market and found this place on yelp. Service was good. A guy who knew English was called from the back to help us. Lunch menu here are set menus where you have a choice of soup, "main entree"( rice or vegetables) and a dish ( chicken, etc.). The best part of this place was the watermelon water. The food was bland. We ordered fish tacos but instead got potato toquitos. disclaimer: probably because of a language barrier that we didn't get the food we expected. This place is my family's favorite breakfast spot. We have come at least once a week for the past two months. We usually get the same things but I have been trying to branch out. First off the cafe de olla is spectacular. It's a little too sweet but I enjoy it nonetheless. You have to try the aguas especially the melon. It is blended to order and is so refreshing. For breakfast my son loves the chilaquiles verde con asada. I'm not a fan of the rojo salsa but my husband loves it. Another great try is the tacos dorados, they come in 3s and are served like flautas with crema, queso fresco, and lettuce. My favorite are the cheese ones but you can mix and match whichever filling you desire. The empanadas are HUGE! I recommend the chicharron ones, they are soft and the chicharron has meat on it. I also really love the gorditas. I had two chicharron (as you can tell I love that lol) and it was filling. The best thing about this place is the price. We never spend more than 300 pesos including tip and always leave full and satisfied. I would not hesitate to recommend them if you're looking for great breakfast. read more

After a long day exploring downtown Cancun and how the locals live and trade, after being hustled a couple of times in the Mercado, we wanted to find something local (and cheap) to eat. We stumbled across La Patrona and were immediately attracted to it mainly due to it's bubblegum pink interiors and warm environment. Despite not being Spanish speakers and arriving at the off-peak time, we were welcomed very warmly! All the workers were female with cute pink aprons and the one in charge tried to explain us the menu in Spanish, sign language and broken English - when there is a will, there is a way! she wanted to explain and we were starving!!! We both ordered some vegetarian quesedilla-like dishes and were very happy with the presentation and authenticity. After eating, the woman in charge made sure that we were satisfied and asked us if we required any assistance. As we were a little lost, she helped us find our way back to the bus stop. This warm service of hers and her genuine personality really touched us and we can never forget our experiences here - especially after undergoing the hectic market shopping and coming across many conmen!
