You get your orders as the food is done.. So I made about 4 trips to the window. First time coming to a restaurant where you pick your seafood and they cook them for you.. Over all the food was very fresh. Mussels are cooked with white wine, octopus steamed so i was told. Prawns and langoustine grilled I think. Over all food was pretty good. Price is pretty reasonable. I wouldn't say best seafood I've ever had but it was good and lots of food for price you pay.. Mussel were pretty good but not as good as ones I've had in Naples. You better know what you want.. We are so lucky to stumble upon La Paradeta, a precious seafood market two blocks from Sagrada Familia. Varieties of seafood are ready to be cooked the way you wanted. Two of us picked 5 types of seafood, a salad and a fish soup. We tried the sangria as our drinks. Everything is beyond fantastic! We would highly recommend this seafood gem to all our friends. Here are a few tips for the first timers: 1) The workers at the order area don't understand English well. We pointed at the seafood for ordering. 2) Recommended to have the fish soup over mixed salad as an appetizer. The fish soup is made with lots of fish and ginger; and it carries so much flavor. 3) The mussels are a must-have and are so cheap (Under 10 Euros for huge portions). It's recommended to prepare in two ways: white wine and tomato sauce 4) The La Paradeta sauce (I e. A green basil sauce) goes very well with shrimps and razor clams. 5) The fried calamari was so delicious and perfectly paired with drizzles of lemon juice. Yet, it's so expensive (24 Euros for a very small portion). It doesn't feel as worth it as compared to something like lobsters (29 Euros/single lobster). 6) I noticed many people ordered a bottle of wine instead of Sangria. This was our best meal of our two week trip! The fish, the soup, the oysters, the squid, mussels... Each was better than the last. You order at the counter pick out what you want, they weight it out and then they call your number as items are done so our oysters were out quick, fish took the longest of course to cook, got some bread, sangria, beer... This meal was amazing. We tried everything, couldn't walk or breath, and still spend under $100 for the freshest, amazing cooked to perfection, seafood. It is walking distance from Sagrada Familia. We had a 3pm reservation. The line never stopped the whole time we were there. I want to go back to Barcelona just to eat here! Really really fresh seafood! We got the mussels, gambo, octopus, scallops, and salad. All of it was delicious, big servings. I left with a full stomach and happy heart. Highly recommend the scallops and octopus!! Around 1/3 of the mussels were empty, guessing its because they fell out during the cooking process. We went on a Friday at around 1:30PM and there were only 2 groups in front of us in line. We first chose the seafood and amounts that we wanted from the counter, and then they cooked everything for us. There were two dishes where we had a choice in how it was cooked: squid grilled or fried (I.e. calamari), and mussels steamed or with tomato sauce. We just went with what they recommended (grilled, tomato sauce). Everything was delicious and very fresh. My favorite was the shrimp, which had a nice sweetness. This place was one of our best food decisions in Barcelona. Here, there are tons of fresh (and often live) seafood that you can purchase by the gram/kilogram. And the restaurants cooks it for you! This includes shrimp, squid, and lobster (amongst tons of other choices). They also have wine- so you get good food and sips. We had a feast! All at great prices. Ironically, we met someone from our hometown while here (she could hear our southern accents through our broken Spanish, and asked for help placing her order, as she spoke no Spanish). You shop the seafood on ice, get the ticket number. pay at the cashier, and grab a seat and wait for your number to be called. It's that easy! If you're a seafood lover, this is the place to go. The seafood doesn't get any fresher than this unless you are on a boat cooking as you catch the seafood. I just love how simple the whole concept is. Pick the quantity and type of seafood that you see, how you want it to be prepared, pay and wait for your food. We picked out a bunch - calamar, razor clams, octopus, prawns, flounder, little necks, and a salad to balance it out. We had everything grilled and drizzled with olive oil-garlic- parsley sauce. What an experience! I'm not a big food of seafood- so this was a bit scary for me. However, this place is a well oiled machine. They know exactly what they are doing. Food was fast and delicious. Worth the wait- we even waited in the rain! It was a short walk from The Sagrada Familia and but you definitely need to set aside some time. We were probably there almost two hours. TRY THE RAZOR CLAMS! I was pleasantly surprised and they made for a great boomerang video! My favorite dish was the lobster and we had a delicious bottle of wine at a great price! How can you go wrong?! This place is great for seafood lovers and safe for those of us who aren't as big of fans. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because I told the cashier we wanted bread. She rang us up, and then our tray had no bread. We asked her where the bread was, she rolled her eyes and said we didn't order bread. I understand we are tourist- but I speak fluent Spanish. I know you understood me, you just forgot, and that's ok! But don't roll your eyes at ME! And then they asked if we still wanted the bread- umm, duh! One word: FRESH. The seafood here is superior to any I had in Barcelona...or Spain for that matter. As we walked into the restaurant we were a bit confused on how things worked in there. The cashier was very helpful and was patient with us as we chose our fresh seafood. You can have it cooked in different ways and even have some of it raw if you like. Everything we had was delicious. My one complaint is the sides they had were quite limited...you can choose between a salad, a soup, and bread. This place could really catapult to a whole new level if they added rice, steamed veggies, and even french fries to their side dish repertoire. It was awesome having a bunch of seafood though. I came here after visiting La Sagrada Familia, and this place was delicious!!! There was a line out the door when I went, but it started clearing up by the time I left. You basically go in, and choose which seafood items you want, and then they grab them and weigh them, and cook them for you! And the cooking is exquisite! My favorite is the razor clams, the salsa on top was excellent, and the way they grilled it really brought out all the flavors and great textures from the razor clams. If I had known how good they were going to be I'd have ordered mostly those! The shrimp was also very good, also grilled in the same way the razor clams were, and tasted excellent. The mussels were really cheap! If you're on a budget, I would recommend loading up on these because they were affordable, while also giving you a chance to taste the tomato sauce they cook the seafood in. Be sure to get some bread for dipping! And they also ask you about sauce at the end, if you ordered any fried food, I think thats what those are for, since I got some but didn't really need it with what I ordered. read more

This will be one of the highlights of our family vacation. I'll sound like a total snob that I grew up digging Washington State razor clams, fishing and crawfishing the Sacramento Delta, digging and eating gaper clam sashimi and clam strips from Tomales Bay, tasting every clam chowder from Hog Island to Splash Cafe to Union Oyster House (the best), eaten fresh dungeness on the deck of my buddy's boat steamed in sea water, and being a spearo and diving for red abalone on our beautiful California North Coast. I live for seafood and La Paradeta delivered. This place is awesome. The razor clams' (European skinny ones) feet were still moving and trying to dig somewhere, the lobsters were staring back and crawling, and the counter is covered with fantastic fresh seafood like baby tako and squid, scallops, monk fish, all sorts of clams and mussels, stone crab, shrimp and langostinos, snails and whelks, tuna, etc. Your fish monger will ask how many are at your table and just pick what you'd like. If there are options for cooking she will ask which way you'd like it cooked. Your fish is priced by kg, you're given a number and off it goes quickly to the kitchen. Pair up with an ice cold Estrella and enjoy bread and sides and they will call you up by number in Spanish and English as each dish is ready FRESH from the kitchen. Everything was delicious. Scallops (on the shell!). And so much more. You can opt to broil them or fry them. Muscles in soup - was alright, nothing super special, but very seafood-y Octopus - broiled and chopped up in pieces. It was good, but could've used some more flavor. Texture was good though! Shrimp - broiled. Was pretty good. They don't peel it beforehand though, in case you hate doing that yourself. They have a good selection of everything so there's definitely something for everyone..but my recommendation is to be adventurous and pick things that you don't normally see! You have to first order then you take your seat. Keep your receipt with you because they will call you to get your food as they cook. Visited with my SO around 9:30PM on a Saturday night and the line wasn't very long, there was just a group of 4 girls ahead of us. Besides that the girls took way too long to pick their seafood and order (took like 15 minutes since they each ordered individually and each spent a lot of time to decide that the servers were getting annoyed too), the ordering process was very easy. We were much more efficient when it came to our time to order. Got the following for 63 euros. All the food was very good and came out fast. Brilliant. Razor clams - Best grilled razor clams I have ever had in my entire life. It wasn't overcooked, it was fresh as hell and just so damn good. Clams - They ask you if you want it with tomato sauce or grilled, pick the tomato sauce, you won't be disappointed. Calamari - This was the only thing we had fried and we were so glad we had it this way. Batter was light, fragrant and on point - nothing that upsets the stomach, great! Baby octopus - These little suckers are divine when grilled and eaten with a splash of lemon juice. Cuttlefish - Again, got these bad boys grilled and it was super fresh with lemon juice. Giant prawns - Wow! These were the size of half of my face, no joke - super juicy. Service was friendly and bathrooms were clean. What a find this restaurant was. Something totally different to any we have been to before and, more to the point, very reasonable pricing for the meal we had. It works on a different principle to anything else. No booking, no reservation. If a table is available, you are in. So I advise you arrive just before opening time. After that, well, I did warn you. As you enter you are faced with a large counter of ice covered in every seafood you could imagine. You choose by pointing out the delicacies that you want. OK, another warning, you can easily over indulge and find you can't eat it all. Once your choice had been made you are asked how you want it cooked. There are limitations on this but I am sure you will be happy with the outcome. Next, move along the counter as your choice is sent to the kitchen. The next counter for bread, salad etc etc and, more to the point, wine and beer. Again, no take-on, prices are extremely reasonable. Given cutlery, napkins, many napkins because you will need them. Eating seafood can be messy. Once this is done and, of course, you have paid you find a table. Tables are 'au naturelle', that is no tablecloth just a laminated table. Easier to clean off once the messy diners have left. Have a few drinks as you wait. After a short while your number is called. Hope you understand Spanish because most of the girls don't speak any other language (why should they?). You pick up your food from the window. Trust me, it is worth the wait. Please remember, when finished take your empty plates etc to the other window for washing up. That's how this restaurant works and, IT WORKS WELL. I come from Taiwan, an island where good seafood is plentiful and cheap, and we found this restaurant to be very good! We lined up about 10 minutes before they opened at 13:00, and even then, we had to wait 30 minutes to get to our turn to order. (This was just as well, since we wanted to figure out what to get.) You come here for fresh seafood expertly cooked, and for nothing else: not exceptional service nor ambience or anything. They're not mean or anything, but you are on an assembly line and you're there because you want the food. You order at the front, by a combination of words and finger pointing (pick the seafood, pick the method of cooking), then move along to the bread/drinks/cashier, then find yourself a seat (can be done in parallel), then when your order number is called, pick up at the first window. The first window also packs up any leftovers you need to have boxed to take home. The second window is for dirty dishes. We had fried calamari, raw oysters, cocktail shrimp, and then clams and razor clams a la plancha (grilled then drizzled with butter garlic salt parsley mixture). Was enough for the two of us. The calamari is a bit much for two people: it's tasty, but a pretty big portion. The clams and razor clams were clearly fresh, but perhaps TOO fresh: they didn't expel the sand and grit that you're supposed to do for a few hours before cooking, so guests don't bite into clams with sand/grit! Out of a big plate of these shelled seafood, I only managed to have one without the annoying "crunch". That said, it happens to anyone who's served clams at home before, but I was disappointed in this (hopefully one-off) error. Would I come back? Yup. I have to admit, I am not the biggest seafood person. Although I can certainly appreciate some fish, shrimp lobster, I never was a huge fan. Seafood I've had in America, in my opinion,​ had a tendency to be expensive, not fresh, overcooked and greasy. This restaurant made me truly appreciate FRESH seafood, it's affordable, friendly. You line up and choose from a category of fresh seafood that is cooked after you order. For some reason, the order comes fast and the meal is perfectly cooked and it's affordable in a setting not unlike that of a school's cafeteria. I definitely recommend everything there, from the calamari to the lobster. You get to choose your food, come in EARLY, actually if possible be there 30 min before it opens so you are first in line because the line starts quickly. This place is great. We got here 10 mins before it opened. The seafood handler attendant was very helpful in gauging how much to food we needed. She didn't up sell us. Yes, we look like the typical asians who would stand in line for good seafood. But, we do not cut the line or spit on the streets. I was gonna knock out this these young Chinese couple who kept elbowing their way to see the seafood counter before the place was open. We shared the 1 large pulpo (octopus), mussels with marinara, grilled razor clams, 3 grilled langousines, a seafood soup, and 1 roll. Do yourself a favor and get a glass of wine for 2.4 € or a beer for 1.8€. A bottle water is 1.8€ ..... And say yest to the salsa verde for your grilled razor clams and shrimps. Seafood heaven. We had just arrived in Barcelona from Paris (short flight) and I was starving. After running a quick Yelp search, found this place, because it was a short walk away from our hotel and I love seafood (a lot). When you first walk-in, there's an informal line around the seafood counter - we lucked out because we showed up close to their 1pm opening and it was a Sunday, so we didn't have to wait very long. You pretty much just tell them how many people you're feeding (so they can select the quantity) and how you want each seafood choice cooked. I ordered the razor clams, the shrimp (the colossal sized ones), scallops, squid, salad, octopus, bread and a dipping sauce. Other than the squid (which I ordered fried), everything came grilled. The razor clams are the best things I have ever eaten (seafood wise) in my life. In fact, I wish I had skipped the scallops (which were just ok) and had more of the clams. HEAVEN. The shrimp was also a standout item, because it was insanely fresh and mouthwatering. The calamari was also sheer perfection. You put your order in with the staff in front of the seafood, then you're ushered to the "bar" and bread next. Warning: The bread is not complimentary, so you'll end up paying extra (but it's worth it!). I also wish I had a better sense of the variety of sauces (she spoke so quickly). The one I picked was the house sauce and it went really well with my calamari. I ordered a soda, and my other half ordered a beer (which simply comes in small, medium and large sizes). Find a seat (keep your belongings safe), and then wait for them to call your number -- save that receipt! Your food will be prepared in several waves - depending on how much you ordered, and how larger your party is. Was recently in Barcelona for a week with friends. This was recommended by family - and when I turned to trusty Yelp, it was highly rated here as well. So of course we had to try it for ourselves. And because of the convenient location (it was 20 min walk from our apartment - and few minutes away from Sagrada Familia), we went twice! ATMOSPHERE: Very casual. This particular location was very spacious. Lots of tables and chairs which staff moves around to accommodate groups of all sizes. Which is rare because most restaurants in this city are TINY. At the door you enter into a market-like space with live/raw seafood laid out before you. You tell them your group size and start pointing at the specific things you want & how you want it cooked. SERVICE: As you order, the servers are very professional. Both times we were there, the staff made good recommendation each item, how best to cook them and portion sizes. It is over the counter style, so you pick up your food from a window; and when finished your meal - you're asked to bus your own dishes to another window. Not a big deal. This place doesn't present itself as anything frou frou. The system works. PRICE: Very reasonable for the portions you get. Cannot get that here in Toronto. Not for fresh and LOCAL seafood. Totally worth it. Did I mention we came here TWICE in one week? FOOD: They have a good selection of seafood. Some of everything: fish, crustaceans, cephalopods and molluscs. They refill as stock gets low. Once you order seafood, you go pay at the cash - at which point you select sauces (cost per each), request bread (cost per; worth to get 1 to share between 2 people - good for sopping up sauce!) and drinks (neatly labelled behind the bar with cost per bottle). Highlights were: 1. RAZOR CLAMS - steamed; Never tried these before. They were THE BEST ("navalles/navajos" in Catalan) 2. MONKFISH - grilled; Very meaty 3. COCKLES & CLAMS - steamed; Delish! 4. BABY SQUID - fried; delicious & big portions (doesn't look like it when you first order, but it's a generous helping!) 5. Shrimp & Langoustines - steamed; Not my fave. but still tasty and enjoyable. 6. Soup - clear seafood broth with mussels; The broth was okay. A tad salty for me. Mussels were good though! re: TUNA - grilled; Ask for rare (my friend ordered it "medium" and none of us enjoyed it) Definitely recommend this place. It seems like the closer a restaurant is to a tourist attraction, the worse it is. It's like they don't even try anymore. They have no will to be passionate. It's like they are wallowing in money, so why bother making the food taste good? La Paradeta is not that. It is the opposite of that. Their premise is simple. Super fresh seafood, cooked perfectly and simply. That is it. We came here before our allotted time to go into Sagrada Familia. We got here 10 mins before before they opened and the line had already formed. We were a little worried. But looking at all of the asians in the line, we knew it must be good. Asians flock to the good stuff. Especially when it comes to seafood. The line took a bit to get through, but not too bad maybe 25 minutes. A woman tried to cut in front of me, but I shimmied my way in front of her. I can't take no sh*t, I got me some amazing architectural splendor do look at in 45 minutes! When I looked at the menu I was stressing. In my mind I was thinking: How many kg should I get of something? I have no idea how much a kg is. God, I'm a stupid American. I'm going to look like such a stupid American. Shouldn't I know this stuff? The answer is no, no you shouldn't know this stuff. And this is why once you get to the front, the attendant behind all of the seafood helps you with all of it. You tell them how many in your party and what you want and she helps to figure out how much of things you should get. So yeah, if you didn't take a college course on seafood ratio conversions to number of people in your party - in kilograms... do not fret. They will help you. We got the razor clams, the prawns, mussels, and the seafood soup. And of course cervezas. You pay and they give you a number and wait for your food. They cook it their way (there's no choice, but believe me, it is goooood, so don't worry about it.) The food came out one by one over a 20 minute time period, which gave us about 25 minutes to eat. We ate fast, but it was not hard to do. Everything was amazing. The razor clams and prawns were grilled and I believe the mussels were boiled or steamed. But everything was cooked perfectly. More perfectly than I've ever had seafood before. Seriously Americans DO NOT KNOW HOW TO COOK SEAFOOD. Yes, I am putting it in caps because I want to yell it. It is so frustrating because almost every placed in Barcelona where I've eaten seafood, they cook it perfectly, so why can't Americans do it? Why??? The mussels were so soft. It just melted in your mouth. And everything was so fresh beyond belief. The seafood soup was an amazing broth with fiduea (small noodles). Super simple - something mostly appreciated by europeans and asians. I love clam chowder like the next yankee girl, but come on, there is something to appreciate about a simple but flavorful broth. Anyhow, this place makes my must-go list and would definitely come back and highly recommend. Don't let the proximity to Sagrada Familia fool you. And don't let the line of asians intimidate you. (Because asians are so intimidating... especially ones that travel to Spain. :P) Get in that line... because you will not regret it. read more

2nd time in Barcelona, had to come back to this seafood joint again! Mind blowing fresh seafood and my fav dish is grilled gambas with house sauce as always! It is really FINGER LICKING GOOD! Fried calamari is my second fav dish here. Crispy and simple. Sprinkle some lemon juice on top to wash out the oiliness. It is a must order dish for me here as well! I tired the crab this time. It was a juicy fat crab with tons of mustard in it. If you are a crab eater than you will get so much meat out of it. It is a small battle since they only crack the 2 big craws for you. Also tried the grilled scallops! Ooooooo so yummmmy!! I could take the ocean!!! Soooo fresh! La Paradeta is truly a great place to pick your own fresh seafood in many varieties without breaking a bank! Highly recommended and will go back again and again! read more

It was quite intimidating standing in line thinking what to order. I don't speak Spanish and felt overwhelmed with the choices in front of me. Good thing they speak English. Phew! The seafood was fresh and made to order quick. The prices were very affordable. Because most of them were still alive when they were weighed, it was delicious. They served the buns with sauce of your choice. We picked romesco and it was really good. Our total bill was $35 for 3 with drinks. What we had - 1 kg of mussels, 2 oysters, 4 prawns, 2 beers, 2 buns and 1 cuttlefish. Although it was satisfying, I wished I'd ordered more.
