This was a stop on a taco tour I did and it was such a neat restaurant! Greeted with the beautiful looming tree at the entrance it's hard not to be intrigued as to what lays beyond. They have plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor as well as a bar you can sit at. The decor is eclectic and really cool. The bathroom has a shower head and foot washing station for those coming straight from the beach. We tried their pork belly tacos which were very delicious. My wife and I have visited Nuevo Vallarta several times but have ever eaten at La Negra before. Based on the positive reviews from Yelp, we thought we've give it a try. It was outstanding! The staff service was A+, attentive and did not rush us. We had an upstairs table, which was outside, with beautiful plants and a large tree overlooking the patio. We started first with the guacamole, which was seasoned just right, it was so fresh. We also had the appetizer Panela, which was a melted local cheese seasoned with garlic and oregano. OMG, if you visit you MUST try this. For entrees, I went with the Ahi Tuna burger, and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the Ahi tuna ceviche - it was so delicate and fresh - she loved it! Wow!! What a place. We made reservations here, as it gets very packed. It's absolutely beautiful. We showed before our reservation, but were able to sit outside and enjoy some drinks. Definitely a wonderful ambiance! We sat upstairs, and it's just stunning with all the greenery. Service was A+. All the individuals were interacted with spoke English well. Drinks were AMAZING. I had mocktails and cocktails, and nothing disappointed. We ordered so much food and were not disappointed with ANYTHING we ordered. We got hummus, pizza, queso, fries, octopus, tacos... and don't forget about the dessert!! We got essentially one of everything and it was absolutely by far, our favorite meal in Mexico. This little gem was literally around the corner from our hotel. As we walked up, the first thing we noticed was a huge tree covering the sidewalk but once there the leaves make for a grand entrance to the front of the restaurant. The decor is simple, vibrant and surrounded by greenery. It's isn't a little taco place with a few seats. It is a pretty spacious place with a second floor and an extended raised patio located on the street. The staff is very friendly (Mexican hospitality is the best). Our server Sara, was super sweet and made us feel comfortable. The staff spoke both spanish and english. They offered us menus in either language. We began by ordering a guacamole which came with a side of tostadas. DELICIOUS. Not traditional with tomato onion and cilantro. No, this one has cucumber red onion some herb and have cherry tomatoes on top. We also ordered two pork belly tacos and a ceviche. The pork belly tacos were simple but yet so tasty. The ceviche was a fusion of soy sauce, lime, red onion, chunks of tuna over two papa and chorizo tacos with a half sliced of avocado on top. This was the most delicious ceviche I've had in a long time. There tacos seem like they don't belong in this dish right? But don't fool yourselves the soy citrus sauce gave the tacos the best flavor! My mouth is watering as I'm writing this review. :) We ordered mocktails for our dinner that were tasty but nothing to rave over. Cute restaurant in a very surprising neighborhood. Much bigger than it looks, we say upstairs in an open air patio that feels like you're sitting in a tree house, great music and service. We ordered the pizza special with fish to share and big boss ceviche and the Mahi Mahi, catch of the day. The pizza had arugula, goat cheese and tuna carpaccio topped with arugula and hot chili oil of course! The thin crust was just the right amount of carb. The ceviche equally impressive comes with two bean filled tacos covered with generous amount of tuna and topped with half an avocado, a meal on its own! Slightly spicy with the heat of Serrano peppers, lime juice and cilantro. Super fresh. Last but not least grilled mahi Mahi over thinly sliced potatoes and asparagus. First time at this hidden gem! Just off the main drag in Bucerias is La Negra. Great vibe. Amazing food and top notch service. Even brought us drinks on the patio while we waited for our spot to open up. Hector is mucho friendly! Try the Panela with mushrooms but get it to share! I had the fillet and my wife had the mahi mahi, both were high quality. Mix in a fine cocktail menu, nice light groove sounds, outdoor seating and reasonable prices and you can understand the wait time if you don't have a reso. Some sidewalk seating is a nice touch. Worth the wait! Only negative for me is the cocktail napkins on the table which are fine for the lunch crowd but should be replaced for what's a pretty fine dinner experience. Food was not bad but the service was horrendous. I had my daughter with me who is autistic and obsessed with water bottles. After they told her she caoukdnt have a water bottle on her, they took her water bottle and then never offered refills on water the rest of evening until we asked for refills. I understand rules are rules but at least offer refills on water since we can't bring in a water bottle from outside. They also accidentally brought us someone else's potatoes wedges almost as soon as we sat down. We thought it was a complimentary thing but soon found out it was not. No problem paying for a potatoe but sheesh, take some accountability. Music and atmosphere was great, it was juat difficult to enjoy with a bad taste in my mouth from the rest of the experience. We found this place as we walked about one day and we saw that people had made reservations and it seemed like a great place to have a drink and some food. So I made reservations and away we went. The place is nice and chill, good vibe but that was it. First, it is outdoors, and I get it as we are near the ocean, but the amount of flies hovering over our food and the lack of air circulation really made it too hot. Next the drinks, the drinks are ok as it seemed like loose interpretation of drinks but not in taste. The drinks were mid at best. The food was okay. The ceviche was over salted. The burger beef was okay, but it felt like something was missing (it was a BBQ burger without the BBQ flavor). Walking in I saw the wood piles and I thought for sure they would be using wood to cook the meat but I was wrong. Overall, I personally would never recommend this place, but I could hear others saying that they liked it. For a total of $68 US dollars I think that it was ok priced if you are used to US prices. read more

When you arrive the first thing is people who are kind and courteous. You might wait 5 minutes to be seated. This is a very successful place. The experience is out of this world. We ordered the panela to start and then we ordered fish of the day and 2 tacos. What a treat, the flavors and texture of every meal transport you and you can't stop eating. Even when full you want to continue. The service is outstanding.. everyone looks after you, well mannered and kind. I see people leave the restaurant happy and interacting with the servers like they are family. All expats have kind words for the staff. We where a party of 6 celebrating a birthday . We arrived at the restaurant and they would not seat us until the fourth person showed up . The place was completely empty they suggested we wait at the bar and buy a drink . We don't drink so that was not a option . We asked politely to be seated and they again refused . We live in Nuevo and stood them our party would be a few minutes behind us . They again refused to seat us . We said to the owner that it was a pretty stupid policy and he told us " we won't be serving you at all tonight " . We had reservations, arrived on time and were dressed nicely. we were greeted by the hostess with " We have to warn you, you can only have the table for 2 hours". What kind of a welcome is that??? Once again, we were seated out front on the trailer on the street - we've only sat upstairs in the actual restaurant one time, which was years ago. People arriving after us were greeted with kisses and hugs and were quickly seated upstairs. We were seated at a tiny 2 top table, despite the fact there was only one other couple on the trailer and the larger tables remained empty the entire time we were there. We considered walking out, but chose to order inexpensive meals, rather than the usual fresh fish or steak. The guacamole was mainly cucumbers, which is inexcusable. We ate quickly and left, never to return. The gentleman waiter with dark hair and a nose ring was delightful and the food is usually good, but the snobby attitude we have experienced on multiple occasions has changed our mind about La Negra. There are so many other great restaurants nearby that welcome you with a smile and open arms - don't waste your money at Le Negra. read more

I had a bad experience at this place, I made a reservation on a Friday, at 7pm and I was told that I have 2 hours to eat and be out (2 hours is more than enough to eat and drink, you don't need to be reminded) Host was rude and arrogant, my table was close to the entrance and I didn't heard host/hostess telling other customers about their 2 hour dining policy. The vibe is still really cool BUT the service and food quality sadly are not what they used to be. We come to Bucerias every year and this was probably our 7th or 8th time at La Negra and the first time we've been really disappointed with our experience. Server was argumentative and dismissive, table was full of dirty dishes most of the meal, didn't bring clean plates or silverware between courses or check how things were. A lot of servers running around with iPads but seemed confused. The potato wedges that used to be amazing are too large now and were hard/undercooked and the new sauce recipes aren't good. Bring back the OLD garlic aioli (new vegan stuff is awful) and some Heinz ketchup. Every new change is not for the better. Guacamole was flavorless and the warm cheese which we usually love was too greasy and served with insufficient tortillas that were tough and thick. Salad and pizza were good. We were in the 6:00 pm seating and they said they were already out of the nightly fish special?! Might go again sometime for the vibe only if I decide I don't care about good food or good service. It's now been open for a few years and has become the absolute staple for any cool-cat-hipster find foodie in the Nayarit side of the Bay of Banderas.
