We were staying at a resort in Puerto Vallarta and were lucky to be invited to a business dinner outing off-site from the resort. It was a much-needed relief from the bland, sub-par food we had been getting at the resort. Our tour group leaders were very helpful to arrange a reservation for our group at the restaurant so upon arrival, we were ushered directly to our seats in the balcony area. The tables were pre-set with chips, pico, and some chili and oil. The pico was the best I've had in years. Fresh and crisp, and very refreshing. We started off with margaritas, which were much stronger than anticipated. We were advised (wisely) to specify the type of tequila we wanted. I eventually switched to a strawberry margarita, which also exceeded expectations. We could taste fresh strawberries! We devoured our entire bowl of pico before ordering appetizers: calamari, shrimp cocktail, and guacamole. Other diners raved about the guac but I thought it wasn't much better than average. The other apps were also equally average. Before putting in our dinner order, our server gave an excellent presentation of the meats, seafood, and specials including a steak-house style showcase of the raw meats at the table. Of course, everything looked incredible, but especially the jumbo prawns. My husband and I ordered a custom meal of 8 jumbo prawns: 4 bacon wrapped and 4 coconut, and the tuna steak, advertised as just seared on each side. The bacon wrapped shrimp were the star of the show; delicious!! As for the coconut shrimp, they were definitely not the same jumbo shrimp we were shown. The tuna was a big disappointment; overcooked for sure. Overall, the food felt no better than average, but considering what we had been eating at the resort, it was wonderful. For dessert, we were offered a special coffee drink. It included a big show with fire, sparks, and flames! A worthwhile experience for sure-- especially if you are not footing the bill. I had a taste, and it was excellent. The restaurant also served us some kahlua and cream - I believe compliments of the bar, but I can't be sure. Service was mostly excellent, and our servers spoke good-enough English and when they didn't understand completely, they always verified their understanding. The timing as great, until we had finished our entrees. From that point until the offer of dessert drinks, was probably 30 minutes if not more. Our dining mates did not notice as they were having a very good time after enjoying the margaritas, and we appreciate the restaurant putting up with us! I would absolutely recommend the balcony over the beach seating. All of the beach vendors were bothering the folks on the beach. We only were bothered by a few, seemingly nicer vendors (mariachi, flowers, etc.) that only added to the experience for an extra dollar or three. Also, it was a stunning view of the beach and sunset. It was an excellent outing and overall the dinner exceeded my expectations. The hotel had a taxi sent for us to head there and the restaurant arranged a taxi for our departure. This is the last restaurant on the beach in Bucerias - fabulous views, right on the water, and easy to get to in general. The staff & Joel our server was very nice - he made the best margaritas (not too sweet and clearly made to order versus from a mix). That part was awesome. As for the food - it definitely caters to the Gringos and not really authentic Mexican food. I had the shrimp & bacon - it was large, but bacon was over-cooked and really not tasty. My companion had the enchiladas which were a little better, but still meh. Everyone in the restaurant was a tourist which can be OK, but this place lacks flavor and authenticity which is too bad. There are definitely way better places in Bucerias. read more

I was having bottles of water from outside but the stuff literally brought me a glass with ice w/o asking. And he said that they use all purify water and ice here so you didn't need to worry All the service we got was so nice. And not to mention food quality was top notch! We'll definitely go back there. 11 years ago we walked up the beach about 50 minute from an all-inclusive to Dugarel Plays for coconut shrimp and a margarita. It was so good we made another trip later that week for more. Since then I haven't had a better coconut shrimp. A decade later I finally returned to find the coconut shrimp and margarita just as I had remembered. This time we got the platter for 2 people of 3 kinds of shrimp - coconut, garlic and bacon wrapped with cheese. It was delicious!! A lot of food but exactly what I'd be craving. We drove in from Punta de Mita, and the "play's" didn't disappoint. The night we were there, the place was empty save for a couple tables. It felt like we'd discovered a secret hidden gem. The waiters were very friendly and professional. The drinks were delicious (good Pina colada and margarita with fresh mango), the view of the beach was lovely at sunset, and the food was excellent . My son had the enchiladas de pollo, husband had the grilled lobster, while I had the shrimp and lobster combo. Everything was carefully prepared so the seafood was not dry but tender and flavorful. They provided a garlic in oil dipping sauce along with a bowl of drawn butter for the seafood. The guacamole starter was perfectly limed. Flan dessert was pretty good too. Service was quick. The only thing that would make it better would be if they somehow solved the area's fly problem. We were swarmed as soon as the food arrived. I asked about the unusual name and the waiter told me in Spanish that the owner's family name was Dugarel, and it was their "lugar". I'm going to go on the assumption that this was a charming play on words . read more

One Margarita. Two Margarita. Floor. This was my favorite restaurant when we were in Mexico, and by far their Margarita Grande was the best (and the strongest) I have ever had. The margaritas were so good we came back again a second time. On top of having the best margaritas in the world. Their food was also really good. The first time I had the beef fajitas which were really good, and the second time I had the sampler plate. The beef of the sampler plate was season so exquisitely I wished it was the only thing I ordered. It was that good. The service was also wonderful. Our waiter was extremely nice, funny, and personable, he even showed us pictures on his phone from some recent hikes he had taken in the area. Their guac wasn't the best, so don't order that, but other than that their food is fantastic, and their margaritas will leave you drunker than a skunk (do skunks actually get drunk...?) read more

I originally came here to eat as a kid and loved it and I was so excited to come back and see if it could stand the rest of time and it did not disappoint. The nachos with cheese and beans were some of the best I've ever had. The fresh salsa was so good I kept asking for more. I ordered the lobster with shrimp and it was very good. We have been here twice on two different trips over the past 10 years. It just gets better each time. It's a really cute little restaurant over the beach. It's all outside with a thatched roof overhead. The food is incredible. Lots of great seafood and everything Mexican. But the service is incredible. A great place to spend an afternoon. You can have a shaded table on the beach, or on the terrace of the restaurant upstairs. If you are going to swim and play, I'd recommend the beach. If you are going to eat, drink and socialize, take a table on the terrace. The food and beverage is way above average, with Mexican specialties, good drinks and plenty of cold beer. Delicious salsa and chips are complimentary and the prices are very reasonable. A cool ocean breeze is usually there to comfort you on a hot day. Plan to spend a few hours, no one will rush you and a server will always be at your side to bring you another drink. read more

We come to Dugarel every time we're in Nuevo. The food is very good and the atmosphere is excellent. Sitting up on the deck, you have a wonderful view of the beach (and sunset, if you get there early). We were served fresh homemade salsa, which was very flavorful. The shrimp cocktail was enough for 4 of us to share as an appetizer. The fresh fish was very good and the shrimp was outstanding. We had the special, which was coconut, garlic, and bacon-wrapped. More than enough for 2. The drinks were huge (and quite strong), the service was excellent, and our overall experience was great. There were plenty of gluten-free options, so our daughter (who has celiac) had a lot to choose from. We will continue to come back (and tell others as well). read more
