But they were not as crazily busy as now. I guess after Covid they were still not fully recovered. Keep in mind that they are right in the Colosseum area, so definitely touristy area, which you would like to avoid if you are looking for great food. But we remembered how good the food was few years back, so we decided to give it a try .This time - OMG- they are so super busy, to the point that poor waiters are literally running. And it makes a huge impact on food unfortunately. It was just ok. I ordered a seafood risotto , which was overcooked ((( and so creasy . The wine tasted watered down. Very disappointing. Not coming back(((

Let me start with our server. Daniel wasn't just any server he treated us like family. His food…read moresuggestions and attention he paid to us was more than amazing. Now to the food and wine. Daniel brought us an appetizer sampler with buffalo mozzarella, meats, other cheeses and burratta. OMG was it good. For our entree's I had the spaghetti (the homemade pasta was a perfect al dente) with meat sauce and meatballs was delicious. My wife had the special, branzino. It was perfectly cooked flaky and sooo... tender! My boys ate the Ravioli and carbonara. They loved their dishes (I ate off of all of their plates and can attest to the quality of their food), but better then that they loved our server Daniel and how he called them out when they tried to order something that he thought was a typical "American" dish and pushed them to try something they couldn't get in the USA. With that being said we went back again tonight and my boys were both hoping Daniel was working and he was. He took amazing care of us again. If you go the lasagna is amazing! One of my boys had the margarita pizza he ate every piece and loved it. This restaurant and the service is 10 stars. I highly recommend you go. Every waiter, manager and staff are the friendliest people you will ever meet and the food is fantastic.

One thing I learned during my visit to Italy? They spell it 'bistrot' - which always looked…read morestrange to me. Another thing I learned while here? Most of the drivers are certified loons. I mention that here/now because we'd stumbled upon this place while aimlessly walking through the city and opted to sit outside (a perfect spring day) and with the constant flow of traffic (walking tourists as well as cars/scooters) - half of our table were "in the line of fire" and sometimes it was a bit scary when drivers casually made wide-turns or had to reverse their vehicle and didn't seem to notice/care how close they got to us. A 'grande birra' got things started right. And after being underwhelmed with pizza in other spots (sad but true) I figured I would take a risk with their vegetarian pizza. Lemme tell you: this was a home run. Thin, well-cooked, and an interesting mix of veggies (including eggplant and slightly pickled zucchini?) really made my 'pie' pop. "Did you receive a complimentary shot of limoncello, which seems to be 'the move' over there?" you ask? Nope. We got the entire bottle! But being the responsible lame-o's that we are... we just had a single shot (which had a bit of 'floor cleaner' aftertaste, to be honest). Cool staff. They did a last-second 'hard lean' for us to pay in cash instead of credit card. Recommended - but if you opt to eat outside... watch where you decide to sit!

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!

The real VIP dish of the night was the tiramisu. I don't eat tiramisu as I've never had a good one. Our waiter Alex assembled the tiramisu table side. Honestly, it really didn't need the hype. With fresh mascarpone, espresso and cacao flakes, it really was a great tasting dessert AND we hope to get back there one last time before we leave. Yes it was that good! We were able to get seated quickly as we got there around 6:30-7pm. Most people started filing in after that. A gentleman started playing music on an accordion and then a drummer met him. He does play for tips. It was a nice touch. A man with huge long stemmed red roses began working the crowd too. I'd say this would be considered fine dining. C'iao!
