Unfortunately, their credit card machine was down and most of the other restaurants near us closed early on Sunday. Upon seeing us struggled on figuring out what we can order with our pitiful amount of money, the owner/chef kindly offered us a discount. He made us two big burgers and even gave us a bottle of water (water is never free in Europe)for only 13 euros! That is about 40% discount! We lived in America and we had to say the burger is one of the best we have ever had. The bun was nicely toasted. There was just the right amount of sauces so there is no juice dripping down our arms while eating. The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly. And not greasy at all! We left with a full stomach and satisfied. Our only regret is that we didn't have money to try the other stuffs on the menu. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place if you are staying near the Vatican museum area and looking for a good meal on a budget! A big thanks to the chef for his kindness.

People served poor quality high priced food. We learned our lesson for this second trip and are using Yelp too. Thanks to Yelp and Pane & Vino, our first meal in Rome was fantastic!!!! All the sandwiches have this incredible and well seasoned juicy roast of pork except one which is the burger. Each sandwich has a different bread...red is colored with tomatoes from Mt Vesuvius. Black is colored with squid ink (don't worry there's zero squid flavor). Yellow is colored with Turmeric! My husband got the burger. It was absolutely delicious! I got the special...HELLO! Incredible and big so you can totally share it or take your time they don't push you out. There's alcoholic options along with sodas and waters to drink. The owner is wonderful! He refers to his restaurant as his house (so he'd never charge a fee for you to sit and eat there) and his menu items, creations, are his "children." He speaks 6 languages fluently so no worries if you don't speak Italian, he also speaks English, Spanish, French, and then 2 others that aren't Latin based. (He also speaks an additional 2 dialects not so fluently but hey, he's doing well in my book and very helpful to the 4 different couples and families that were in his tiny restaurant while we were there. Eat here afterwards before your Coliseum tour. Also, he's happy to give you suggestions for the area...he recommended a gem nearby of ST Clementine basilica to go check out some newly discovered ruins! It was incredible and we would have never known without him offering. We loved the food so much that we made it our last meal before leaving Rome as well!

Pane & Vino is a tiny sandwich shop near il Colosseo that specializes in local porchetta (stuffed pork loin) and is run by the friendliest owner of all time. He gets to know every customer on a first name basis. I'd go back more to see him than to have a sandwich. Seriously, he's pretty awesome. The menu is simple and focused on sandwiches featuring their famous porchetta so we tried two recommendations from the peppy proprietor. While waiting, I got a miniature bottle of Chardonnay and my spouse sipped a Coke Zero. The Traiano Porchetta sandwich (12€ - 4 stars) is an original creation of the out-going owner with a mighty Mustard-flavored blend of Roast Pork, Sun-dried Tomatoes, and Grilled Eggplant. I like mustard and, therefore, liked this specialty much more than my wife, but we ended up ignoring portions of the so-so bun. Pane & Vino Special Porchetta (12€ - 4 stars) was a huge sandwich with the sliced Roast Pork Porchetta plus Mozzarella Cheese, Grilled Eggplant, Grilled Peppers, Mushrooms, Lettuce, and Mayo on classic Italian Pane. It needed more mayonnaise or a sprinkle of balsamic and olive oil for my tastes, but there was no denying it was a hearty hero. There are lots of pane bread and sandwich shops in Rome, but there is only one -- Pane & Vino -- run by the most welcoming of owners ever. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'll be sure to stop in for a casual chat and some yummy porchetta sandwiches on the way to the Colosseum.

The ambiance was fun, bright and cheery with comfortable seating. I was greeted by the friendly employee, who directed me to the QR to scan, as the menu board was only in Italian. Thankfully, they had an English version online. The menu items all sounded amazing, but the avocado burger really called out to me. I was intrigued what the guacamole would taste like. I was told I could order the burger as a standalone item or make it a meal with a drink and side. So I said, "when in Rome!" and opted to order the meal with a sparkling limonade drink and some cheesy fries. I made my way outside to their lovely patio, where there were a couple of available tables. While it was hot outside, I still wanted to do some people watching while I ate. My food was ready quickly and I headed back inside to grab it. The avocado burger was even better than I imagined. I loved how the patty was made of veggies, so it was both light and hearty. I also love the avocado spread, which added a buttery texture while the vegan mayo was very creamy with a good spiciness to it. The accompany cheesy fries were nice and crisp while the cheesy layer was nutty with lovely seasonings. The sparkling limonade drink was refreshing and a good mixture of tart and sweet. I left the restaurant feeling uplifted and energized and ready to take on the rest of the day.

But if you take a quick peek in through the doorway, you will see a round, roasted porchetta just inside the entry with 2 toy pigs providing overwatch while the meatman quietly slices it to order. The menu is not large but the thing to get here is a porchetta sandwich. Double Meat if you are so inclined and cheese can be added but is unnecessary would only serve to cover up the purity of the sandwich filling. A sandwich here may not be life-changing, but it did make my day. The beauty of this place and its food is its simplicity. Perfectly juicy, expertly seasoned, and optimally fatty roasted pork is sliced and put inside a room-temperature, slightly hard white roll. No sauce, no veg, no additional condiments. Nothing covers up this single ingredient sandwich but a white paper wrapper. For $6-7euro, you pretty much get a fantastic taste of how good a cold sliced pork sandwich can be when the creator of it knows what they are doing. There are a couple of small tables outside that you can pay an extra $1euro to sit at but this food is made for walking. Go in, order and take it away to munch on while you continue your foot tour of this amazing city. I love Rome because it is such a complex place with so much to take in. It seems to be ran by one man who is nice but firm. I wanted a double meat porchetta sandwich with cheese but either due to a language barrier or the strict menu listings, my wife and I ended up ordering the same thing - a porchetta sandwich with cheese. Our sandwiches were as basic as they come with simply meat and cheese on a crusty Italian roll. Nothing else. No sauce, no rocket (arugula), no other veggies. It's even served cold. The porchetta was tasty and the cheese freshly sliced. The miniscule space inside of his restaurant speaks volumes with a taxidermy pig (boar?) high up on the shelf, plenty of newspaper clippings with accolades on the wall and, of course, the star of the show - Porchetta under glass with a sharp knife laying next to it. The outside menu is handwritten and apparently he also offers pizza and salad. But who comes here and only orders that? Face it, you're here for the Porchetta sandwich and at a fantastic price of only 6 Euro per sandwich it is worth every penny! Well done sir.
