The Burrito Super Grande NEVER DISAPPOINTS. Recently I had one with shredded chicken. The filling included rice, beans, guacamole and salsa. The flavor was rich with just enough spicy, not too much. The carnitas burrito is fabulous as well. It is so large: it's two meals for me! read more

La Mordida was definitely a mixed bag this time around. We got enchiladas and tacos this time. The enchiladas (Pastor, chicken, and carnitas - rare options for this item) were great. The tacos on the other hand were pretty dry. Each dish came with rice and beans. The beans were likely the saltiest I ever had. I just went for lunch after a long hiatus due to quality and and consistency issues. I ordered a crispy taco plate with two ground beef tacos. The ground beef's texture was akin to the mystery meat in a Taco Bell taco. It had very little flavor, and was mushy like refried beans. So I have to update my review after my most recent experiences at La Mordida. I was able to find an entree I enjoy enough to order regularly. My recommendation is the chicken taquito entree. The taquitos are crispy and there's plenty of chicken in there. They are served with rice, beans, guacamole and salsa. Although you barely get any guac, everything is delicious. La Mordida has been one of my go-to taquerias for almost the past 5 years now. Unfortunately, I've started to notice that the quality of both the food and service has gone waaaay down hill. Despite this, I've still continued to patronize this business because I generally enjoy the food and I love supporting my local businesses. I guess I've been in denial for a while, but the food just hasn't tasted the same for the past year and half. Tonight was honestly the final straw for me. I ordered my usual which is their crispy chicken tacos. The previous time that I had ordered these, they forgot to add guacamole and also charged me a fee which they never really explained was for. Today, I picked up my tacos with such excitement because it's been a while since I've had them. Took my first bite and it didn't taste right at all. At first I thought that maybe it was the salsa. But after taking another bite, I realized that something tasted old and spoiled. They remembered the guacamole this time, but it was bad. Spoiled. Rancid. I opened the taco just to double check. Sure enough, the guac was brown and old looking. Like, really y'all? Did you not think that I was gonna taste that sh*t? What's crazy is that they've raised their prices AND they now charge a fee if you used your card. The sad part is, this isn't the first time that they've done something like this. The beans have been flavorless as of late, and the rice was super hard and overcooked the last time that I ordered them. The chips always seem to be stale and they only give you like 5 of them now. They've become extremely skimpy with the salsa, and they just don't taste the same as they used to. I've basically only resorted to getting crispy tacos here, but now they're starting to f*ck that up too. I used to see the same young ladies working here for years. I know that people move on and the staff changes, but there are new people in there every time that I come in now. EVERY time. They don't really care about good service anymore either. Honestly, there are so many damn taquerias in the neighborhood. I'm just sad because this was my go-to. But after tonight, that's just gonna have to change. Wow. We came here six (6) years ago and just came back again for the first time since then - what an extremely drastic change. Horrible, horrible "service" - don't think we can even call this "service." First of all, when you walk in, you cannot hear anything because they are BLASTING music - I thought we just walked into Marquee Club in Las Vegas (I wish, lol). Secondly, the first thing the lady says (did not give eye contact or say "hello") is "cash only." Okay, we know that because it is taped to your front door, so we came prepared. Third, after paying for the order with cash, my husband asked for $1 bills for one $5 bill, and immediately, with the most attitude ever, she replied, "NO." Okay, fine - "how much worse can this experience get?" we thought to ourselves. Well, it gets worse. Fourth, we asked if it will take "15-20 minutes," and her short answer was, "10." I wish Yelp permitted zero stars because that is what La Mordida deserved today. We walked in on a Saturday around 12:30 and placed an order for three people. I can appreciate that this was in the middle of the lunch rush but what the cashier failed to inform us was that there were two catered parties that the kitchen would prepare before ours. A simple heads up or warning that it could take longer than normal would have been a pleasant courtesy to extend to your customers. But we received no warning. We just waited, and waited, and waited, and waited with the other customers inside. We were finally handed our food THIRTY FIVE minutes AFTER we paid. No apology was offered - not ONE WORD. They didn't care. I will NEVER return to a place that takes its customers for granted. And when we got home the food was rather mediocre. I regret tipping them in advance. read more

My recent visit to this restaurant left me feeling unsatisfied particularly its greasy taco salad and bad customer service. When I ordered the taco salad, I was asked which protein I would prefer. I accidentally chose ground beef. However, within seconds, I asked the cashier whether I could change my option. With this simple request, the cashier seemed extremely annoyed with me. She sighed very loudly and made a visibly rude face to me. I understand I made a mistake; however, this simple request should not have been met with such a rude response. La Mordida is a little mom and pop hole in the wall located in a plaza off of Gregory, that always offers consistently delicious Mexican food. Love coming here for breakfast, a mid-afternoon snack, or a quick last minute takeaway dinner. We occasionally take a morning walk down from the canal trail on the weekend with some kids and the dog, order a couple of breakfast burritos and sit at one of their outdoor tables. The other day my husband picked up an order of the Carne Asada fries and a Carne Asada wet burrito for the kids to share- just these 2 orders alone are generous enough to feed 4 kids and a baby. I snuck a bite and it was so good, my husband and I skipped our dinner plans, went back out and ordered the same plates except switched up the protein and got a Carnitas wet burrito instead. The burritos are under ($10) with an upcharge of ($1.25) if you want to go wet. Worth it! Burritos include beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and topped with melty cheese- I think guacamole too, but we usually skip it since my husband hates guac. We also got an order of the Carne Asada fries especial, I believe it's ($7.99) The fries are the fat steak kind and there's nacho cheese sauce which I usually don't care for but on these, it works. Mixed in with the nacho cheese is (I believe) jack cheese, your choice of protein, sour cream, pico de gallo, jalapeños and guacamole which (again) we asked to be left out. My husband brought home a grilled chicken burrito that had a couple pieces of chicken swimming in rice. I had nachos that midway through I saw had some unidentifiable object in it...a piece of burnt beyond recognition meat or part of a shoe...couldn't tell what it was. My husband has a stronger stomach than me and took those over. I also had a carnitas taco. It was super fatty and the pork wasn't really fried. It was just chunks of pork. After I picked the fat out I took one bite and immediately spit it out- tasted rancid. Had my husband smell it and he said it smelled bad. So I wouldn't recommend this place and we wouldn't go back unless I heard they had improved from others. All the above said, the upshot is that if your cook doesn't know they are serving spoiled meat, you shouldn't be serving anyone. read more

I thought both were very good, but the chicken enchilada was really excellent. The interior of the restaurant is Pleasant enough, but nothing really spectacular. Price is very reasonable. Paid $7 for a crispy taco and two soft tacos. I like their salsa, and the crispy potato is very good. I was surprised that the chicken was so flavorful, so I highly recommend giving the chicken a try. I was not a fan of the shredded beef though. It was tender and juicy but it tasted like pot roast. I don't even like pot roast, and didn't expect that in my taco. Food was fine, not bad, but not outstanding - I already have favorite taquerias I frequent, but I was in the area and decided to give this place a try. Five stars for service though. I don't know how I just found this place if I've been passing by this place for almost all of my childhood! I'm a frequent local in the area (whenever I'm home in the East Bay), and this little taqueria delivers some decent tacos at a great deal. I love how they have special soft taco Monday's and Tuesday's (Taco Monday and Taco Tuesday) for $1.50. I love their grilled chicken tacos. A good amount of meat on a small street taco, so I'm usually satisfied with 3. They also have crispy tacos (tried the potato), which are decent, and their shrimp taco for $3.55 is well-portioned and satisfying. Whenever I have the taco craving, this spot can definitely satisfy! Was choosing plates, figured I'd add a taco. "Sorry, no more Taco Tuesday or any special " Disappointing, but ok - not a big deal Ordered a Relleno.from menu... remember loving it. "Sorry, no Rellenos " I left. I'll still go for carryout burrito, but probably not to dine in. Advice to management - if you dont have it, cover it on the wallboard menu. SUMMARY: Strip mall Mexican joint that serves average food. BACKGROUND We were coming back from a home store trip and needed to kill some traffic time going in the opposite direction. We wanted to try something new, so La Mordida was it. Good reviews, lots of stars, so why not? FOOD Since it was a Monday, it was Taco night (Monday and Tuesday) for $1.50 each. So after looking at a few plates coming in, I decided to order 4 tacos. One asada, two carnitas, and 1 pastor. Here's my thoughts on all 3: - Asada- dry as all heck and not very good because of it - Carnitas - slightly better but you could tell it was sitting in the container for quite some time. The characteristic texture of the pork was lacking. - Pastor- while the sauce was flavorful, the meat again was too dry Overall the flavor was lacking. In my humble opinion, the flavors were watered down for every meat I ordered. What made my taco plate worse was that the sauce from the salsa verde and the carnitas soaked the tortillas. So I ended up tilting my plate to preserve the double stacked tortillas, which were well grilled to a slight crisp. Other: there are complimentary chips in baskets. As newbies, we didn't know they were complimentary. So we asked and the person serving us grabbed a basket for us. After eating them however, I decided that they weren't very fresh and tasted like they'd been sitting there. Then I also saw some guys in line just eating straight out of the lined up chip baskets and not even taking what they ate. So presumably we might've eaten a basket full of chips that someone stuck their hands in. La Morida, if you're reading this, please consider this as a food safety issue and just provide complimentary chips from behind the register. ATMOSPHERE Down to earth w/ a few tables inside and some patio tables outside. Casual. SERVICE Excellent. Everyone in there was really nice and attentive, which is why my initial thought of giving La Morida a 2 became a 3 as soon as I started thinking about the service. REVISIT?
