    Horchata Latte

I love picking up a concha and coffee in the morning - the horchata latte is a fav of mine. My work also loves when I bring by a tray of the conchitas for them as well! The workers are always sweet at the register and quick with getting drinks out. Mellow vibe too if you want a place to sit and read or study.

For Dia de Los Muertos, what better place to get favorites to share on the alter for those who have passed on than La Monarca bakery. This is my preferred place to pick up all the essentials. The pan Muerte here is amazing and soo good made with real orange zest and the softest and fluffiest bread tossed in sugar. It is absolutely nom nom. You can never go wrong with cookies and pan dulce. There is such a huge assortment and variety of options to choose from food, snacks, desserts, and beverages. The service is good. Overall, I highly recommend this place!

Drinks were tasty, as were the pan dulces. Also had their flan, which I wish was juicier with the caramel sauce but perfect texture. Had fine chocolate cake with a subtle flavor, more crumbly and dry in texture than I like. The inside was clean and the cashier were friendly. Good music, and chairs were comfy.

8/13/23 Visiting my auntie in Pico Rivera-so I turned to Yelp for recom., El Mana is closed sadly, so here I am. Needed to buy some pastries to bring for the family. The first staff to welcome me was attentive & friendly, offers assistance if I had questions. I was free to roam & check the shop. I decided to pick & choose from the self service pastries. Additionally, found free used coffee grounds-SCORE!! It's to add to my soil for gardening. I selected a few conchitas & some cookies , corn bread, picked a bag of cafe de olla for the work site-will share with the crew. The tres leches looked like it wasn't dripping with leche-so I passed. I wasn't able to visit my auntie because she was taking a much needed siesta so the crew gets to try the pastries. The cookies, I tasted were pretty good, esp. the chocolate. Amazingly, tge crew weren't impressed by the pastries I selected so I took the rest home & hubby said they're too dry. I must say though, the cafe de olla was the big winner. I really loved it. I might consider returning to purchase it again. Of note, the staff who rang me up was friendly enough but was too busy chatting up the other co-worker & was having a personal conversation while attending to me. I think it's important to have camaraderie at work but when customer service ranks below that, it does not bode well. Hence, the 3 stars and I'm being generous because of the cafe de olla.

    Coffee Thursday ..

La Monarca Bakery & Cafe is located in Pico Rivera, CA.The chain can be found in different parts of Los Angeles. This Mexican inspired coffee shop is known for their pastries like pan dulce to pair perfectly with a warm cup of coffee. Coffee Thursday was always meant to be a page with honest reviews, hopefully constructive. So here is our review: We ordered a hot Oatchata Latte which already has oat milk. The drink is topped with cinnamon, adding that comforting taste to blend with the warmth the coffee offers. To say the least, this drink was delicious. It wasn't overly sweet, still collecting the taste of coffee within the sweetness that came from the horchata. The drink tastes a lot like cinnamon, so for those who enjoy a cinnamon-like coffee, this is the drink for you. Monarca holds plenty of coffee options, but this drink is recognized as their signature. Monarca has plenty of food options, and I will say that their bread has a nice taste to it. We enjoyed their sweet breads, a sweet and soft taste that complimented the coffee. Danny ordered a Burritos Chicken Mole with Flour Tortilla. In truth, this wasn't the best. In terms of flavor, it was fine, but it was obviously a remade, frozen item. The texture and taste was similarly to a frozen burritos you buy from the grocery store and microwave for a quick snack. I was hoping it would have a fresher and softer texture, but the ends were very hard when taking the initial and final bite. I'd probably go for their sandwich next time and hope it has a fresher taste than the burrito. Monarca had good bread and great coffee, but we like to record the whole experience so that new comers or even those who go to coffee shops for food can have a place to enjoy a bite. The coffee is definitely something worth trying at this location, and there may be other options that are better to eat. If you every stop by Monarca, share with us what you got and what you would recommend!

Loved the experience at this cute bakery. The employee Haziel was kind and helpful. I was able to sample two of the menu items. Just a great first experience at this spot!

This place is great! FOOD - was really really good!! The tortillas are fresh and soft. I got the taco trio to taste different proteins and they were so delicious! SERVICE - could be better. I came in for lunch and only 1 guy was working as 2 employees were eating their lunch one of the tables. I totally understand that they have their right to lunch too, but just thought scheduling for most of them to be on lunch while a lunch rush was odd. It was getting busy and the poor guy was having to not only make the drinks, but also make food too. PASTRIES - YUM! Please just try it out. So great. And the self-service picking out pastries to fill your box is nice.

    Not so good cakes. Eh

We are planning ahead for a couple events coming up and we're told these cakes are so good. We came in and picked some up to try. We wanted these cakes to be so so good. We picked up three different slices. Tres leches. Tiramisu. And some caramel one. I have to say they were all meh.... To be honest the boxed cakes my 22 year old daughter bakes at home are much better than all three of these slices we tried. Girls were all friendly. But we will not be returning for cakes any time soon. I will give them an extra star fir their cafe de olla and their hot chocolate. Both very delicious. Sad to say the only thing we will be coming back to this bakery for is for that. Coffee. And hot chocolate powder. None of their baked goods. In my Trump voice, "So Sad"

I was not confused to a stupor that left me angry and frustrated, I was left more dazed with swirling lilies around my mind, like I had been hit hard with the staff of a fairy who pays the bills of the forest as an interior designer. The place has a design concept that takes two opposing forces and blends them into a restaurant concept: health forward food for O.G.'s and their like and crew, all while being a love letter to the streets of Los Angeles, the gritty streets, not the ones next to Rodeo. For instance, Cruz, one of the staff members, was wearing a "Straight out of Whittier" shirt that was clear nod to the movie straight out of Compton that was all about the rap and its consequence on West LA homeboy culture. The central mural of the joint showed low-riders, the LA symbol made with finger angles, and graffiti galore. Again, the message was clear this is a health cafe for Tupac and his friends and followers. These two principal ingredients mixing together (health food and LA street culture) at least in my mind, are more the subject for improv comedy than a sensible restaurant concept. I know people can mix what ever they want together, I know that there is choice when people color and dress, but this motif seemed like it was mixing Ninja culture with a dog grooming service. The concept can work, I see a ninja de-worming a golden retriever with swift skill but this concept also seems forced rather than flowing with common sense. So for a health cafe in LA I see Cher from Clueless, or Barbie, being more easily applied to the concept. But what do I know perhaps in a few months will have a Hell's Angel's tea experience that will not be dainty but rather hard like a helmet and it might be the concept that begins a revolution that ends with Hair Salons with Viking culture at its decoration theme. The (health) food in itself was a blessing. My friend Bailey is the healthy eater of the two of us! She got a simple green salad with tofu. I sampled a forkful. My hand had to dig in hard, with its fork, to retrieve the lettuce, the carrot, and some of the pickle, I avoided the tofu. The greens were fresh, and tasted clean in their simple flavors, but what elevated the green forkful to excellence in taste was the sweet mustard dressing. The green had dressing that turned solid greens to yummy ones! I ordered the shrimp tostada. Cruz, came to the table and explained that my plate was Keto friendly, which meant that it was good food for those who were experiencing life as a pre-diabetic, for example. What I loved about this place and its food, was that I did not feel like I was eating healthy and had to sacrifice pleasure in the name of honoring my health goals. Quite the contrary, the food was just plain good food, and for me, eating good clean food, is a fantastic way to keep my health goals on track. Apparently the tortilla was made out of cactus, and that is a why where the healthy stays in tact, while still being food that is satisfying, and, yummy! I would go here again, especially when my health goals are in full swing. This place will facilitate the process because the food was truly good!

Keep in mind I ordered around 12:50pm and the sandwich was ready at 1:45pm. The meats were yummy, but they did not stand out to me/didn't taste anything special. Unfortunately, the same goes for the bread. However, I did like the packaging of the sandwich and everything in the sandwich tasted well together; the chile spread, burrata, hot honey, pickled onions, meats.. the spice level is definitely tolerable; I didn't need water at all. It was more of a small kick. I also tried their lemon crumb bar and it was very delicious! If anything I would come again to try more of their unique baked goods. GOD BLESS THESE TWO WORKERS!!!!…read more I am new to this crazy city, and on Sunday 2/22/25, it was my first time coming to this location and OMG was it PACKED!!!! There were people everywhere! I am not sure of their names, I think one is "Ant" (possibly the manager) and I'm not sure of the young mans name in grey (he has red braces) buuuut holy COW ! Give them a round of applause!!!! They were carrying the show! Customers were being so rude, yelling at the staff, demeaning their orders/ time it was going to take, asking questions left and right about their order etc. and not once did either of the two workers snap (lord know I would've) I personally told the young man he was doing great, and I truly hope he knows I meant it! He did a million shakes and FAST while answering everyone's demands and still trying to take orders to help the crazy line out. I definitely feel this must be the hardest job- fast food! The cooks were going as fast as they possibly could, and the people just kept pouring in. The pressure literally seemed like Hell's Kitchen ! The associate was cool tho when he did speak. No attitude or anything. He was actually friendly. They just probably need better training. Furthermore, the BBQ Char was good. No complaints. I enjoyed it. The bacon was crispy enough. The right texture. Not burnt or overcooked. Same as the onion rings. First time having it and I wasn't disappointed. Haven't had my Char burger yet but from the looks of it, it's exceptional.
