My experience of late has been that when the food is well-prepared, it's super yummy. But you just can't count on it, perhaps depending on the cook that day. All too often over the last year and a half, when I have gotten home with a to-go burrito, it has been missing all the extras I ordered and paid for (guacamole, Mexican cheese, etc.). Came here on a Sunday night on a while. Ordered the ceviche based on previous reviews and OMG it was fantastic!!! Very fresh. Also ordered plantains that were soft, sweet and lightly crisped edges. The plate came with warm flavorful black beans and topped with a sour cream sauce. My partner had an asada burrito and said it was very good. Good enough to return for. The place is a small inside but has wonderful, plentiful outdoor seating with fantastic tropical plants and flowers and heaters. Oh...and a small parking lot. Their steak tacos were just okay as well. The people are super friendly and if you want to dine in, it's a nice place to that as well on a warm day since their dining area's mostly outdoors. How could my first review of 2024 NOT be for La Mission? This place is consistently delicious, great service (even with super long lines!), and has a beautiful seating area. Though it can get packed and the seating is right off the sidewalk (not in the street, just close to it), the turnover is quick. Try the pozole (my faaaave) or for breakfast, the chilaquiles (also my faaaaaaaaave). You really can't go wrong with this menu! Also omg I've reviewed this place 4 times?? Whoops. I wanted to like this place but there were several areas needing improvement. Namely the cleanliness and the area outside.

On University, La Mission used to be a Taco Bell. Now it is a go to place for Mexican items like tacos, desserts (like flan, crème brûlée, and rice pudding) and burritos. Service is reliable and there is some outdoor seating. There is also a parking lot that will get crowded during lunchtime. Service is reliable and amiable. 4.5* plates, 2.5* Burrito We decided to eat here seeing the high yelp rating and the restaurant has a great outdoor patio with heaters. For a weeknight evening it was really busy which is a good sign I think! :) First visit: I got the chicken burrito to go since thats my usual way to try a new place! Once you order they give you a number and you just wait until its called out. Tip- You can also call ahead to order to save time! The burrito was not for me, I felt the proportions were off- too much rice and too little chicken. I was not happy at all. 3/10. It was well priced ($9 approx) and huge in size but it felt like it was a rice burrito only.. found some chicken towards the end but by then I was full with rice and did not enjoy it. My husband got the chili verde plate and could not stop praising it so I decided I need to go back and try the plate... He said it was the best plate he had so I went back ... Latest visit: I got the Chicken Fajitas plate and omg it was the best decision ever! So glad I came back to try this place again after the first visit. Note- The plate is not cheap ($16approx) but is huge so you will have leftovers , unless you are starving and eat it all :) both are great because the plate was delicious! The chicken was perfectly grilled served with grilled bell peppers and onions 10/10. This came with 3 corn tortillas, tomato rice, tomato salsa and black beans +guacamole and sour cream. The flavours were great and on the mild side- you could taste each individual component of the plate .. also hot sauce/salsa is always an option! The staff is very kind and I saw them keeping the space very clean/ disinfected and I appreciated that alot! Tip- They have a bathroom and the key is at the main counter where you order! I had been always confident when ordering from La mission. this place has had Consistently good food for years! It is with much sadness I have to report I could not eat part if last nights meal that I ordered through door Dash. I don't even know how it is possible to make Al pastor into a fire bomb! I ordered my favorite Taco de Plazas Al Pastor (which i have ordered before and it's my favorite !!!) and a grilled fish taco! ( which was its usual yummy dish! ) I was really looking forward to a yummy meal ! The 5 Tacos de Plazas Al Pastor , for the 2 of us , came hot and ready to eat! I ordered it with no cilantro ! After the first bite, I Could not take a second and my husband's mouth was on fire! It was not the usual enjoyable tasty pastor i was used to getting! They were soooo spicy we could not eat them! I wanted to love this place but my experience was just ok. I would give it 3 stars but my son said his tacos were probably the best tacos he's ever had (and he's eaten plenty of tacos at plenty of taquerias). 2.5 stars for service: nice enough but my daughter's meal showed up a full 15 minutes after the other 3 meals (after telling 2 people that we were still missing her food). 3.5 stars for food: the tacos and plantains get a 5. My mole burrito was a 2.5. Not bad-tasting but just overloaded with rice and not enough grilled vegetables (my selected filling) or guacamole (didn't see/taste any at all). I didn't even want the second half that I brought home for lunch the next day, and I LOVE leftovers. Chips & guac were good but portion was small. My husband said his burrito was fine and my daughter said everything on her fish taco plate needed more flavor. 5 stars for the outdoor patio dining that has a casual summer vibe. Long ago about thirty years ago, La Mission was once a Taco Bell that my father and I frequent on the weekends. Now this historic gem is an authentic spot for delicious Mexican food. I am particularly picky when it comes to Mexican because most establishments make the rice and beans using meat broth stock. Here both rice and beans are purely vegan; a rarity to find. I ordered this through DoorDash. Shoutout to the dasher for getting the food from Berkeley to Richmond still PIPING hot. I burnt the sh!t out of my tongue trying the soup. But that was my bad. I ordered the chicken flautas with mole. I asked for the mole on the side so it wasn't too much and that it didn't get soggy on the way home. Great decision. The flautas were large and crunchy and delicious with the mole. The chicken tortilla soup, minus the burn, was absolutely delicious. *a review during the COVID-19 pandemic* My parents passed by this place recently and we decided to try it for lunch on Sunday. There's a parking lot in the back along with street parking. In terms of seating, they have a nice outdoor area I ordered the mole poblano burrito with carnitas (black beans & mild salsa) and it was delicious. It's a different kind of burrito than I usually order and I really like the flavor of the mole. The burrito has pickled vegetables in it which added a little kick to each bite. My dad also got the mole poblano burrito and my mom got the pipian mole chicken burrito. My mom enjoyed her burrito. During my most recent visit, I got a carne asada burrito and it was delicious again. The horchata is good - not too much cinnamon at the bottom as some restaurants tend to do. We got tres leches cake and the caramel cheesecake. The tres leches cake is moist and flavorful. The caramel cheesecake had a strong sour cream taste, which threw me off a little. Pro-tips: - Make sure to speak clearly through your mask so you don't make the same mistake I did - If you order dessert, make sure to follow up when you get your order. Good food, garbage service. Ordered $175 worth of food to go. Part of that order included 2 orders of chips and guac which they forgot. As well as tortillas for our two plates of fajitas. I understand that people make mistakes but when they forgot parts of the order they acted like it was my fault. I called and they put me on hold snd hung up on me twice. Instead of trying to fix it they blamed me. Rather than crediting my card while on the phone for the missing items they made me drive back to their place wait 20 minutes for them to figure out how to work the register to credit me back.
