$19.93 carne asada burrito with guacamole, sour cream, cheese: excellent. Nothing to dislike; doesn't feel like the asada is too cheap either. Great outdoor patio space.

My cheese enchilada plate with green sauce was very disappointing. The sauce was way too tangy (good green sauce should be a little bit smoky) and the rice texture felt undercooked. Picante does a much, much better cheese enchilada in green sauce. Plus points for excellent chips and salsa and horchata. But I won't come back.

Grabbed lunch here on our way to the Berkley marina with our dog, so we loved the outdoor dining area. We both got a carne asada burrito with guac and cheese with chips and salsa on the side. The portion size is pretty big and pricing was good too. I'd say this was a good burrito, but not my favorite. The carne asada had good flavor and wasn't dry but the burrito had a little too much guac for my liking. Don't get me wrong, I love guac but it was a bit overpowering in proportion to the meat. I'd definitely come back and have another burrito here!

Went to La Mission last weekend off a recommendation from a friend. We came on a Saturday afternoon, and it was nice out so we were able to snag a seat in their outdoor patio. It was our first time so naturally I had to go with a steak super burrito and a couple of fish tacos. the steak super with all the fixings came out to $20 and the two fish tacos came out to $14.50 before tax and tip. I was a little taken aback by the price of the tacos, until I saw them. They came with a huge piece of fried fish on each of them, topped with the fixings. We went with the staff recommendation with mayo and a flour tortilla. Easily one of the best fried fish tacos I've had in the bay. The burrito was just alright though. Didn't really find much of a stand out flavor and wish I would've asked for it grilled. Solid burrito if that's what you're craving but next time around I'm sticking with the fish tacos.

My go-to Mexican spot in Berkeley. Wonderful patio outside (and free parking behind the building), house-made salsa, $13 burritos, and some of the best carnitas I've ever had. Order at counter - seating options are mainly outside on the patio with just a few tables inside. Chips aren't included in the order unfortunately, but worth it to spend a few bucks on chips and salsa! The burritos here are hefty, try them with the carnitas. Not too oily, crisp edges and tender in the middle... the dream. Their fried fish tacos are FRESHLY fried which is a world of difference - hefty portion. I tend to get their grande tacos, they're a meal in itself. A good way to try their different meats too! Their menudo is something special, worth the price with an ample helping of tripe and fresh veg. Can't go wrong here. Kind workers, great outdoor ambiance especially with summer coming up, and good prices compared to many other berkeley spots.

This place was really good. Got a burrito and a taco. Breakfast burrito was tasty and fresh. The fish taco was also good. Overall a good place.

    Baja Fish Taco (grilled cod)

Cute local Mexican spot with limited inside seating and a patio with fairy lights. Food was decent. The chips are thick and crunchy and pair well with the refreshing pico de gallo and creamy guacamole. The baja fish taco is quite large. It comes with grilled cod, black beans, avocado, and pico de gallo but tasted slightly bland. I found the carnitas taco de plaza to be much more flavorful.

The food came out promptly and we really didn't have to wait at all. I can't say anything about the service since you order at a counter and bring a number back to your table, and bus your own dishes. There is plenty of outdoor seating so it is great to sit outside on a nice sunny day. I ordered the Baja fish tacos and unfortunately the batter was not fully cooked. Not to mention the fish had way too much breading, making it not taste very great (look at the photo). I basically picked apart most of the breading and ate the fish inside. A little disappointed but all my friends said their dishes were good, so I'd like give it another chance next time. But honestly for $8/taco, I wish it was better.

===TL;DR=== - Pozole - Chipotle chicken sandwich ===TMI=== Let me telllllllll you. If you're around the area and you're craving pozole? Search no further. Their pozole here is bomb dot com with a generous proportion! I recommend to share or you get 2 in 1. Eat some there and take home the rest cause it gets better the next day. The chipotle chicken sandwich was also fire. The telera roll is perfection, warm and crunchy on the outside and pillow soft as you bite down. The sandwich gets so stuffed, get ready to have sauces oozing out. Oh also don't sleep on their red and green sauces near the counter, they're addicting with your food or your chips! Cute & small interior but large outdoor patio outside surrounded by large umbrellas and greens. Honorable mention, their burrito was bomb also. Literally anything on their menu is a hit.

Quick take: the portion sizes and staff are their best selling points. My wife enjoyed their Baja fish tacos. Nicely fried and huge too! My wife couldn't finish both so I ended up with more food than intended lol. I'll need to try their burrito again before I give my opinion. The chicharron was crispy but felt a bit too dry. The horchata wasn't the typical flavor or appearance I'm used to either. Kinda tasted a bit like chocolate milk. Not my thing but hey it's still hit the spot. Didn't get to sit inside due to limited seating. They have a lot of tables and benches outside. Dress warmly!

Mole Enchiladas, burritos and Chips & Salsa Fresca

Ordered some takeout from this place and wasn't disappointed! The portion sizes were surprisingly big and the food was very filling. It's usually pretty hard finding food in Berkeley that is filling for $15-20 but the food pricing here is reasonably tame. I loved the variety of food on the menu as well, it was my first time trying out the mole burritos and i really liked them! The food tastes good and isn't too salty or too sweet just perfect :) The food was done very quickly in about 10-15 minutes and everything was packaged nicely for takeout :) I really loved this place and would love to order from here again in the future :)! It's important to note, it is on one of the busier streets in Berkeley so traffic may be busy!

I've been to this place before and the food was pretty good, but I didn't take any pics the last time so I had to come back. We ordered the steak tacos and the chicken mole enchilada. We sat down and waited for our food to come and it didn't take too much longer before we received our food. The tacos had some good flavor and was cooked perfect. The enchiladas Mole flavor was not bad, but my chicken was overcooked, and the shell was hard. Overall the food was luke warm. I'll come back and try something else to see if the food can be better.

Very friendly cashier! Cute little patio. There was quite a few people on the patio. Just a couple chairs inside. The mole flauta taquitos were ok - kinda sweet and there was an over powering spice I there. I LOVED the plátanos tropicales. Honestly that would have been plenty for a meal on its own. Those black beans were spicy and paired well with the sweetness of the plantain. Very tasty and refreshing agua fresca. Such a delicious treasure of a restaurant on University Avenue.

That was a typo. They are open till 12 midnight according to their actual website.

Are they closed for dinner everyday?

Hello Dna, La Mission is open every day from 10am to 11pm

I spoke with two employees yesterday who told me that the rice is made with chicken broth, contrary to what is advertised as vegetarian. Is the rice truly vegetarian? Or is it made with chicken broth, like at Casa Latina?

Dear Sophie, Our rice at La Mission is 100% vegetarian.

I usually get the chicken and waffles, but he ordered it anyways so I got lucky to be able to still have a few bites. I ordered the "Breakfast" which came with 2 eggs however you want (I got mine over easy), hash browns, toast and either bacon or chicken sausage. I got the chicken sausage. For a drink, I had the Aquatic Park Sunrise. It was good. Not too sweet and strong enough that I wanted another lol My friend just had coffee which the staff made sure to always ask if he wanted refilled. Breakfast came quick. The chicken and waffles is a classic. I always order it when I come. Chicken was thick and juicy. I didn't try the waffle this time since I had my own food to eat (plus I've had it so many times before). This plate comes with either gravy or syrup but definitely pay the extra fee to get both. Fluffy eggs, but showed up cold last time. Coffee ranks as delicious and the Bubble & Squeeze mimosa is plenty good with OJ. But they offer other fruit flavors as well. It's one of those what's-not-to-like brunch spots where the only issue is consistency. And I would honestly say that it's not very often that they're off. This is definitely one of my top five brunch spots in the East Bay. Great service. Always! Cozy and homey atmosphere with lots of cute decorative touches when you're sitting inside, mostly two tops and four tops, but I think there's at least one table that seats six or eight people. The workers and the owner were all very kind and welcoming. I got there a little after they opened in the morning. As for the food, I ordered the kimchi fried rice along with the chicken and croffle. The fried chicken tasted a bit interesting. I'm not sure if the frying temperature was off or if it had something to do with the condition of the oil, but the texture of the breading wasn't quite right. I used to work at a fried chicken shop in Korea, so it was a texture I recognized--the coating was fully cooked and wasn't necessarily soggy, but there was no real crunch. Instead of being crispy, the breading was soft and kind of gave way when you bit into it. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue eating it. I'd give the chicken a 2/5. As for the kimchi fried rice, I liked the addition of cilantro and beets, which gave it a refreshing touch. My only issue was that the kimchi itself was way too sour for kimchi fried rice. I don't mind fermented or sour kimchi, but in this case, the sourness overpowered the rest of the dish. Overall, the cafe itself is cute and the people working there were genuinely very kind. I just wish the food had been a little better, especially the fried chicken. Will be back next time to try out the coffee!! It is a cafe after all.

Frittata: pastured eggs, assorted vegetables, caramelized onions. WAY too good! we all love this one. Herb-Dijon Biscuit: Excellent savory biscuit, you can taste the high quality butter used.

Very cute and quaint spot for breakfast. A friend suggested we meet here on Saturday for a late…read morebreakfast, what a great choice. It was pretty hard to pick from the menu items, but I settled on the Frittata with a side of Fennel Sausage, sourdough toast and a Arnold Palmer. Although the seating was full, thank goodness out food came out just as some seats were emptying out. It was a chilly day and the outside seating was full too. The service was without any complaints. They did their best to accommodate all patrons despite it being very crowded and crazy busy. Overall I would come back here, probably right as the doors open to be guaranteed a place to seat and not have to wait and hope for a seat. Oh the music was on point!! Put it on your list, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Cali Alley is one of my go-to spots... I'm constantly trying to convince people to meet me there…read morefor lunch, or telling them to just DoorDash it because it's that good. It's also one of those places that makes you want to stay. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generous. Every time I come here, I tell myself I'll pace myself... and every time I fail because it's just that good. The burgers are loaded and perfectly balanced, the fries are always crisp (never soggy, which is rare), and everything tastes high-quality and made to order. You have to try the chicken and waffles. The waffle batter tastes homemade and the butter takes it to another level... it's one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. I'll even DoorDash it all the way to Jingletown. The patio setup is really well done... there's a mix of larger tables for groups and higher bar-style seating for smaller hangs. The wooden furniture and cushioned benches make it comfortable, and they've got heaters for colder days and umbrellas when it's sunny, so you can usually pick your ideal spot. You order at the window and then just hang out while you wait... it's a relaxed flow and the food comes out pretty quickly. The staff are always kind and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, homey vibe with really good music. Highly recommend... just come hungry.
