Based off the first review and recommendation on Yelp at La Michoacana - I decided to treat myself to a cool treat on a hot and sunny Saturday. La Michoacana is located in a plaza with other Mexican/Hispanic based businesses and restaurants. This place is definitely unique to the Ocala area and so happy it has made its way here. When walking in, you are immediately hit with the fresh smell of waffle cones and bright colors of the shop. I was greeted by a warm and welcoming smile. This shop reminds me of the Mexican food vendors you would see in Cali where you can get a fresh fruit cup with tajin and chamoy or a mangonada. It was very authentic to what you would see in Central and South America, which I loved! My eyes immediately saw the mangonada deluxe and I was sold. I watched the woman prepare it with ease and I glanced around to see different candies and chips that were Mexican based, paletas (popsicles), and the variety of ice cream and sorbet. They also sell elotes and esquites as well. Once my mangonada was ready I was pleasantly excited to take pictures and eat. This cost about $8 which I thought was pretty good for the size of the treat. Since it was such a hot day, I decided to indulge inside the shop. They have a lot of seating and high table tops. So the mangonada was layered with chamoy and chile and mango sorbet, mango chunks, different pieces of candy, and a tamarind straw. It was the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy all in the bite. Everything tasted so fresh but had so many different flavor profiles going on that complimented each other. The mango chunks were sweet and ripe as well. I'm so happy I stopped in to satisfy my sweets craving. I highly recommend trying out this spot!

El autentico helado mexicano! We've been to one of La Michoacana's multiple locations in California, and are happy to report that there's one available in Ocala, FL! This is where you get any fruit cup of your dreams, and explore one of the most prolific Mexican ice cream shops throughout the US, Central and South America. If you're one who enjoys some spice, be sure to request for chamoy, tajin showered treats in form of anything your heart desires. You can get it in mangonada (in either lime or mango sherbet) - add that salty, spicy, savory tamarind shelled straw to the sweet and citrus flavored treat, or try their tostilocos for some fiery flavors. Their collection of agua frescas and wide array of ice cream flavors are sure to quench the summer heat and while you're at it, enjoy cooling down in their vibrantly colored lobby with bountiful picturesque moment. You can get a photograph while you're there with angel wings and "I Love Ocala" wall. So go ahead, travel down this memory lane and take a well-earned respite and cool down from the oncoming heated summer.

In addition to the Home and Garden show, there were horse jumping competitions and apparently some tour groups with their yellow lanyards hanging on their necks. Needless to say, we waited in line a while and had to hunt for tables and chairs. Fortunately, my wife and I "divided and conquered" as she secured a table (which we happily shared with another couple after my wife wiped it off with a wet wipe) and I stood in line to place our orders. I ordered the Southwest Burger ($17) and my wife ordered the Patty Melt ($14.75). Both came with fries. We just had water. The wait was longer than we thought (the place was truly packed). My burger had good flavor but thought the burger patty was a bit overdone for my tastes. My wife liked her patty melt and thought it was full of flavor as well but would've preferred the marble rye to be grilled instead of toasted. All in all, despite the crowd which we thought may have affected their execution a bit, we thought of our experience a positive one. We might consider trying out their breakfast when we decide to head back out to WEC for a Sunday service in their quaint chapel. NOTE: I neglected to take pictures since the long wait left us famished.

Quite the rollercoaster experience at Ralph's Burgers! The emotional highs and lows were almost…read morelike a mini-drama in themselves. The Southwest Burger looked promising with its chipotle aioli and candied bacon, it was a gastro-enthusiast's masterpiece, but the service? Yikes. Many other interesting burgers, sandwiches, shakes, and cake concoctions were on the menu, but my decision was set in stone. The anticipation of that first bite of the burger was going to cure my animalistic hunger as we headed to the counter and met with the cashier, Denise. She literally sounded like a robot requesting the choice of hamburgers and toppings. Then rudely explained the credit card payment options. I thought to myself, am I on a hidden camera television show? Absolutely zero personality, which sadly just severely diminished my highly anticipated Ralph's Burgers experience. Wait there's more...Emotionally defeated, I made payment for the food and still left a $12.00 TIP for Denise to merely enter my order into the computer. We all self-serve at the fountain drink station and find comfortable refuge at a quaint table. About ten minutes later, Denise yells my name alerting me that our food order was ready and I instantly acknowledged. Oddly, she yells to me, "I Need Hands!!!", as she just stood motionless behind the counter holding two of our food trays. It felt like a walk of shame to take possession of our food. Took a few minutes to shake off our initial contact with Denise and finally dug into that beautiful long awaited burger. Holy smokes, the chipotle and candied bacon were integrated perfectly with the juicy cooked beef along with big golden onion rings as a perfect sidekick. The World Equestrian Center provides unparalleled service at their luxurious estate, which I have witnessed during my stay, thus, if aware, this type of unprofessionalism toward customers and guests would never be tolerated. This experience definitely makes for an interesting holiday memory! It's just a shame that something as simple as friendly service couldn't make it even more memorable.

There are a few tables outside, right by the door. There are signs that make it clear they are non smoking tables. We decided to eat inside, were seated right away and our server came quickly. She told us what some of the popular burgers were and we made our selections based on that. I had the Jamaican burger cooked medium. This burger was cooked perfectly, had good flavor, was topped with a sweet and spicy jerk sauce. It was everything that I expected. My friend had the Brie burger and his daughter had the smash burger and they both said those burgers were very good as well. Our server was attentive to our needs throughout our meal. I would definitely go back again.

Tonight was "trivia night", which, while we didn't play, we did enjoy trying to guess the answers. Our grand daughter's face was a big "O" of amazement when realizing the upper tables were enjoying roasting their marshmallows at their table...when she was told they were making s'mores...she went nuts! She's so excited to get tableside s'mores! My wings were even better than they were last time since there was an addition of seasonings sprinkled on them along with the dill pickles, but unfortunately, our cheeseburger pizza suffered from not having enough mustard and ketchup base to it, the tomatoes were enormous chunks and so were red onions. It made it very difficult to eat without things falling all over your clothing since they were such huge chunks on top of the tiny pieces of pizza. My husband got the steak bomb sub, son got a pepperoni Stromboli, daughter in law got the Sharon's Brie burger, grand daughter the child's cheeseburger and fries. Our apps were the garlic knots, mild wings (10) and fried cheese curds with sriracha ranch dipping sauce. Everything was okay, except that it took forever for everything to come out, compared to our first visit. Even our s'mores seemed to take forever. The quickest part of the whole visit was the bill . The fella that waited on us the first time was on point. Not saying that the young lady waiting on us was rude or anything, but I think she was trying to do too many things at once and some things just fell by the wayside. Last visit we came in on a Saturday as well, but perhaps some people are just better at multitasking? I don't know. This time, our bill was over $200 with tip, but we still brought home food again. Not a lot compared to the last time, only 2 little pickle wings (I still can't get enough of those darn things!) and maybe 4 slices of pizza. My husband's loaded tots weren't to his liking, so there's something even for the dog tomorrow We may stay away for awhile and see if they manage to work out some kinks. If anything, the best rule is consistency. If the food preparation is not consistent every time you go to eat there, there's a problem. There should be NO deviation just because someone else is cooking it. All recipes should be the same. Twice we've ordered the same items and they've been different. I still recommend this place for great vibes, cocktails, food and the tableside s'mores. There's just nowhere else like it!
