La Michoacana (Covina) caused my jaw to fall open. The fruit ice cream is shockingly luxurious. The mango fruit ice cream tasted like fluffy, freshly mashed, thick mangos. It's the best mango ice cream that I've ever tasted.... One scoop costs $4.99. Two scoops cost $6.99. La Michoacana (Covina) is hidden in a large dingy plaza. Yet, as you enter, you're transported to a friendly, attractive, Mexican ice cream parlor. The wide location is vibrant and very clean. Its tables are shiny, and it's well-ventilated. Bright Mexican music plays in the background. I arrived on a weekend (around 6:20pm) and it was packed with customers. Staff and customers happily chatted in Spanish. Staff is very helpful. The lady scooping the ice cream spoke English and Spanish. And the extremely friendly, cheerful lady at the register spoke primarily Spanish. The purchase went very smoothly. La Michoacana (Covina) is absolutely a secret gem. It's one of the best fruit ice cream locations in SGV. As mentioned prior, the mango ice cream is exceptionally good. If I'd eaten it at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, I wouldn't have questioned it. Unfortunately, the strawberry fruit ice cream was less exceptional. I loved the soft, frozen, diced pieces of strawberries, but the strawberry ice cream had a very common (strawberry milk) taste. (Quick Tip: 50 cents extra cost for card. Bring cash.) Overall, La Michoacana (Covina) is popular for a good reason. The fruit ice cream (especially the mango) is a magical, unique experience. In that scoop, I found bliss. I recommend. 5/5
Very friendly service. Fresh fruit. Nicely decorated too. Had chamoy and tajin on the side. Thank you
was craving some sweets after dinner and this was right next door! haven't stepped into one in forever but it was pretty occupied inside until closing. we sampled a variety of flavors, both traditional and non traditional, but ended up choosing the strawberry con fresca one because they use actual strawberry fruit bits and it didn't taste artificial as you'd think! not too sweet but fulfilling for a lil sweet treat kek
I had just had a great lunch and dessert was next up. This spot was close by and it had all the desserts I was looking for. I just had a nuez paleta and it was delicious. The ice cream scoop version is always good but in paleta form it's easier to eat, just be careful with the ice cream drips. Solid amount of desserts and snacks to choose from also. I'd definitely come back here to try their other menu items.
06/30/2019 Here for dessert where you can get ice cream, ice, popsicles, chamango, and everything else you want. I wanted fruit ice like sorbet. There was more value with the flavors in a big cup. That's what I keep telling myself. Next time I will try a paleta.
YUMMM!!! stopped in to buy some ice cream for my brother since he just had surgery... love their selection! ive been here several times in the past and have always been so impressed with their wide range of flavors!! they have so many different kinds of sweets, from drinks, popsicles, to scoops and baked goods... yummm!!! the service is good, but it's often that they're understaffed so please bare with them. otherwise, the treats are sooo yumm and the staff frequently washes their hands. it gets packed here so be prepared to wait a few minutes. the wait is worth it!
Huge Fan ,wished I had stopped by sooner. This place has all varieties of home made Ice cream pops (Palletas) beyond choices . Just the right about of sweetness, mild perfectly made. If your craving fruit only ,all fresh or you can add there popular ingredients offered: coconut shavings, granolas, raisins and there famous cream (cream) absolutely delicious ! My favorite to order ,I make sure to ask for Large Freshly made daily "Fresa con Leche" strawberries with milk. I crave it everyday ,served over Ice They offer so many other choices. The menu is endless with treats.
The food here is good, no question. The service is fast and the employees are friendly. You can get food for takeout or eat inside. The restaurant was very clean, and the food/snacks were very tasty. You get what you pay for, so the prices are a bit on the high side, but well worth it. I will definitely be returning to try the tacos, street hotdogs, burritos, etc.
Fast service. Substantial choices. We ordered the pistachio ice cream and it is so good! Yum
I happen to be in the area driving down Azusa and saw the La Michoacana sign so I had to stop, while La Michoacana might not be the best ice cream you can find, they do offer unique flavors you won't find in most Ice Cream shops. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-michoacana-covina?select=p35kP9fZC0WsdtdNqunuVg 2 Scoops ($4.89) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-michoacana-covina?select=9Nb9gYiex6FYsKNANJJCZQ Bottom is Cajeta/Caramel with Maria's Gamesa, Top is Mango Sorbet with Chamoy. *For those that might be asking what is Chamoy - It's a very popular condiment in Mexico made from dehydrated fruit such Apricot, Mango or Plums, or a combination of... and Chili Powder, Salt, Sugar, and some Lemon Juice, Chamoy is Sweet, Spicy, and Tangy. Cajeta - I found it to be very sweet, not to my liking and I tossed most of it, IF you like VERY SWEET this might be a flavor for you, personally I couldn't recommend. 1-Star Mango con Chamoy https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-michoacana-covina?select=Q7vxQjZaFlkUSUkFq0NuxA The Mango sorbet had great flavor, not too sweet, the Chamoy had a little kick of spice and a lot of Tanginess, a little too tangy but overall, this was a winner. 4-Stars
Everything was delicious. Their menu had all the prices erased, so a star off for blind ordering. Attached a pic of my receipt. Chocolate banana was unripe, but I still enjoyed it. The ones you getting Newport Beach are are better because the banana flavor comes through more. All the paletas were 5/5. I tried the kiwi, strawberry, passion fruit and tamarind.
I am a sucker for ice cream and have a weakness for it. I can eat it 24/7, and more importantly, I NEVER feel guilty. I am not sure if that's a good or bad thing. During my most recent visit, the outdoor temperature in my area was 103 degrees (like most areas), so this was my justification for loading up. I visited one of my favorite ice cream shops, La Michoacana. This shop is large, offers many of my favorite yogurt bars made with real fruit, has affordable prices, and the service from any of the employees is always top-notch. The overall atmosphere is cool and relaxed. Tip: When you buy five ice cream/yogurt bars of any flavor, you receive an extra bar for free. During my recent visit, I purchased one pistachio bar made with yogurt and pistachios, one walnut bar made with yogurt and walnuts, and my favorite of all, a yogurt bar with a slice of strawberry, kiwi, and mango. I LOOOOVE these bars BIG time! I am and will remain a loyal fan of this shop. read more
La Michoacana in Covina always puts me in a good mood. I went after lunch thinking I'd just grab something small and ended up grinning like a kid in a candy store. The place is bright, colorful, and smells like pure happiness. The staff moves fast but still manages to be friendly, and even when it gets busy, there's this fun little energy that makes waiting feel worth it. This time I got a dragon fruit agua fresca that tasted like vacation in a cup, and my sister got strawberries with Nutella that looked way too good not to steal a bite from. Everything is fresh, sweet, and hits exactly how you want it to. I love that you can grab ice cream, paletas, or take-home treats depending on your mood. And yes, they take Apple Pay which is perfect for people like me who never carry cash but always crave dessert. It's one of those spots that never misses...the kind of place you stop at "just for a minute" and walk out with three things you didn't plan to buy. Five stars all the way. read more

The mangoñadas here are so much better than other places. Somehow makes it not overwhelmingly sweet. The strawberry is also amazing. Get with the chopped peanuts waffle cone. You won't be disappointed!!! read more

I usually come here with my family for their amazing paletas! I've seen their sign about party trays, so I decided to get one last minute for a party. I went in the day before to order it. There's not much information about them so I just asked for the smallest size & didn't really know what to expect. When I picked it up they asked if I wanted chamoy & Tajín and they gave me a brand new bottle of Tajín & whatever was left in this huge chamoy gallon lol! It was $36 so not the cheapest but it's a good option when your in a crunch. The fruit was fresh & I like how they decorated it with the limes around the tray. read more

I've come here once with my BFF, but my BFF has brought me paletas from here several times. When I was there, the employees were very nice and they were quick. The customers seem to be regulars because they seem to know what they want by ordering quickly and then leaving. The employees were all wearing masks and it's a requirement to wear one upon entering. The paletas I have from here are always good and at a good price. It's never too sweet. Very flavorful and can last for about a week or so. Make sure you wrap them in tin foil when you put them in the freezer. They have a lot of paleta choices. They also have ice cream too, but I did not try them. read more

Came here for desserts after happy hour on a Friday night. When we first got here, it was not busy, but people started trickling in as we were enjoying our ice cream and there was a pretty decent line to be served. They have a array of ice cream flavors and other Mexican snacks. I tried different ice cream. I ended up getting the cappuccino ice cream. The taste was subtle. The strawberry ice cream was pretty good, too. In retrospect, I probably should have ventured out and gotten a Mexican classic flavored ice cream, something they actually specialize in. I guess I wanted to go with something tried and true. read more

Would you like to have a mini exotic vacation ....try yummy exotic concoctions ? Then u must come to La Michocana. This is NOT that blah vanilla, chocolate or rainbow sherbet, you get on your cafeteria tray. These are fresh, exotic, flavors doing the conga on your tongue. .. This is not one of those prissy ice cream parlors ..where people sing thank u ....this is the real deal...they make their delicious exotic treats....themselves....chopping, dicing fruit, mixing chimoy, tamarindo, even tequila .. think........ exotic vacation...village walk...you encounter tons of locals in line to buy ice cream from a little wooden stand...... Old school Strip-mall near dd's with plenty of free parking. Looks small from the outside but there is actually plenty of room inside for sitting and gawking at what others are ordering. There are two sides when you walk in. To your left are all the "Paletas" aka Ice Cream bars. You have a choice of AGUA(Fruit and water) or LECHE (fruit and milk). And...NOO, there is no frozen yogurt ...we have plenty of those spots everywhere else....so don't even ask... they may throw u out...kidding! There is a huge menu and you can see the various paletas through the glass. Most people were taking a minimum of six to go...because it is hard to decide which one you want to try. There is NO tasting the Paletas...but I don't think that is a bad thing...just jump in and get 3 AGUA and 3 LECHE. To your right ...are the containers of delicately blended natural fruit and other delicious add is. You can get a cone, cup, milk shake, or a huge fresh fruit concoction with chili, lime, . Same concept on the ice cream. One side is AGUA and next side is LECHE. So for all u lactose intolerant folks...no worries....you can still experience this mini exotic vacation. There are also Snacks you can order on this side. Spicy chips of various styles which open and pour other spicy elixirs and mix it all up..like a little hand held personal treat bag...with a fork or spoon. One of there more popular snacks is the ESQUITE... not sure what the name translates to...but what you will get is one of Los Angeles delicious "Mexican Corn". They literally cut off the kernels from the cob , then put in a cup and add anything from chili to cheese....yummy... comes in a small and large. The large looks huge! Hubby and I got two scoops each...don't judge ...we had a hard day . Hubby was thrilled with the "chicle" real chunks of bubble gum with delicious creaminess. I am more of an adventurer...I went for the Guava for one scoop and then the Queso for my second scoop (think rustic cream cheese/ cheese cake ). Both delicious.... so delicious....we came back NEXT DAY... hubby stuck to the Chicle...but I tried the Guanabana...(exotic sweet fruit ..looks almost like a prickly pear) and the Cajeta (had chunks of Maria's cookies in it...but to me not enough cajeta). Don't hesitate to ask to try as many flavors as you want. Staff is very helpful. I read a comment about some of the workers not smiling. All I can tell you is that this is not 31 flavors where staff are trained to be robots and smile big. These are hard working folks that are happy to serve you...and if they are not smiling big...it's probably because they are focusing on your ice cream and snacks and trying to work fast to get to the hungry folks at the end of the line. Prices, great!! For the quality and freshness....hubby and I had four scoops (I said don't judge) and were out a little over $6 ...YESSSS. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because their air conditioner was not working. The place gets really packed so it can get warm while you wait in line. Of course all is good once you have your treat in your hand! read more

I am so glad they are local to my city! And they are perfect for summer! I had a girlfriend that kept raving about this place and several other locations and finally made it. After two trips in two days -- you can say I'm a new fan and regular customer. I say Baskin Robbins WHO!?! la Michoacan blows them out of the water and all the ingredients are SO fresh. Paleta a for days and I highly suggest the Tequila flavor and sweet corn ice cream!!!! Don't ever leave La Michoacan! And FREE samples if you ask!!! read more

Have been to this location more than once and love it! It is never empty even during the cold winter days. They give good portions too! I have ordered one scoop of 1/2 pistachio and 1/2 Ferrero but it comes as a legit one scoop of each, but charged for just a single scoop. Another time I came and got a small mangoneada and it was super delicious! Just the right mix of chamoy and mangos! The avocado ice cream is good too, just not as sweet as the Filipinos make it. If you are looking for a sweet treat with a hint of something different, I highly recommend this place. There are so many options to choose from! read more
