Guacamole
Candice S.

I came here for a friends birthday recently. The atmosphere was really cool and modern we were seated promptly. The server came over and she served us at a very nice pace. If you're in a rush, this is not the restaurant for you. It's more about enjoying the ambience and the experience we ordered a few appetizers. The fresh guacamole was really good. I ordered the steak tacos. I thought they were really good for the real authentic taco vibe. I think I lean more towards American taco vibe so I don't know if I would order it again very great experience. I would recommend for a really nice little date night or friend date.

Came here for a weeknight dinner with a friend. The perfect girl dinner! We started with guac which was excellent. All the drinks are phenomenal. I recommend doing the "Bartender's Choice" where the bartender makes an original creation for you. I ordered 2 shareable plates and a side for dinner, and in hindsight I should have just picked one shareable. The portions are more gracious than I expected from such an upscale spot. The vibe is phenomenal. The giant Frida mural is mesmerizing and the whole place smells like palo santo. Extra bonus points for such a luxurious bathroom with real cloth hand drying towels! I will be back soon.

Storefront.

The storefront is very unassuming in the sense that you can tell something is there but can't tell exactly what it is. The parking situation is near non-existent so make sure you are ready to walk up or down if street parking is unavailable. The outdoor patio and the interior design is well thought out and gives off an unapologetic colonized mexican vibe. We were in the process of making a reservation using the restaurant's preferred method (lamayarestaurant.com) according to google; when we noticed that most of the time slots for a party of 3 were available on a Friday night so we figured the restaurant wouldn't be that busy and made our way there to find out we were wrong. We were told a table would become available in about 2hrs so we asked if bar seating was available and the lady at reception kindly led us to the general area where we should be seated. Upon taking our seats, the bartender gentleman at the counter begrudgingly told me to move down a seat as some of the bar seating seemed to be reserved (never have I encountered reserved bar seating before or attitude like that from an upscale restaurant) and my parents had to awkwardly get up after we were settling in and move down a seat which is hard to do as the seats were high-seats. Anyways, the most competent bartender lady introduced herself as our waitress with such a bright amicable gusto and handed us the drink and food menus and gave us ample time to decide. We opted for 3 cocktails and were mostly pleased with the quality and preparation of drinks. The matcha and lychee cocktails were a welcome surprise and are probably targeted more for the asian audience. The lychee fell a bit short as the ingredients did not mesh very well. The matcha cocktail was well balanced. As for my mezcal cocktail i knew what i was getting into and i got it (our waitress knew how to make a strong drink which suited my taste). The corn ribs were excellent and no do not take a bite of the whole thing thinking it will be soft like i did. It's very much similar to that of corn on the cob and should be treated as such. Very glad they used queso fresco and the chipotle mayo was very rich and helped the other ingredients stick to the surface. The chicken enfrijolada took saucy to the next level and immediately the bean purée, habenero crema and wild mushrooms stole the spotlight. Overall the umami factor was on the milder side and lacked true depth. The shredded chicken made the enchiladas an overly mushy dish with lackluster texture. The aguachile verde was fresh and the ingredients had good synergy but could have been great with some more sea salt and maybe one more tortilla circle chip because there were only 3 and there were 3 of us. The pork carnitas was near perfect with how well the beans turned out. I would give the pork itself a 7/10 as some bits were dry and chewy giving the diner some inconsistency and the same could be said about the lamb. The tortillas were nice and soft without falling apart; nailed it. I did not like the red salsa at all because i'm pretty sure it was mostly pizza sauce because i kid you not they have the same sauce at una mas locations here in the west coast. Some mexican rice would have completed the dish. The lamb... the sauce was way too overpowering that it was difficult to taste the pickled onions and garnish. I actually think the lamb birria was supposed to come with its own house-made tortillas but maybe due to limited space or something that was forgotten. The cuisine is not entirely authentic and can be confirmed by the majority demographic dining here. I think maybe due to this, a lot of the more authentic mexican spices are held back to accommodate. I see the progressive determination CJ has in mind for La Maya but for me as it is today sadly missed the mark.

We frequent La Kang up the street, but we'll absolutely be adding La Maya into our rotation. If you're looking for great Mexican food in a stylish setting, this is the spot. Perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. The interior is beautifully decorated, the cocktails are top-notch, and the food is absolutely delicious. We loved everything we ordered, but do yourself a favor and get the Aguachile - it might have been my favorite dish. Can't wait to go back!

La Maya is unlike any other mexican restaurant in the valley, the food and drinks are amazing. Not to mention the atmosphere is also fantastic. What CJ did with the place was great and what Jean is doing with the cocktails can only be mirrored by Presleys (also theirs) This has become a go to for my friends and I whenever possible. Servers are always friendly and attentive and the decor goes crazy. Get the corn ribs for sure. Not to mention the Aguachile

Tres leches with perfectly fresh strawberries.

The food was excellent, service very friendly and knowledgeable. Atmosphere authentic, relaxed and charming.

Very cute Mexican Restaurant right in the heart of Hellertown. It is not well marked. I happen to notice the outside dining area and walked over. Very glad I did. I had the Pollo Encahuatado. It was very different from anything I've ever had. The chicken was a little dry but the flavor of the dish made up for it. They have a full bar. I had the bartenders choice. It was very good. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Great cocktails, amazing service and delicious meals. The margaritas were excellent, made with tequila produced and bottled for the restaurant. Our server Lila was most attentive, offered great suggestions and provided us with samples to taste. The combination of flavors was outstanding with the branzino and sea scallop ceviche among my favorites. If you are looking for an elevated Mexican dining experience check out La Maya.

Excellent all the way around ! Food was fantastic- service was friendly and attentive. The feel of the place only added to the evening. I will be returning.

It is definitely a college town bar (I'm in my early 50's). The bartender was prompt and took our drink orders right away. The cook is right in front of you at the bar which is kind of cool. You could tell by speaking with him that he took pride in their menu. He let us sample some of the sauces which was great. I had the special of the day which was a grilled tomato/bacon cheese on Texas toast and a tomato soup with rice, ground beef, onions and peppers. It was fantastic! I also had the Cowboy bites which were jalapeños with cream cheese, bacon and corn - my goodness they were so good! My bro had the "what came first". Fried chicken sandwich with a fried egg and bacon. It came with fries and he said it was really good. My husband had Tri-tip cheese steak with no mushrooms. He said it was delicious. We were there on our own time without a schedule, so we didn't mind having to wait for our bartender. It started getting busy while we were there so the vibe was pretty cool. We will definitely be going back!

We ordered a mix of appetizers, including the cheesesteak egg rolls, breaded mozzarella half moons, housemade G's sauce wings, and the grilled cheese with fries. Everything came out hot and fresh. The wings were the standout, great flavor with G's sauce, which is like a peppery hot sauce. It's not super spicy, but it does have a slight kick. The grilled cheese could've used more cheese, but overall, everything hit the spot. Fun place for a casual night out! I was between 2 beers which they allowed me to sample since they were on draft and I went with the amber which was delicious. We were not sure what we wanted to eat so we did a few appetizers. The pretzels were ok. They were a little hard for our preference, but had good flavor with the cheese dip. Now the rest of the items we selected were absolutely delicious. My kids at up the bone marrow and we placed a 2nd order since it was so good. They didn't need the bread with the dish since they just enjoyed the marrow and the parsley type spread that came with it. The potato leek soup was also delicious and we really enjoyed it. The pierogies and kielbasa were selected with the fries and they were grilled well (to my preference - some may think it was over grilled). They had TV since some sports on and the restaurant was very clean. We had quick and great service when we were here. We sould come back for sure if we would be in the area just for the soup and marrow!

We made a reservation after giving the place a call a few hours beforehand and being advised it was a good idea. I didn't understand why, since we were almost the only people in there when we arrived--then, suddenly, ten minutes later it was packed! So the reservation was definitely a good idea. Despite how busy they were, our waiter was excellent and very attentive (I'm pretty sure his nickname was Shaq, he gave us his full first name but I completely blanked on it after a few pounders of Montucky's delicious brew). I had the pretzel bites and full-size Caesar salad, and it was more than enough food for me. My friends each got different items; the pierogies looked delicious (maybe it is obvious that I am a fan of appetizers; it's my favorite section of any restaurant menu). Some of us weren't able to finish everything, as the portions were much larger once you started on them than when first eye-balling them. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this visit. I was disappointed at first that my friends wanted to go somewhere other than where we'd been last time, but all concerns melted away once we got to our seats. Bethlehem Barrel & Drafthouse offers some cool atmosphere along with a good selection of drinks, both beer and liquor, and friendly service (thanks again, Shaq! And my apologies if I got your name wrong!).

After watching an athletic event at nearby Lehigh University, my dining companion and I stopped in…read morefor a late dinner at ZEST bar+grille and it proved to be the perfect conclusion to our day -- with an excellent ambiance, elevated cuisine, and stellar service. It's a terrific spot in downtown Bethlehem for a cocktail, a light bite, or a full meal with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Located on the 6th floor of the Gateway Building in downtown Bethlehem, the restaurant features an inviting atmosphere alongside phenomenal panoramic views of the arts district and the historic Bethlehem Steel site. Since we arrived later in the evening, we opted to split a selection of appetizers, including the Crab & Mango Spring Rolls ($14), a small plate of three spring rolls served alongside a tasty coconut curry remoulade; Crispy Chickpeas ($9), a phenomenal, very generously-sized bowl of slightly crisped chickpeas dusted with sea salt and vegan feta cheese; Root Beer Glazed Pork ($16), an absolute standout recommended by our server -- an incredibly tender filet of pork belly glazed with root beer gastrique, served alongside a crisp red cabbage slaw and grilled bread; and Grilled Broccolini ($8), which was cooked perfectly with just a slight char and topped with a generous amount of compound butter. The kitchen definitely knows what they're doing with additional points awarded for the tasty vegan/dairy free options on the menu.. Beyond the exceptional food and the spectacular backdrop, what truly stood out was the hospitality. Kudos to our server, John, whose spot-on recommendations and attentive care made our late-night visit feel completely unhurried and thoroughly enjoyable. Whether you're visiting Lehigh University or Penn State Lehigh Valley, catching an event at ArtsQuest or the Wind Creek Bethlehem Resort, or simply looking for an outstanding meal with one of the best views in the Lehigh Valley, ZEST delivers on every level. Highly recommended! PRO TIP: Parking for ZEST is available at the New Street Parking Garage (@ 324 South New Street). Park on Level 3, 4, or 5 of the garage and use the covered pedestrian bridge access into the Gateway Building, then take the building elevator straight up to the 6th floor where ZEST is located. When the weather is cooperative, you can park on Level 7 of the garage and use the open-air pedestrian bridge to walk directly to ZEST. The garage is only $3, but ZEST offers a 2-hour parking validation for guests.

We had the choice of inside or outside seating. I chose outside because it was warm beautiful evening outside. And, Inside the ac is still on and I get very cold easily. I was freezing as soon as I walked in, so I easy decision for me. We had the artisanal bread app which comes with 2 different flavored butters (my favorite was the lemon/citrus one. my husband liked the green, which i think may have been a pesto but I'm not sure.). Or also came with a delicious EVOO dip. Had our Cesar salads with THE BEST croutons I've ever had! And I do not normally eat croutons because they are usually way too hard and crunchy. Seriously, these croutons were the perfect blend of crispy outside & buttery inside, seasoned perfect. Next our meals. I ordered the mushroom risotto and added a side of shrimp. Was a bit disappointed that meant i only got 2 shrimp for the extra money. They were large shrimp, but i would've preferred medium shrimp & to have a few more instead. The egg in the risotto was odd to me, so I can't comment on that as I didn't eat it. But the meal was so flavorful & delicious! My husband got the pasta special of the day- chicken parm with pasta. Expecting a boneless piece of chicken, so image his surprise that it was a chicken quarter with bones. Not bad, just unexpected. He enjoyed his food as well. Staff was attentive & service was great. The patio was nice. I was glad we were seated towards the windows because of the huge spiders that are by the seats by the edge. Overall, although expensive, great experience & we would return.
