Watch out with the meat prices, are not display, then when you pay they overcharged you with some stupid rules, like if you choose the pieces on display they charged you extra without say anything to the customer... Big Surprise!! This was last time I shopped in this store.. Band of Crooks...

The store is clean and well stocked for the most part although there are items missing every time I go. The biggest problem is The Wi-Fi. This matters because we store all the grocery list on their app and when you're in the store, their Wi-Fi sucks. It's unreliable and all the coupons are digital which means you have to have Wi-Fi to be able to save the coupon while you're there. I mean it used to be horrific and now it's only bad. I was able to go to the front of the store and get a signal and get onto my app, but it's less than ideal and they're aware of it and they've been aware of it For over a year. And don't tell me it's not fixable because that's bullshit. In my opinion, the best option is Shoprite, which is a first class store. You feel like you're at a high-end store but paying regular supermarket prices.

Selection can be a little limiting because they only sell their own products. The prices are very fair although my only general criticism is, I do not like paying per unit for fruit and vegetables. But that seems to be common these days. Pricing is very reasonable. Very well run store. MUCH BETTER than Acme.

The produce section has a good selection and variety, a good nut and dried fruit section, frozen and junk food selection. They sell cheaply priced bouquets of flowers but it's cheap for a reason and I never really like their flower groupings. Some of my favorite products are the rainbow carrots, sugar snap peas, arugula. They sell sugar snap peas almost exclusively, hard to find in other grocery stores. Other than these items, the selection is identical to what other stores sell, both organic and regular. If you like hot sauce, the Green Dragon hot sauce is delicious and really well-balanced, sweet, acidic, spicy and fruity. I wish they could make a milder version. They have one cheese that's also insanely good but cannot remember which one it is. The people at the register are pleasant and the store is always bustling, however it's soul-crushing on weekends, esp. since Fairway closed, a lot of the residents who live down in the rental buildings now come here for their shopping and it's always mobbed. They have an extensive frozen food section and fun selection of cookies, chocolate and junk/snack food items. There's one doggy treat that my since adopted foster doggy went ballistic over -- he loved this one particular snack but can't remember the name. It had a softer chewy texture and was made with beef and sweet potato and came in a little pouch. He became googly eyed over these treats. The one thing I really don't like are their chocolates. I don't like any of their chocolate products, they're not tempered and are not refined tasting. Parking can be trauma-inducing but I've always found a spot. Just keep going around the loop and you'll find a spot. And if you're looking for the little tote bags, they have piles of them in all colors in front of the customer service desk as of 12/26/25.

This review is an emotional outpouring…read more Stew Leonard's (SL) has been a part of my life for 55 years. I first came to this store soon after it opened, when it was much smaller and the only SL store. I now live a few hours away from any of the stores, but 2 SL shopping bags are among those my family uses regularly. I still go here and to other SLs when it's opportune, and the close relationship between SL and my family culminated when, upon his passing, SL SR. was placed a few strides away from my parents at Willowbrook Cemetery (rated 5). Over the years our family developed a close personal connection with the store. My mother became good friends with the head chef there (the prepared foods are excellent--I still always get the ambrosia salad when I'm there!). Sorry I don't recall his name. He was there from at least the mid 90s to the early 2000s. As my mother grew older we started having increasing numbers of SL items as side dishes at our holiday meals. In 2001 when she died we had SL provide the whole Thanksgiving dinner. I recall going in and speaking to the head chef, informing him of my mother's passing. He said he had wondered what had happened to her and missed her. The connection between our family and the store grew with my wife and kids. When we got engaged I got my wife's parents a SL gift basket, complete with Elsa the cheese cow. We would all visit this store and some of the others while traveling, enjoying the ice cream on site and bringing non-perishables back home, as well as apple cider in season--we'd bring the coolers for that. I don't know if my mother ever met either the Senior or Junior proprietor. I won't say I 'met' either of them, but I did encounter them both together once. There were no intros, and it was brief and terse. It was early summer 1979 or '80; like many college students, I thought SL would be a good summer 'gig'. I went to apply and found no parking spaces, but saw another parking lot across the street. I parked there and two men, one old one young, both dressed business formal, went walking past. The older one asked why I was parking there. I noticed the SL employee-only sign only then; I said I was going to apply for a job. He insisted there were none available. I started to say I would like to just leave an application, but he cut me off, saying again "there are no jobs!" [Please continue reading in the review space for the Stew Leonard's store in Danbury. It feels hidden in the sense that you could drive right past it and miss it, but once you find it, it is absolutely worth it. There is parking out front which is a plus. Inside, it is exactly what you would expect from a classic mom and pop Italian deli. Small, warm, welcoming, decently lit, and clean. They also have a huge menu with tons of options, not even counting everything available at the deli counter. I took my time looking over the menu and the staff was patient while I decided. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese with black pepper on a wedge and a bacon, egg, and cheese lightly toasted on white bread. The wedge was the highlight. Big portion, very filling, and everything tasted fresh and high quality. It was cooked and put together really well. My only small critique is that the bread was very soft and the eggs were falling out a bit, but I also did not ask for it toasted so that may be on me. The bacon, egg, and cheese on white bread was good as well. The only downside was that it was very lightly toasted, almost not toasted at all, and it used bacon pieces instead of strips. Overall, this is an excellent local deli with quality food, generous portions, and a welcoming feel. I would definitely recommend stopping by, and I will absolutely be back.
