La Mansión del Sol is a small, family-owned and operated boutique hotel with an old-world, rustic elegance and charm. The mansion was probably built in the 1940's. Now, it is a 22-room hotel with traditional furnishings, wood floors, rooms decorated with various kinds of Mexican art, pottery, etc. The garden is absolutely beautiful featuring fountains, shaded sitting areas, a well-kept lawn, and loads of flowers... I especially admired the huge gardenia the size of a small tree simply covered with fragrant blooms.
La Mansión del Sol is located on the corner of Cuautémoc and Moctezuma, only four blocks (walking distance) from the Plaza del Sol shopping mall, as well as many other shops and eateries.
Amenities include free WiFi, free delicious hot breakfast in either the gorgeous dining room adjacent to the garden or patio dining. Each room has a safe, large flat screen TV's, cable, coffee maker, bottled water, plenty of linens, comfy pillows, air-conditioning, gym, sauna, steam room.
The staff is very friendly, and there is good security. To enter the hotel, simply buzz the doorbell so they can see who is there through the camera. The person in charge can let you in. Parking is limited.
I have stayed here three times, twice in the same room downstairs, and once upstairs. The construction is old, the downstairs room was just slightly musty. However, the fact that it was raining every day probably contributed to that. Repairs have been done, and I noticed only a few small details that needed some renovation. My room was very clean. The bathroom had both a walk-in shower and a large bathtub.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and the price was excellent. You'd pay three to five times more in the USA for anything close. read more
