Hotel De Mendosa is located in the historic center of Guadalajara, just a few steps away from Plaza de Liberacion and a variety of classic older buildings. The hotel itself is a reconstituted nunnery and sits alongside a beautiful church. The building details are superb with lots of Mexican woodwork throughout the hotel and plenty of local artist's works on the walls everywhere you look. The rooms were smallish, but once again the attention to detail made them not only comfortable but beautiful as well. During our stay, we never had to try to get the air conditioner working, but the temperature was only warm, not hot, so it was not a problem. The rooms all seem to overlook the pool area on the main level that features a hot tub as well as a rain fountain that creates that cooling sensation of water falling like rain. I suspect that the fountain is a psychological cooler during the hotter summer months. The staff was great and most of them spoke fluent English, for those of you who don't speak Spanish. And there was plenty of staff if you needed them. The room maids will come in every day unless you tell them otherwise, getting new towels was never a problem. On the main level, the hotel offered its own restaurant experience which I highly recommend for at least one of the nights you stay there. Good food served in an elegant main dining room all at reasonable prices makes this an easy choice for dinner. Keep in mind that you are just a few steps away from Plaza de Liberacion and all that this historical center has to offer, including lots of other restaurants. The hotel's proximity to the historic center of Guadalajara makes it easy to walk all around the area which has a lot to offer. Several large, old churches, Teatro Degollado (a famous old theater still in use), many different statues commemorating some of Guadalajara's past founders and leaders, lots of street stalls with the typical Mexican crafts and even a gigantic three-story mall dedicated to jewelry sales. Plus there is a cafe or restaurant on almost every block. I don't recommend drinking the tap water, but the food was good everywhere I ate, even the small street stands. For those of you visiting from the States or Canada, all the pricing will seem like a fire sale, so don't forget to tip. The rooms were very reasonable, around $60/night including taxes with a nice dinner at the in-house restaurant setting you back $15-20 for two. Guadalajara is a beautiful city (I'm talking about the Centro Historico) and from this location, it's easy to explore most of it on foot. Highly recommended.

Our flight arrived early, and the hotel was able to accommodate us with an early check-in around 11:00 a.m., which was greatly appreciated after traveling. The hotel felt very safe throughout our stay. Since it was hosting the South Korean national team, there was additional security, road closures, and a noticeable National Guard and police presence, which added to the sense of security. As a Marriott Platinum member, we received complimentary breakfast vouchers each morning. The breakfast buffet offered a good variety of options, and there were also à la carte items available for an additional charge. The room was comfortable for two adults. Our view overlooked a nearby apartment complex on the east side, so it wasn't anything special, but it wasn't an issue since we spent most of our time exploring the city. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was its excellent location. It was an easy walk to Expo Guadalajara, where the official World Cup shuttle buses departed for Estadio Akron, making transportation to World Cup matches very convenient. One unexpected highlight was finding a hot dog and hamburger cart near the OXXO on the northeast side of the hotel after looking for late-night tacos. The food was surprisingly good and worth checking out if you're hungry after the nearby restaurants have closed. The only disappointing part of our stay was the bar experience. The bartender was not particularly welcoming. On two separate occasions, he approached us to tell us that outside food and drinks were not allowed in the common seating area near the bar. While I understand the policy, the interactions felt unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome. One night we ordered two drinks while watching a World Cup match at the bar, and the bill came to about 600 pesos, which felt overpriced for what we received. One thing to keep in mind is the price. During the World Cup, rates were close to $1,000 USD per night, which I don't think would have been worth paying out of pocket. Fortunately, we redeemed Marriott Bonvoy points, making the stay an excellent value. Overall, I would stay here again if I'm ever in the area. Helpful front desk staff, comfortable accommodations, and the Platinum breakfast benefit. If the bar service were friendlier and the drink prices more reasonable, it would have been an easy five-star stay.

The room was serviced daily, which we appreciated; however, toiletries and teas were not replenished, which was a bit disappointing. One noticeable drawback was the front desk staff, who consistently avoided eye contact and never greeted guests when entering or exiting the lobby -- it made the atmosphere feel less hospitable than expected. Also worth noting: the hotel does not have a pool. If that's something important to you, be sure to check in advance. On a brighter note, the bed was exceptionally comfortable -- the mattress and pillows were truly dreamy. I haven't slept that well in a hotel, not even at The Ritz or Mandarin Oriental! As a brand marketed as a "sports lifestyle" hotel, they definitely deliver on providing great rest and recovery. Kudos to them for that!

Yes, maybe a little of traffic, but what do expect? The rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable. They had a beautiful display of past Mexican icons for Day of the Dead in the lobby. They also had a rooftop pool, but I cannot comment on it since we were pretty busy exploring the town and never made it up there. I would say I would definitely stay here again. Very historical. Had to stand in line again to be checked in and finally got a room. Front end staff are awful, not attentive, friendly or helpful. The room is a bit less than what you expect of an AC but comfortable and ours was clean. The breakfast at the restaurant and the staff made up for the unpleasant welcome. The staff at the pool area were good too. Food was good there as well, but it gets loud since you are right next to the pool and loungers. Location was okay, but not withing walking distance to places. You will need to take and Uber or taxi if you want to venture out. I will not consider this hotel for the future and will find a better location.

The staff was great and the room was comfortable although not ready at time i was told. I arrived at 1000 and knew the room wouldnt be ready so i left luggage with bellman and they said 3-4 hours itd be ready. I came back after my tour at 3 and room still wasnt ready. I pressed them and magically room was ready. I tipped them for their efforts as i was tired from traveling and just wanted any room at that point. Only issues were the elevators were small, old and slow. Also, be careful of having bellman help you with luggage when arriving to these hotels. Not just this one but any of them. I dont mind tipping but i can handle my own luggage and find my own suite. Id come back here to stay.
