Dirty wine glasses were not replaced in the bedroom by housekeeping. The complimentary breakfast consisted of overly sweet, unhealthy, cheap premade pastries. The safe was broken in our bedroom. The elevator also broke during our stay. There were no bikes available to rent as we were told they were in poor condition and not rideable. Then, we were advised by the front desk to go to a bike shop nearby, however that store ended up being closed for the day. We were told the manager would call us regarding a partial refund due to the terrible stay we endured. However, no attempt was made to contact us. She was not at the hotel all weekend and finally mid-week was reachable after calling the hotel for a 3rd time. She told us she would make a request to Hotels.com for a refund but when I contacted Hotels.com 2+ weeks later, I was told no request for a refund was found. I could have never dreamt of a more terrible stay at a hotel.

The meal was typical banquet food. It was ok but nothing great. The hours' de overs served during the cocktail hour was fairly typical. I did enjoy the cheeses plate a lot. They included blu cheese which is a little unusual on a cheese plate but was very tasty. The decor was nice with center pieces consisting of seasonal poinsettias on each table. The service was very good as well. All in all, it was a nice event, but if I was planning something I would probably look for something with a little more affordable drink selection.

I had my wedding reception at the Princeton Elks Lodge. First, in response to John P's review…read more Typically it is the event organizer who sets the drink prices and decides on catering. At least in my experience with the Elks Club we could have chosen between cash bar, open bar, or limited bar. There was also the option to have the Elks provide the alcohol or you could provide your own alcohol. The only requirement is that you hire their bar tenders to work the event. This is related to their liquor license. I would think this $5 drink price was decided upon by the event organizer, not the Elks Club. Though I don't know the details of the event John attended. As far as the food, I do know that the Elks do sometimes cater their own events (e.g. their open mic nights). However, for outside events typically a cater is brought in by the individual or group organizing the event. So the food at each event is not reflective of the Elks Club but more so the outside cater. As I stated above, we had our wedding reception here. The aspects which sold us on the Elks was affordability, flexibility, and personal attention. As far as reception venues go this place was affordable, I believe it was the cheapest we found for what it offered. We wanted to have a fairly laid back reception and didn't want to spend a fortune. There is a bar, food serving area, dance floor, and a dinning area. In terms of flexibility, they also allow you to choose your own cater and bring in your own alcohol and food. This was important to us as we provided some of our own desserts which were special to us. We also had some folks who had dietary restrictions and we wanted to make sure they could be taken care of. They also had a generous cancelation policy in case we wanted to cancel the event. I don't recall the exact time frame to cancel but when we first put a deposit we weren't sure that we were going to have the event here as we had just started looking at venues. Ellen, who is the treasure of the Elks, also manages their schedule and coordinates events. She was one of the nicest people I have ever met and she helped our event be a success. When we first visited the venue she spent plenty of time walking us around the property and discussing what we might want for our event. She offered advice on how to organize the event and what might work best. We talked about what the Elks Club could offer and the basic costs. This was great because planning a wedding can be very overwhelming and we didn't have any previous experience planning an event like this. She was also there the night of the event to ensure everything ran smoothly and troubleshoot if any problems arose. The rest of the Elks Club members were also very nice. In terms of the venue, it is certainly not the nicest or fanciest venue around but considering the price and everything else it is 5 stars!! For example, you have to be willing to have your guests walk in and see a large Elks head staring back at them (see photo). They could be some improvements or updates in the building but I really can't complain. None of my guests minded and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The staff were beyond helpful. Also there is a large parking lot if you have a lot of guests.

We celebrated our daughters first year anniversary rather than the traditional reception. Like so many weddings, our celebration was delayed a year. The tasting at Knowlton mansion was a perfect way to get excited about the wedding. I truly enjoyed sampling all the appetizers and entree choices. The cake and fillings were all amazing. My daughter, the bride, was well taken care of by the Bridal assistant, Danny. Danny offered champagne to us upon arrival. She was sweet and kind and helped us bustle my daughters dress which was no easy task! Not only did we enjoy the ballroom, but the bride gets full access to the upstairs rooms for changing, hair, makeup etc. there was an incredible stone wine cellar we took advantage of too. The attachment or extra space built at the side or back of the home is where you have catered events. This space is very large and can accommodate 200-300 people if not more. Hudson Table, PRINCETON -- Wednesday evening with friends for a HANDS-ON class themed "French…read moreSeafood Feast." It was far more hands-on than I expected, but absolutely terrific fun! We were provided with everything we needed in perfectly measured amounts, and the cookware, bowls, trays, and utensils were magnificent. Best of all, we didn't have to clean up a single thing -- there was staff for that -- which, in my mind, qualifies as luxurious cooking! This was a true cooking lesson for people of all skill levels. Hudson Table also offers Chef's Counter events (similar to a chef's tasting where they cook and serve you), Chef's Competition dinners and brunches (like the TV shows where two chefs receive the same basket of ingredients and separately create three-course meals for diners to judge), public dining events, children's classes, and private events. The three chefs were exceptionally kind, with Chef Shreve leading the evening's class. He began with a quick demonstration on proper knife handling and vegetable cutting techniques that proved useful not only for our prep that night, but for every future cooking session as well. I was especially awed by Chef Bryan, who managed to rescue a failed egg white whip that refused to reach stiff peaks or that cloud-like texture -- and then revived a stubborn egg yolk and sugar mixture that simply would not ribbon properly. In my own kitchen, I would have tossed everything out and started over! Instead, our Lemon Soufflé with Vanilla Bean and Lavender Crème Anglaise emerged absolutely perfect. Personally, I loved having three skilled professional chefs nearby to answer questions. I've cooked for 50 years but have never had formal culinary training, so I took every opportunity to absorb whatever knowledge I could. It was fantastic. Thanks, also, to Chef Steph for all her attention and helpfulness. The other dishes were very good, though Hudson Table is still relatively new to the area, and everyone is clearly still settling in. It appeared the chefs may not have worked with these printed recipes before, and a few of the instructions seemed to be missing -- such as covering the pot after adding live mussels to the steaming bouillabaisse. From family experience, I know that without a lid, the mussels take far too long to open and can easily become rubbery from overcooking. There were also one or two ingredients the staff had to scramble to locate. Even so, the chefs were fabulous leaders in the kitchen and capably guided all 16 to 20 participants through the evening. I should also add that the ingredients in every dish were top quality and measured with precision. Five friends and I were so impressed that we already booked reservations for the Chef's Counter event in two weeks. Bring it on! So, here's the menu rundown: * Frisée & Endive Salad with Brioche Croutons, Goat Cheese, Pears, and Dijon Vinaigrette Fresh, balanced, and lovely. * Mussel & Halibut Bouillabaisse with Toasted Baguette This recipe needs a little tweaking. We found the broth somewhat underwhelming in flavor. When I make bouillabaisse at home, guests literally fill cups to take the broth home -- or stand in my kitchen dunking crusty Italian bread into the pot until not a drop remains. * Lobster Tail Thermidor A rich, classic preparation with excellent use of cognac and lobster stock. Very indulgent by today's standards... but DEEEELICIOUS. * Roasted Vegetable Ratatouille Another recipe that could benefit from a small adjustment. The eggplant cubes were still somewhat undercooked even after nearly an hour of roasting. Simply stirring the vegetables two or three times during roasting would redistribute the liquid collecting at the bottom of the pan and help prevent the top layer from drying out while ensuring more even cooking. * Lemon Soufflé with Vanilla Bean and Lavender Crème Anglaise FAAAABULOUS. No photos of this dessert because it disappeared too quickly -- but it will absolutely star at my next dinner party!
