Tonight we ordered chicken fajitas and omg, peppers onions and the chicken were all overcooked and under seasoned! We also ordered the queso with chips both tasted old/stale. We pull in and they appear to be fairly busy. Walk in an immediately get seated. Get a minute to look at the drinks available which is like all other Mexican restaurants. Our drinks come right away and we are ready to order. We didn't have time to get a conversation off the ground when our food comes out, it had to have been 5 minutes or less. I am definitely a fan of La Isla! A couple of friends and I recently spent the weekend in Lawrenceburg and decided to hit up La Isla for dinner, and I was so glad that we did! We started with a round of margaritas and they were delicious. They had plenty of tequila, without being too strong. I also liked that they were garnished with both lemon and lime. We skipped over appetizers to enjoy the chips and salsa, but the salsa was really tasty. I opted for a chicken dish with strips of chicken over a bed of rice smothered in queso. It was delicious! There was so much queso, and it was great! I also got a side of refried beans and some flour tortillas to make some mini burritos and everything was awesome. We ended our meal with churros, which were cooked perfectly. They were crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The service was good, La Isla has an attentive staff. The atmosphere is similar to most other casual Mexican restaurants, with brightly colored decor. And the food was awesome! If you're in the Lawrenceburg area I definitely recommend La Isla for lunch or dinner! read more

If you are at all familiar with Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, then you know it is a tiny little podunk town that has absolutely nothing to offer in the way of dining, entertainment, intellectual stimulation, etc. However, sometimes I am so tired on the weekends while visiting the fam that when it's time to eat I don't even have it in me to venture the 15 minutes into Frankfort where there are a least a few decent dining options. While the 'Burg has wayyyy too many Mexican restaurants (seriously, for a town this size, they have like six Mexican restaurants within 5 miles of one another), I think La Isla stands out as very good. Located in a former Hardee's building, it has done so well and gotten such a loyal following despite its competition, that they had even expanded, and have a nice little outdoor seating area (this is adventurous and upscale for the 'Burg). La Isla offers the usual in way of chips and salsa, gratis. Nothing out of the ordinary here. We usually just order whatever grilled sizzling meat there is, smothered in excessive cheese, served with beans and sides of rice with more cheese. The food is your usual Americanized Mexican fare. But, it is very cheap, tasty and fresh and the portions are ridiculously generous (I always get the Pollo Monterey + grilled jalapeños - yummy). The staff are always very friendly, and I have not had any issues with the cleanliness (rare for me). read more

Took my Mother and sister with ten other people from my family to eat. I think that big parties are a little hard on them. As our food was slow to come out. Which is expected. If you want cheap and good. This is your place. As for flavor your getting sub par food. The steak was okay. The avocado bland and no taste. The salsa was okay. Had a bite to it. Then after your first taste you can't taste anything else. I will give them props for the margaritas they are good. Also the server doesn't know the difference between strawberry Jarrito and a fruit punch Jarrito. I guess knowing the menus is optional. I asked the server why he brought that out and he said it was the same. yes.... yes it is. So I should ask for a steak and they can bring me out a chicken sandwich which is the same correct? Growing up in Kentucky, I was never a fan of Mexican food. While I have some nostalgia for Chi-Chi'a, and giggle now that I know what it means in Spanish, it took moving away to Texas to become a fan because I found out what good Mexican and Tex-Mex foods were supposed to be like. La Isla gets it right. The food is always good regardless of which dish I've tried. The atmosphere is nice and the expansion much needed. I've never experienced the service problems others have but I hope that hasn't become the norm. Even then, hopefully a few friendly comments from customers will steer it in the right direction because Lawrenceburg doesn't have many good options.
