Best spot to go have Dinner great food and best Margaritas I have gone like 4 times still great food

I used to come here before atleast twice a month apparently something happened with the owners and the staff not sure if the owners did something but all staff was let go and new staff was rehired. The food taste very good specifically Arrachera meat but the service OMG!!! i came 4 times really! tried giving it a chance all 4 times they messed up on our orders. the staff seems like they are forced to work there the food still taste good but the service was so bad and poor never asked if we needed refills on drinks or other items they even served our plates WITHOUT!! utensils until we asked for utensils. The staff was just on their phones they would see our cups empty and wouldnt even ask if we needed refills the guy i believe he;s management he was very nice and provided free drinks because they messe dup our order and never brought 3 appetizers we ordered but after that initial visit i gave it three more chances and unfortunately same waters and only one guy making salsa for ALL tables. Honestly the experience is so bad good tasteful food is not worth even trying which is really sad. Dont know what the owners are thinking keeping this horrible staff!. BTw the ambience is really nice but unfortunately just overall aggravating experience and it aint cheap either. read more

I was in love with this place the minute that I stepped in. The service was magnificent and the food was divine. At first you are seated and then a service comes to you and prepares a delicious salsa de molcajete in front of you. I ordered the arrachera and it was delicious. The meat was very flavor. Everything here was delicious, next time we're definitely ordering more beans on the side, more flour tortillas, and more in-house made salsa de molcajete (not pictured, not to be confused with the pico de gallo next to my plate) to go. My boyfriend and I always talk about how we still crave and think about that salsa de molcajete , The waiter asks you exactly how spicy you want it, what kind of chiles you want, fresh or grilled onion, cilantro etc. Highly highly recommend. My family and I stumbled upon this place while this other restauraunt we wanted to go to was closed. We are so happy we did This place is unique it's style of Mexican food. Everything is made with the grill in mind. The tableside salsa was fantastic, the queso fundido amazing, their take on a caprese salad was top notch and the entrees to die for. Our server didn't speak much English and we don't speak much Spanish but the service was amazing. We had the queso dish with poblano peppers and the chips and homemade tortillas were to die for. We got the meat platter with a combination of steak that serves 3 to 4 people and left a very full happy and with a good amount of leftovers. Didn't know what to expect. Sometimes the reviews don't add up to the hype. In this case it did! Driving up the driveway we were amazed by this hole in the wall restaurant. As you walk into the courtyard of the restaurant your blessed with the sound of mariachi music & the smell of steaks being grilled. As we were seated, the waiter brings out tortilla chips & freshly made salsa made to order right in front of you. The salsa was so flavorful, it almost seemed as if my tastebuds were dancing for joy after every bite haha. My family and I decided to go for the family steak platter that included ribeye, t-bone, arrachera, side order of grilled veggies, grilled potatoes in a butter cream sauce, beans cooked in chorizo, freshly made corn & flour tortillas. We had a fantastic dinner here. They made the salsa tableside with roasted tomates so it is very fresh tasting and the perfect amount of chunky. The tequila mushrooms were so good! We also ordered the barbacoa, extra tortillas, and basically just made our own tacos. So tasty! Really welcoming atmosphere, I enjoyed sitting outside. I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that perhaps we went on an off night. The salsa was good as has been established, but so was the salsa we had everywhere in Ensenada. But our steaks were raw. We asked for them to be cooked more, and they were, but this got them barely up to medium rare. After realizing we'd eaten some of the raw pieces before asking for more cooking, I spent a restless night terrified we'd get sick. Fortunately we didn't. Tried it once, won't be back. We came to this place because of all the good reviews... and the food was TERRIBLE!!! Let's start with the chips, by far one the worst I've ever had, soaked in oil, soggy... just plain bad. The drinks were bottled "aguas frescas" horrible! Come on... you can't be a "authentic" Mexican steakhouse and serve bottled aguas frescas. Wow, this place is amazing. The food is so authentic and the salsa they make at your table is perfection (it's spicy though). My Spanish is rough and none of the waiters spoke English very well so we ended up pointing to things on the menu that we wanted. We ordered the ribeye steak, the empanada and bone marrow. The table comes with free chips and salsa. All of that was about $37 USD and for 2 people it was more than enough food. The bone marrow plate came with 5 bone marrow and we had trouble finishing it there was so much (not complaining). I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a local steakhouse. read more

Amazing grilled foods and even better service. Started with a perfect Mexican margarita (ie not too sweet like the US ones) and guac. Then hubby had smoked quail and I had arachera and both were exceptional. Prices are great and servings are large. Cool outdoor rustic setting. We went here based on all of the good reviews. The homemade salsa and chips were awesome. The service was very good. The atmosphere was very cozy but the live music was too loud. The quesadillas were very good and the cheese was very flavorful. The steak dishes we ordered were OK, but the flavor wasn't as good as we were expecting based on the reviews and the steak was pretty gristly. I wouldn't order any of them again. The tuna dinner was not good at all and did not appear to be very fresh so it ended up not being eaten and taken home to not offend the staff. Based on our experience I would rate this restaurant average to below average and would not order any of the same dishes except the quesadillas. The staff and service was very good. read more

But as you walk Into rear of the restaurant it opens up to rustic barn like interior with simple benches and massive grill on one end. It feels like a barn at a ranch. Steaks were amazingly tender and cooked right, served with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. tomato salad would have been better, if bit more ripened. Parking is limited with street parking, Uber would be an ideal mode of transportation, but We used google map to navigate GPS functions without problem. This is a tale of two visits. Earlier in the year year, in January, we came here and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience. We couldn't wait to come back, but... December was different. My daughter had skirt steak and it was delicious! My other daughter had roast suckling pig. It came out with hot crispy skin but cold flesh. We sent it back and when it returned the meat was as hot as the skin. Ended up good. My wife had chicken in mole sauce. The chicken looked like jerky and my wife confirmed it was dry and over-cooked. There was a paucity of mole sauce on the chicken. Mole is a staple of our dining-out options and this just didn't stack up, at all! I had chile in nogado sauce. I had it last year. It was delicious...last year. This year the chile wasn't good...it was barely cooked, the filling was lukewarm and the sauce was cold. None of this was true last year. I realize nogado sauce can be served at room temperature, but COLD? The flavors were great, but everything else was so far removed from what I had one year ago that it was a bit of a shock. Overall, we were disappointed. We will be back to Ensenada, but I just don't know whether this establishment will be on our list of "go to" restaurants.
