The Chips & queso: was quite the delight of the meal! The queso could have been more aggressively seasoned, but the thickness was perfect and the chips were clearly fresh and quite thin, crisp. The salsa rojo was also good with the chips. Tres sopes with chicken were disappointing as they were bland, chewy, and dry. In fact, chewy bland dry chicken was the theme of the meal. Chicken chimichanga tasted pretty good, albeit a little chewy. I liked the refried beans and the black beans well enough to scrape them clean. read more

Just ok Mexican food the tortilla didn't taste fresh and it just didn't taste that good I had carne asad tacos and a side of rice and beans the rice and beans were the smallest I've ever had at a taco place. The margaritas are perfect here! Delicious, well balanced flavors. I could not wait for dinner after my drink! We are here in on a Saturday night August and the outdoor area was so pretty. The waitress was new but lovely and got our order perfectly. Initially I was worried seeing a restaurant so empty at 7:30 on a Saturday but I was pleasantly surprised by the marg so I thought I can't wait for the food. Unfortunately that's where things fell apart, I ordered carnitas, my go to everywhere. It was flavorless. I was really surprised. My sister order a meal with chicken and her chicken was flavorless too. Neither of us wanted to get a to go box. We wanted to love this place. They have everything but the food dialed in. The charge for a second basket of chips was strange but I think if they were freshly made in house it would make more sense. Friday afternoon not too busy. We had 4 waitresses in the process of ordering and no one seemed to take charge of helping us. Finally an older employee took our order. We waited 20-30 minutes and our waitress came back and asked if we would like anything else.....we advised her we still hadn't gotten our nachos (simple order ..chips/chicken/jalapenos/cheese....heat and bam) no flavor....the place got real busy and it seemed we were totally overlooked! La Hermosa is a great choice for standard Mexican fare. The dining room is large, clean, and comfortable. The friendly staff takes pride in presenting the dishes; the items we tried were fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced. The chips were fresh, and the salsa was thick and tasty. The Camarones a la Diabla, cooked shrimp in hot salsa, beans, rice, and a side of 3 homemade tortillas, was tasty. The wait staff quickly provided a bowl of extra hot salsa to bump up the heat. The Ceviche with shrimp marinated in lime, mixed with cucumber, cilantro, onion, tomato, avocado, and jalapeño was delicious and filling. This place has to be the best Mexican food in Minnesota! They make their own tortillas, have incredible and authentic recipes, and they offer a casual and unpretentious setting. lets start with good, restaurant was clean..end of list bad, super slow service, wrote kids menu out on a piece of paper. nobody seemed to know what was going on and we had to ask multiple times for chips and salsa and also had to tell them that we wanted to get drinks like Pepsi, they never asked they sat us and walked away, little kids behind the counter with no food protection. we had to get up and search out waitress to get refills even though it is Saturday at lunch time and only one other family in the restaurant. last but not least extremely pricey for low level food. read more

Awful. I sit down and order a drink along with chips and salsa. I am brought in a dirty plastic basket that has a total of EIGHT stale, cold chips. After finishing I ask if I can have more chips and salad and was told "yes, but it will cost extra." Oh, okay... thanks, but no thanks. I wanted to order the shrimp tacos and they had a house made chipotle peanut sauce on them. Not knowing what that would taste like, I ordered the Shrimp Burrito and asked if I could just sample the sauce should I want to order the tacos in the future. My server went and asked and then came back and said "okay, is that all?" So I said, "Yes, just the burrito and if I can try the sauce I would appreciate it." My burrito comes and it is delicious! One of the better shrimp burritos I have ever had. The chipotle peanut sauce was fantastic! I would order both again. And then I waited... and waited... and waited. No server came back to fill my water, ask how my food was, ask if I was ready to pay... nothing. I got up to find a server to pay myself and she said "Have a nice night." To which I told her I needed to pay. She ran my card and I tipped and when my receipt printed I discovered that I was charged $1.29 for a sample of the sauce. So, no more than 8 chips allowed and no sauce samples, unless you want to pay for them, I won't return. There are much better options for Mexican food where you don't get Nickle and dimed and your servers are actually present and aware. It's too bad because the burrito was excellent. Service: This is a family run (i.e., family cooks, serves, cleans, etc.) business. I saw other reviews complain about slow service, but that was not my experience at all. I found the service friendly and responsive, especially considering there were only two people visibly working on a Saturday afternoon. The place was clean, the staff was friendly and checked on me multiple times, the chips/salsa and beer came out in less than 2 minutes, and the main food came out in less than 10 minutes. Our food arrived quickly and fresh. The salsas were savory and flavorful. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients used to make these authentic foods. I would try this place again someday, but takeout only because the service was terrible. Barely any customers were dining in and dirty dishes were left everywhere, our food took forever, and we were never checked on after receiving our food. We couldn't even ask the waitress for refills or the check when the time came because she was running around to ever corner of the building. We ended up walking to the front register and just standing there until we could pay. Like hi, yes it's us, the ones that sat over there for over an hour... So lesson learned, don't order anything spicy because you probably won't get a refill! read more

Came across La Hermosa when lost and straggled into Chaska. We received a nice welcome and received their lunch menu that was well priced and varied. I went with the Mexican salad (with steak...see photo). It arrived in a short time and was clearly THE BEST I've had in years. The shell was homemade and the interesting mix of fresh ingredients was fresh and attractive. This is no "standard" recipe and it was obvious great care was taken in creating the dish. Really well done by the owner/operator couple (and other family members)! I have seldom use3 the term "hidden gem" because lots of others have enjoyed the restaurant and it's located in a pleasant town. But this is definitely a place worth getting off the highway to visit. And for me, I'll make a trip to enjoy it again. The owners are active and interact with guests...a huge plus that would serve as a good lesson for those who try to manage from afar or closed in an office. I grew up in Chaska & the last time I was here was when it was Embers. And OH. MY. GOSH.Talk about authenticity! We ordered jalapeño cheese dip, shrimp tacos & carnitas chimichanga. From the tortilla all the way down to the water (yes water), everything was AMAZING! When it comes to Mexican food & water, I am VERY picky. Even the waitress said she absolutely loves the water lol! The tortillas aren't store bought where you would just slap it on a flat top. They're actually homemade & crispy! The shrimp/carnitas were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The peanut chipotle sauce that comes with the shrimp tacos is homemade & that right there... was phenomenal! I'm just speechless. I've been wanting to visit, as I've read many great reviews. The space is lovely with fresh flowers on the tables. The food and service were amazing. I was guided, after asking, through the menu, and encouraged to try some truly authentic Mexican dishes, as well as more "traditional" choices. I started with chips and salsa. I was able to make a unique platter consisting of a chicken enchilada, chicken verde taco, and their signature Gordita, with a side of rice. All were delicious. Also to be called out is the amazing house margarita, which tasted fresh made. I look forward to trying some of their signature margaritas upon my next visit! They brought a beer (Corona) that was expired by 3 months and the waitress was polite about bringing a different type but blamed it on the big corporate suppliers (really?). Our usual Mexican restaurant was closed for the day so we decided to try La Hermosa using Door Dash. I read the reviews on Yelp and kept reading about the homemade tortillas. Decided to try the shrimp tacos and steak fajitas. I was hesitant on the shrimp tacos as I am particular about freshness in seafood. The food arrived very quickly, 10 minutes earlier than estimated. Opened up the food containers and the tacos looked nice and fully stuffed. The chipotle sauce was so so. It was needing some flavor as I found it kind of bland and heavier on the Mayo side than I'd prefer . Regardless I used it along with the salsa verde. The tacos were some of the best I've had. The homemade tortilla makes a huge difference. The shrimp were fresh and weren't those skimpy ones. The shrimp were nice and large and each taco had 4 to 5 large shrimp, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Knowing the food traveled and sat for about 15 minutes, I can only imagine how it would have been fresh from the kitchen when indoor dining can be a thing again. The verde salsa had a great heat as many times it's not hot. A little goes a long ways. The steak fajitas, I would probs pass on as the meat was extremely chewy, thick cut, and bland. Some caramelized onions and salt could really improve flavor overall. I still give this place 5 starts as I would never expect every dish to be amazing. We will definitely be ordering again and trying other dishes. Also the rice was perfect. Fluffy and moist and cooked fresh. Nothing that seemed like it had been sitting or reheated.
