This is a very rare one star review from me. The fondue is God awful. The one you get in a box from the supermarket is far superior. The traditional fondue was so bland that I needed to dump a bunch of salt and pepper in it to make it palatable. The bread was terrible. We've been here a few times already and had good memories. The quality has gone downhill. $89 for 3 centimeters deep cheese yuck and some greasy meats. In all my years coming to Quebec City, this meal earns last place. The service was neglectful. Our server was chatty with other guests and hardly bothered to scan the restaurant for anyone needing something. We abandoned most of the food and left hungry. Lesson learned. Avoid! Even Melting Pot is better.

Incredible food, charming and cozy ambiance, polite service. Wish I lived in the area, I would frequent it often. Highly recommend!!

Came here with our 2 year old. Great food and fantastic authentic fondue. Family friendly and great atmosphere.

    Trio starting with Quebecois cheese.

We had three orders of the trio for a group of four, since we brought kids. We started the cheese, chose broth (over oil) for the meat, and loved the chocolate. The little salad with the meat was perfect and fresh. The meat came either gherkins, pearl onions and honey mustard, aioli, curry and maple sage sauce. This was a wonderful, perfectly paced meal.

It was AMAZING! We came for our special dinner and our server was amazing! Food was amazing and very filling. We had the fondue and it was filling for our family of 5. Ambianca was good but a little cramped in the front Room. Would definitely recommend.

Great place for some fondue right near old town Quebec. They menu is large and has fondue choices for everyone plus some main dishes if you don't like fondue. The service was great and very helpful and the place looked like an old Swiss restaurant which was nice. The taste was solid. We got the traditional cheese and the traditional meat fondue. Price was a little steep and weren't blown away. But overall pretty fun experience!

    Raclette and Bourgouignonne

Came to La Grolla during a long weekend trip to Montreal and Quebec City. The last time I had raclette I was in the Alpes, so it was definitely something I was looking forward to. The atmosphere at La Grolla is extremely cute, it basically looks like a little mountain house out of a Christmas movie. This would be the perfect place to visit for an intimate dinner with your partner. The menu offers a pretty wide selection of Raclettes, Fondues and Bourguignonnes so it may take you a little while to choose. In our case, we ordered the "Bourguignonne authentique" and the "Raclette Valaisanne". I think this is a good choice if you are visiting La Grolla as a party of 2. The menu is definitely on the pricier side, as we ended up spending $56pp and only ordered one drink for the table (a beer). I was full after eating the potatoes and ordering some bread, but definitely didn't come out of the restaurant overfilled.  Worth checking it out if you are in the area.

worth the wait as they opened for the night

First time visiting after my favorite Montreal fondue restaurant was shut down due to the events of the past two years no doubt. This eatery is a nice walk since it's only about 1.5km away from the Chateau Frontenac in the center of Quebec City. While dining, we met a couple from Maine on their date night. The servers made the evening enjoyable despite being potentially short handed. The meat broth fondue was very nice, while the Gruyère cheese cubes fondue wasn't bad,it wasn't as good as the Montreal spot I usually visit. On your way back into the city, some of the roads were open to pedestrians only.Where you can find dessert to bubble tea,or a night cap. The area is quite walkable.

Not many Yelp reviews but over (70) 4+ Star reviews on other sites. Based on that, stopped in and it was absolutely amazing! Two cheese fondue from Charlesvoix had a very mild Swiss cheese flavor. Learned they source it locally from the original owner of the restaurant. So nice! We ordered potatoes and mixed veges (mushrooms, peppers, onions, broccoli). Comes with bread. We cleaned the pot. So good. Local beers on tap and extensive wine list. Casual dress. Super friendly and helpful staff. A must stop for dinner if in town. Five + stars!

    Our wine was excellent.

We wanted an authentic restaurant, and we found it. From the decor, to the wine selection, to the food. Food portions were very generous. Defiantly highly recommend.

Absolutely adorable restaurant outside and inside. You feel like you're in a rabbit burrow. The decor is carefully thought out and charming. The pulled rabbit poutine was great with a mustard sauce instead of the brown gravy you usually get with poutine. The small appetizer poutine was already the perfect size to share along with our smoked duck winter salad and onion soup. Onion soup was made with ale and was covered in cheese. The only thing was that I wished the soup had more broth than cheese. But the onions were tender and cooked down thoroughly. The cheese pull you get is foot long! The broth had a depth of flavor that is not replicated elsewhere. I had the honey pie years ago and remembered that it was sweet, but very good. We didn't have room for dessert, but the maple amaretto creme brulee sounded amazing. All in all, a great meal everytime.

Personally, it was a treat for me trying out something different, but I do not think everyone would appreciate its almost raw meat and liver-like texture. The Tartare comes with fries, a salad, and crouton to round up the order. We upgraded the side of fries that came with the Tartare into their Tout Cochon poutine. I was happy with that option that way I was able to sample their house poutine without needing to dedicate a full meal order for it. I can say this was among the best poutines I have had. The gravy was rich and flavourful. The poutine was also loaded with a variety of different proteins like the Gaspor farm ham and the bacon-wrapped sausage. The perron cheese curds also perfectly topped off the whole dish. Our last order was the Quebec pork chop marinated and grilled with maple and tamari. It was served with apple chutney, sweet potato mash, and seasonal vegetables. It is exactly as you would expect with the ingredient details of the dish's name. You get a lot of different flavour profiles and textures with the meal order. Some saltiness with the pork chop then some sweetness with the apple chutney. Meaty tenderness with the pork chop, mushiness with the potato mash, and then some slightly crunchiness with the seasonal vegetables. We dined on Sunday lunchtime the day before Family Day. There were people waiting to be seated by the time we arrived, but fortunately our group of only 2 people has a table spot available so did not need to wait. Most of the items presented to me were things that I've never had before. My meal came with a complimentary glass of wine or beer. I picked red wine. I received a full bodied house red, which was a perfect choice. The split pea soup I picked was just a few degrees above room temperature upon arrival, and grew cold before I was half done. The peas had a firmness that would indicate they were undercooked. (Or perhaps that is how they are cooked here.) Either way, its texture was not to my liking. (No bread or roll was given). The main I picked was "Grandma's Treat" a combination of foods some of which were truly delightful. A slice of meat pie, meatballs, beans, vegetables, and pickled beets and onions (?). The meat pie was very good, not at all spicy with a flaky crust. The meatballs were my absolute favorite, served with small cooked potatoes in gravy. Delicious!! The beans were good, much like beans usually are. The mixed vegetables were string beans, carrots, and tomatoes on top of what appeared to be cooked purple cabbage (?). Good, but also barely room temperature. Included on my plate was something with which I am not familiar. A reddish purple pickled beets and onions (?) that was cool and slightly sweet. I enjoyed this a lot. Needless to say, the main course was a lot of food. I had to take my dessert to go. My choice, chocolate pie, was heavenly. The crust was crisp and it was served in a thin sweet red syrup of some sort. I'm certain it would have tasted even better at the restaurant. (I ate this pie later that evening after carrying it around, then refrigerating it, so it wasn't in its best form.) I am no expert on Canadian cuisine, but dining here was a nice addition to my exploration of Old Quebec City. I would recommend this restaurant.

It is incredibly simple, tasty food, focused on tracing back the traditions of people who inhabited Quebec when it was the capital of New France and later English conquest. The Pea Soup is a simple, yet perfectly executed first course. The meat pie is made in a style of home, plentiful meat with little of the pie crust. Maybe, not the easiest meal to eat, but satisfying. Simple green beans, some potatoes. Meat balls from Bison and Elk are flavorful. Boreal beers on draft are wonderful. Dessert of maple pie is a classic and one must be prepared for loads of sweetness. The team working here is kind, accommodating and attentive, although to be fair, they have been quite understaffed during the holidays Aux Anciens Canadiens is a place that undoubtedly belongs here. It is simple comfort food, situated in a historical home and serves the the kind that one would find in Grandma's kitchen.

The tradition of table-side cooking is something that has largely evaporated, probably for many understandable reasons that might range from catching someone's hair on fire to the complexity of making waiters become chefs. Yet, Le Continental kept it alive and fortunate guests have the privilege to experience this. The restaurant was opened by two Italian immigrants 1956 in a historic house of old Quebec. Then, about a decade ago, ownership transferred to a gentleman who started here as a waiter at the age of 13 and now is the owner. If a story like that is not enough to cement the quality of Le Continental, consider that the team of waiters here has worked at Le Continental most of their lives. They are true masters of their craft. When it comes to wine, there is a pleasant, fairly condensed wine list focused on French appellations. Highlights of the menu are unquestionably the excellent steaks, in particular the filet mignon, as well as Pommes Dauphinese and Escargot.
