The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream - Seats by the stream

The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream

Flashy yet cozy Tinker St. may take center stage. But beyond the contemporary shops that made their…read moreway maybe 10-15 years ago, art galleries and cafes, is Woodstock Inn. When hubs and I need a break from the bustle, Woodstock Inn has been our answer. Due to COVID, Woodstock Inn has done away with paying in-person at the Office/Café. And because of more safety and hygienic protocols, prices have increased. Woodstock Inn has the bones of a motel, but it's far from it. You won't find tacky statues, mismatched smokers' chairs in front of the rooms or odd pastel paint jobs. Each studio, 1-bedroom or rental home(s) have their own modern+country style. Beddings are white, crisp and clean- and none of that grandma's doily collection stuff. I've always backed away from motels, but we actually stayed at another this past summer and honestly, my appreciation for motels ESPECIALLY if they have been upgraded into something shiny and new, is worth staying in.

The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream was largely nice, though it had its pluses and minuses. The…read moreinn was clearly a motel in a previous life, as it had that lengthy structure with outdoor entrances to each room. The parking lot was gravel-based, so vehicles were parked a bit haphazardly, but the lot's spaciousness ensured that it was not really an issue. The hotel was right on the stream with a lovely grassy area dotted with Adirondack chairs, hammocks, and other ways to enjoy the view. The office was located right next to that little park and was also where the continental buffet breakfast was served. The small room had a great view of the water from its few tables. The breakfast options included various hot beverages, several types of milk, yogurt, berries, granola, pastries, breads, hard-boiled eggs, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. It was really the perfect few bites to start the day with energy and wellness. While the inn had a few larger cabins, many of the rooms were supposedly rather tiny, including ours. The room had a queen-sized bed, nightstand, wall-mounted television, and wooden desk with matching chair. There was a closet with some hanging and shelving space, as well as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. The room really left a lot to be desired from a space perspective, as it was hard to navigate. For instance, the room might have come with 2 luggage racks, but there was really only space for one. The bathroom was also tiny, and it was near impossible to use the toilet without sideswiping the pedestal sink on your way. The shower was a decent size at least. The bathroom came with fluffy towels and Aveda products, which were both appreciated. We also loved that the temperature and pressure of the water were phenomenal; in fact, the shower was like a fire hose! Though the room was small, it was SPOTLESS! Also, its individual heater packed a great deal of warmth. There was not an abundance of electrical outlets, but the alarm clock had one built in, as well as two USB ports. The extremely gracious staff had also left a binder of local recommendations for us on the table. The bed, however, was lumpy, and the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. From a location standpoint, the inn was only a few blocks from either end of town, depending on which way you wanted to travel. The residential roads were very dark at night and many did not have sidewalks, so we definitely needed to be alert walking to and from the main drag, even though we knew the town was overly safe. The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream made up for its lack of amenities and small rooms with efficient, friendly service and clear dedication to guest satisfaction.

You're given all your basic amenities, there's a nice free breakfeast every morning -(surprisingly pretty good, but nothing too fancy), and the staff are very pleasant. The room service is also really good at maintaining the rooms. Some rooms have an outlet that doesn't work, or a light that's out, but this hasn't taken anything out of the experience for me. The location is fairly convenient for people traveling along the highway (only five minutes away from some major roads and the closest bridge across the Hudson River). But despite its proximity to a busy road, I've never had issue with noise. I would rate this a solid five stars for a hotel at this price. Nothing more and nothing less than a truly comfortable stay for the two separate weeks I've had to stay here! (12 nights).

Explanation of what time the breakfast will be served and where was not provided. Basically the arrival experience that is standard to IHG was not followed. Furthermore, there was no acknowledgment of a request for linen service the following day as requested via email The linens were not made up on day two as requested, my door was left a jar for at least 10 minutes while I was downstairs getting breakfast. And the communication internally at this hotel is lacking. The housekeepers are very nice, but clearly there is a lack of communication or they would have known that I was not checking out until 1 PM and that I needed linens and towels the day before.
