Food is mid not bad not good . I came here after my wife's appointment near. We were hungry and we have came here before for ice cream. No complaints on the ice cream. I looked online while waiting and I tried placing an order but the system didn't let me . I call to place the order and think nothing about it when I pay it's $37 no big deal I mean everything is going up but when I check receipt the prices aren't matching up to online. Not just that I ordered an enchilada Combo with rice and beans . Which is a combination correct? Well I get charged enchiladas Al Carte at 10.99 and then a super small portion of rice and beans (rice was substituted for potatoes) then I see a charge for 4.99 rice and beans . So I ask and the woman says "that's how the system does it . If you don't believe me you ca come see". Which is like ok that's besides the point I know she's just a worker so I just said that's fine I guess. I love the chili Relleno in La Gloria, I do not love the cashier Jeymi. Yesterday I place my order and went to the bathroom, when I came out it was ready. I took it home but it was so salty as to be inedible for almost $20. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she put a ton of salt on it, because it was never that salty. Everytime I go there, she is passive/agressive, I don't know if it's racist or elderly abuse, but I have had continued issues with her, and I don't know if anyone else has complained. I am on the verge of talking to a lawyer, because both racism and elder abuse are a very big issue in California. In a city of over 200,000 I honestly have never encountered this type of experience. read more

Oh nostalgia... I used to come here as a kid with my mom so I decided to walk through memory lane. I looked at the food and walked out. Nothing looked appetizing to me. Also they go Los Reyes out and made their own ice cream a few years back but no esta buena! It's just not what I remember anymore :/ Still a 3 for all the memories with fam and it's an iconic building in Oxnard that I hope stands forever. La Gloria is a staple in downtown Oxnard. Their champurrado is some of my favorite in the area! They do it traditionally with masa and cinnamon and always takes me back to my childhood. Their ice cream is sooooo good as well! They serve certain flavors like strawberry with a water or milk base as well which is common in Mexico, I love that they give you this option. Sometimes I opt for something light and like to go for the water based flavors for something fresh. Plus You get a great value for the price! read more

Wow, I am so addicted & impressed. I've eaten many tamales & tacos, but the preparation and recipes of these dishes are tremendous! The taco nopales had cactus, onion, tomato, cilantro on two small tortillas; unbelievable flavor. Each ingredient standing on it's own. The tamale was so good, this week with chicken. If you are craving some authentic Mexican food and homemade tortillas this is the place for you. My husband has such fond memories from this place. His family used to get carnitas and tortillas and drive to a park to enjoy their tacos. Plenty of parking right outside, situated right in front of the train station in Oxnard. It may look shady but I've had no problems when I park here. As you enter, you are greeted by the fresh aroma of authentic Mexican cuisine. A lot of patrons but the wait is not too long. Dine in or take out available. Seating accommodations inside or right outside their patio for a more intimate and brighter atmosphere. Prices are pretty great,too. I ordered 2 lbs of carnitas, 3 1/2 pints of salsas and 26 tortillas, all for less than $35. We'll have plenty left overs. The carnitas today was a little on the salty side but not too much that we couldn't eat it. The salsas hand down were the best I've had in a while. The green one is def my fave, as you can taste the different spices and citrus with a kick of cilantro. They have your choice of sweet breads- you pick cafeteria style. Food was super good!!! I had the pupusas revueltas and they were flavorful with the addition of the curtido and salsa. There was a good balance of chicharrón/cheese/beans but the dough itself was very thick. The pupusas were huge but very doughy. The ice cream was delicious and unique!!! I had a scoop of mango, Jamaica, strawberry, and passion fruit. They forgot to make our order and the person in charge was very kind and gave us a free agua fresca (delicious) for the extra wait. read more

I've been coming here for 20 years and am sad to say that is has gotten progressively worse, when just a few years ago it was excellent. I ordered the Chile Relleno combo after being quoted $10, which is up from the previous price of $7 the last time I was here, but I understand costs have increased. There were no prices on the menu board (see pic). When they rang up my order they charged me $13, and there is no sales tax. I asked how the price was different that what was quoted and they just said, "sorry, mistake." This less then two minutes after quoting me the price. I then sat down to await the food, which I had already taken a picture of in the steam tables (see pic). There was one left, so I expected they would scoop it up in two minutes, as there were no other customers. After ten minutes I looked in the steam table and the relleno was still there. I queried to see what the delay was and they seemed to realize they had forgotten my order. After another ten minutes, during which some customers did come and go with their food, they finally brought out my order. I took it to a table but noticed the bottom of the foam plate was stone cold. I checked the temperature of the relleno itself with my finger and it was also refrigerator-cold. I brought it back up, as obviously they didn't give me the hot serving from the steam table, which was still in its pan. They apologized and said they would bring it out heated. They came back a few minutes later and it was lukewarm at best, although the rice was now much hotter. I started to eat it and began to be concerned about the food's safety, as it wasn't heated thoroughly. I ended up dumping much of it and leaving. I didn't want to be confrontational and am hoping they read this review and take serious steps to restore their previously good service. read more

Very Disappointed! I've been going to this little hole in the wall for about 20 years. I call ahead to get my order to avoid lines. It took me more than 10 min to have my order taken. He repeated it back to me twice in a very thick accent. I'm usually the only Gringa there. This time was so disappointing, as I spent a lot of time ordering. When I arrived, I went up to pay. He told me $7. I told him there must be a mistake. I repeated the order again,, he said yes,, that's right. I lookedat my receipt and it was completely wrong. I ordered 3 Carne Asada taco plate with no rice and sub the rice for beans. So it's three Carne aside tacos and beans in the place of rice. He sold me 3 carnitas with a 2 sides of beans. I let him know the order was incorrect. He kept trying to sell me carnitas and said he'd have to sell 2 complete orders of beans. I gave up and asked for my money back. La Gloria has become such a disappointment. I love Mexican food, but very few authentic restaurants in Ventura County. The last two times I ordered a medium side of beans and both times found what I think is either casing or part of a glove. Either way, it should be in the beans. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but when I ordered it again a month later and the same thing happened I stopped ordering sides of beans. Now I can't even get them to understand what I'm ordering. They need to have someone in there that can speak or at least understand English. I have sent so many friends to this place over the years. I love a good hole in the wall restaurant! Seriously! This place is THE authentic experience. Food was BOMB! I had the chile verde burrito while my daughter had the potato tacos. But were excellent and a fair price as well. My husband had the lengua burrito, which to be honest, was not as meaty as it should be (which is why I took one star off). Fresh fruit water ice cream is all I had but frankly it was all I needed to make me a fan of La Gloria De Oxnard. After a delicious meal at La Super Rica in SB, I was craving something sweet and fresh to wash down our spicy lunch. Located about 3 miles off the 101 fwy and next to the train station, La Gloria is actually a pretty big building with lots of parking. The ice cream counter is located just inside the restaurant entrance. They offer both water and milk based ice creams. Instinctively I gravitated toward the water ice ($3 for a medium = 4 scoops). We tried the following flavors: Mango - decent mango flavor with tiny bits of mango Tamarindo - refreshing and not too sweet, didn't like all the tamarind seeds but at least I know they used the real stuff Melon - cantaloupe with bits of fruit, good flavor Jamaica - sweet, sour, gorgeous color, tastes just like the drink Loved the variety, generous portion, and great prices. La Gloria is an entire little complex. You can get anything you want here. If you want to send money somewhere while you get your watch repaired, you shoes shined and groceries done then this is the place. My review though is limited to the tiny ice cream booth in the food court. I have to give praise where it is deserved. I've been coming to get ice cream here since I can remember. It is always such a great treat. They have two types of ice cream, water based and milk based. You can't go wrong with any of them really, on a hot summer day it really hits the spot. The ice cream is so refreshing, especially the water based kind. I don't think I have a favorite but my top picks are usually: nuez, limon, fresa and guayaba. I love the texture of the milk based, it is so smooth, the flavors are simple yet rich. I would love to see a little cart in plaza park on hot summer days like in Mexico! My best friend and I were looking for a place to have lunch at while we were on our way back from Ventura. We decided to give La Gloria a try... we both decided on getting a torta de carnitas and we couldn't say not to the nieve that doesn't contain any milk... oh yes, NO MILK! It's always a must when you're in Oxnard. It's always so refreshing. They have some of the best flavors, hands down! My favorite is the Jamaica, sandia, tamarindo and the guayaba. I finally took a bite from my torta and it was just perfect; it had, Mayo, onion, tomato, lettuce and pickled jalapeños. I definitely recommend this place. read more

La Gloria is pretty much a staple of Oxnard.....you know, the type that's jammed deep into the corner of a stack of pages, with no hope of being pried off unless risk leaving some sort of damage. Located in downtown just a stone throw away from "historic" district and across the street from the bus station, you know you are there when the odors of urine and smog battle for top place in your respiratory system. It's not a super safe area (don't know why I used the word super) but, nothing a 9mm. pistol and a well trained German Sheppard couldn't handle. It's a well known fact that not too long ago hookers and drugs were readily available in the immediate vicinity to meet the demands of a many "oxnardian" classy folk type! Yes, and thanks to the vigilance of Oxnard PD, (just a whole four blocks away) if you now want some hookers and drugs with your tacos you will have to wait until Friday or Saturday night . Ok now lets talk about the food If you enjoy a bit of staleness with your morning Mexican pastry then, I suggest you travel a whole ten steps from the hot food section to the.......bakery! And If you would also like a healthy portion of burnt skin on your fried fish then, travel a whole ten steps back to the hot food section. I like their chilie verde burrito I also buy a jalapeño to eat with it. The only complaint I have is they give you chips an two tiny containers of salsa. So I have to order the jalapeño with my burrito. You have the choice of coke in cans or a bottle of coke from Mexico. I buy two cans more soda and a penny or two less then one bottle. read more

10 stars for the ice cream!!!! it is SO DELICIOUS. there's a good variety of flavors, mostly fruit based. i'm uuuusually a chocolate person but the flavors here are to die for... & the prices- like $4.50 for a large cup (5 scoops i think?). the few times i've been there so far, there's been a line out the door but it's so worth it. we've ordered burritos from here too, which were alright... but their tortilla chips are pretty tasty & thick. aside from the ice cream section, there's hot food & a bakery too... along with the seating area. this place as become an absolute must for us anytime we pass by the area. read more
