The worst tasting tres leche ever. Also the flan was watered down. Overpriced and disgusting tasting desserts.

I'd word…read morethe opening like this: We're from Staten Island and were coming from Long Island, and as a Yelper, I decided to look for a Dominican restaurant with great reviews. I searched Yelp for Dominican restaurants and came across El Campeón de Los Pollos--and we were definitely not disappointed! I was especially impressed by how clean the restaurant was. The food was beautifully displayed buffet-style, and everything looked fresh and appetizing. You order and pay at the register, and they serve your food on a tray with your drink. I ordered a lunch with a drink for $16.33, which I thought was very reasonable considering how expensive everything is nowadays. The food was good, the portions were satisfying, and even the bathroom was very clean--which honestly made me happy! I would definitely come back. My only complaint is that it's a little far from me! But if I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop by.

It's right in front of a bus stop and next to a school. There were so many options. I settled for Combo 2, which includes 1 whole chicken, rice, beans, small salad and soda. The chicken was a bit dry and the pieces were huge. The rice and beans were really tasty, the beans had so much flavor. The salad was simple and small. I tried the Colombia coke and it was a cream soda, very refreshing with the meal. I also ordered a medium oxtail with rice and it was $14. The huge amount was pretty worth it. They didn't skimp on the oxtail. It was more on the saltier side, but still very tasty. I will come again when I'm in the neighborhood and tried their soup. Next time I might even get a small size to try a bunch of other options.

Options were very limited so that was disappointing, we opted for the 1/2 price bottles of wine (also limited, 2 options). It was a quiet night so the bartender was also our waiter, he was great, very attentive and offered recommendations. Party of 6 we ordered a bunch of things and shared. The guacamole & mussels were very good, garlic shrimp were underwhelming. Tuna salad was huge, needed sauce or a better dressing. Dessert was disappointing (molten cake was cold, churros needed to be cooked more). Nice spot for a drink & app or a date but for dinner I'll stick to Tu Casa

Did I mention this is my first time here and meeting Oscar behind the bar. How gracious was he to stick around. We chatted about the neighborhood, the best Mexican in Queens, and how he's a fellow foodie at heart. The place is beautiful! It also has an enclosed outdoor seating area in the front. The food menu looks amazing but we were just there for a night cap. I got the Cola de Leon with bourbon, lime and bitters. Damn was it perfect. The place is small, but has so much character. I'm obsessed and can't wait to come back for food.
