I brought in a pair of purple suede Christian Louboutin pumps that I was passing down to my daughter for her 27th birthday. The pumps needed new heel tips and a cleaning. In addition the suede on one heel was scratched in one spot and there was some damage from stepping in a grate. The owner did an excellent job on the repairs and cleaning. They look almost brand new! The price he charged was totally reasonable and they were ready in a week. I will forever bring my high end shoes here for repairs! I can't wait to see my daughter's face when she receives the coveted Louboutin purple suede pumps on her birthday. She will think I bought her a brand new pair! read more

I went there to get my shoes stretched and after waiting 20 minutes in line the owner was quite rude. He told me to go away, to go to another shoe repair on Cambie. I wouldn't take advice from him so I went to West 57th Shoe Repair where I got great service and great price. read more

I asked if they have Louboutin sole protectors. Out of nowhere, the owner starts to say oh you can get cheap ones on eBay, and ours are expensive and imported from Italy. Honey, I can buy your whole store if I want. It is a simple yes or no question. I never even asked how much it is cause I simply don't care. I could have sued you for defamation but that's a waste of my time. Horrible customer relationship management. read more

Incredibly satisfied with the service here! He did an amazing job repairing the two pairs of shoes I brought in. For the first pair, Valentino rockstuds, he put on a topy sole with super clean, straight lines and the caramel colour matches the heel tip. The second pair were my beaten up Alexander Wang kori booties. I didn't take a before photo but the original rubber sole was worn down to the stacked portion of the heel. He brought them back to life by replacing it with a new thicker topy. It was about one week turnaround to do the two pairs. Very reasonable pricing for excellent work! read more

Confession: I love shoes. I can't get enough of them. I literally have to hide my new pairs from my husband. I don't drive so I argue that my shoes are my wheels and they are going to take me great places. Can we just for a moment imagine how sad you'd be if you had to give up your fav shoes??? I've tried taking my shoes to downtown locations because they are closer to where I work and live but I was paying too much and I always had to wait over a week plus sometimes they did a rubbish job. Fred repaired the heel on my boots for only $35, and polished them up very nicely, so they looked brand new. These boots are my daily walkers, so get a lot of abuse. I expect that with Fred's repairs, they'll last for years to come. Additionally, he could have easily taken my money to re-sole my favourite sandals, but he insisted that I save my money and buy a new pair instead. Might be ok but I just walked in with my shoes that needed repairing. I went in with one leather boot with a short broken zipper, the price would be $100 to fix this. Also the cost to fix 1 shoe that needed 1.5" straight stitching would be $20. I couldn't wait for 1 week, plus I think the price works out to be $200 an hour for the repairs. Maybe this is the going rate for shoe repairs now as many on this web review said that his price was very reasonable. Really? You be the judge. read more

I brought him 3 pairs. His turnaround time was 2 days (but I wasn't able to get there that fast!). He repaired the heels, insoles and strap for one pair (plus polish), the soles and colour for the second and for the 3rd? Which sustained trudging through salt laden streets (leather shoes I thought were permanently ruined)? Fred brought them back to life with a new heel, toe glue, conditioning, polish, and he even replaced the new laces. Instead of having to purchase 3 new pairs of shoes he saved me at least $400! Definitely worth the expense (which wasn't that expensive ~$100 for all 3 pairs to bring them back from the threat of the garbage can!). THANK YOU FRED!!!!!! Now he is my shoe guy. Quality of work is very high, cannot even compare to anyone who did repairs to my shoes before in Vancouver. The prices are a little bit on a high side, but with loyalty card (after 4 stamps 5th pair is free) they are very reasonable. Most arrogant, impatient, rude 'business' ? man. Can't even get a satisfying explanation why he won't do straight replacement soles on 2 of the 3 pairs of shoes I brought in. " I won't replace these soles, they are cheaply made", ....hence I want replacement, correct? " I can't replace the soles, they are too old" ....What does a shoe 'repair' man do? fix new shoes? " Don't buy cheap shoes" .... wouldn't 'cheap' shoes give a shoe repair man more business? " I can do all kinds or repair, and they are all two, three thousand dollars a pair shoes" ..... WOW !! " I don't do small little things that take up so much time, I'm too busy" ....true colours is showing " Go buy new ones. If you want to replace soles, $250 a pair" .... finally mouthed off a price quote ! The above lines are what Fred said to me on Nov. 04, 2015 verbatim. I brought in a pair of like new Clarke shoes, bought in 3rd St. Promenard, Santa Monica, worn three time, the sole had a straight crack. One pair of, yes, old orthotics prescribed & purchased through a well known ortho M.D. in Vancouver. Yes, my 3rd pair was a cheaper pair of sandals; in good shape, only one side of the transparent "plastic" band slipped out of the seam of the platform, it IS a small job. The others are too "cheap" or "old" to worth La Galoche's time or stature to rip off the soles and put on new ones? Thought most people bring old shoes for repair, people with two, three thousand dollars shoes may not even care to have them repaired. This guy doesn't play around. When I first came in there, he didn't try to kiss my butt or anything like that. I wanted to get my pair of water-resistant brown generic New Balance men's shoes re-soled, as I noticed the soles were really worn out and the tread was gone. I had been slipping around on them and finally decided to do something about it. Actually, he was straight up with me and told me that I would be better off monetarily buying a new pair of shoes. I'd never gotten regular shoes repaired before, only work boots. He told me that getting my shoes re-soled would be as expensive as buying a new pair and that rebuilding the heels would cost quite a bit too. He also told me that the inside heels needed to be redone or the soles wouldn't be worth repairing. I'm not the type to shy away from a complete job, even if it is a little pricier, so I insisted that he go all out and repair both shoes. I went to the store to pick them up and Fred had me try them on. The heels needed a little bit of adjustment as they were digging in. Fred worked them over, in stages, with me trying them on several times, and in the end they were better than new. The new soles are more solid and well built, and the leather inner heel part is way higher quality than what came out of the store. Maybe some of you aren't familiar with the French small-business owner attitude - but let me break it down for you real quick - if the guy does a really good job, he doesn't need to kiss your butt, or give huge deals, quality speaks for itself. read more

WOW! I honestly have never been to such a good shoe repair. My sister referred me to this place and I will never go anywhere else to get my shoes repairs. Fred actually repaired my shoes while I was sitting there (it was an easier fix, I don't expect this everytime). He also gave me suggestions on how to clean another pair of light suede shoes and told me the best and cheapest way to clean them. Did a wonderful job with two pair of Frye boots, both of which had badly worn through soles and worn down heels. I've had so many cobblers ruin my shoes with crude workmanship, but this cobbler does beautiful aesthetic work. He's added a few more years of life to my favourite boots.
