My love affair with La Casa Escondida goes back many a year, to when I was first studying abroad in Spain. Our host mom regularly took us here and it was like Christmas came early each time. Since then, I haven't stopped going back. I've taken friends, family, significant others, etc, and it always seems to hit the spot.
I wouldn't be surprised if you've completely walked past it before... it's one of those places you have to know of beforehand. (Hence, I guess, the name...?) I'd recommend having a reservation unless you're one of those people that likes living on the edge.
The service is great and there's one little waitress in particular who warms up your day when you see her. She's got an impressive memory and a sunny/attentive disposition. The owner will often come up to your table and ask how everything is going, which of course adds to the restaurant experience.
As far as the food itself, it's got quite an eclectic, worldly menu. Something for everyone. Prices are high but you're really paying more for the cozy, classy ambiance. The mango salad is exquisite and so is the grilled provolone.
