I had a few chips with salsa before hand. The salsa was more watery than I preferred. The enchiladas came and I began to dig in. They were alright and the flavors got better as I went on to eat more. The refried beans had the most flavor and were good for the plate. The rice had the least amount of flavor, but it all worked out. My wife didn't eat much of the nachos and said that it was missing something. Don't take this review too seriously because I love Tex-mex and this is not it. I think anyone coming here looking for good Mexican food here will enjoy it.

Ordered a quesadilla and a drink. Another guy came around, looking like I was there to pick something up for Door Dash or something. I said, "The other guy already took my order." Not much response. He just left. The first guy came back with a bowl of limes, a Diet Coke and some sauces. He left. A third guy came by and dropped -- and I mean dropped -- my quesadilla and a plastic fork in front of me and left. That was the last I saw anyone. The quesadilla was fine, as far as it went. Would have been nice to get a knife. Still don't know what the limes were for. No chips and salsa like you'd usually expect. Finished eating, got up and paid. There are LOTS of really good Mexican restaurants in Aurora. I'll pick one of them next time.

Visited La Sierra on January 30, 2026, for breakfast with my fellow foodie and dear friend after…read morereceiving a recommendation for this restaurant from my wife. La Sierra was approximately a 35-minute drive from our home in the western suburbs. We arrived at approximately 8:30 AM. As we drove up my wingman John commented that he would not have come into this neighborhood or restaurant if I was not with him. Yes, the neighborhood was a bit rough (I grew up in Pilsen in the 1960's) but to me it felt like home in Chicago. We walked in and were warmly greeted by the hostess and waitress and told to sit-down anywhere we wanted. We chose a booth in the second room of the restaurant; the walls were covered with photos of Mexico and the smell coming from the kitchen was heaven. Our waitress quickly approached us for our drink order, she mentioned that they had Cafe de la Olla (made with piloncillo-unrefined whole cane sugar from Latin America, and cinnamon sticks) which we both ordered. The coffee arrived in a colorful Mexican traditional mug (just the way my mother used to make me). It was delicious! We then ordered our breakfast, which was Mexican Chilaquiles (a traditional, comforting breakfast dish consisting of crispy tortilla chips simmered in red or green salsa until slightly softened) with eggs, meat & refired beans. We were both in "Heaven", the tortilla chips were perfectly cooked with just enough "Crisp" to them. Just the way my mother used to make me on a weekend morning. My wingman & I both agreed that we will be returning and bringing our fellow foodies with us to try the other dishes offered!

He is super friendly and always asks us questions to get to know us and gives us recommendations for restaurants to try--I love it. He's amazing at explaining everything and you can just tell the passion and excitement that goes into this restaurant. It's located in a small old house and it's take out only, but they have some picnic tables to eat outside. I always get their most popular item: the quesabirria combo, which comes with a huge flour tortilla quesabirria (4 pieces cut, great for sharing) and consommé. It is sooo flavorful, cheesy, and tender. They use grass fed beef for their birria instead of traditional goat. I'm not a fan of goat meat so I absolutely love their version. The beef is so delicious!!

They easily handled our big group and the service was excellent. We got Guac and Salsa Verde for the table, both made fresh on their mobile guac/salsa station, that was pretty cool. The guac was guac but the Salsa Verde was warm and fresh and super good, we got it mild as we had a lot of different people with different tastes. I was surprised by the.... call it the Authenticity of the menu. They had the standard tex mex stuff like burritos and enchiladas, but also a lot of things I have never seen or heard of. One thing I noticed walking in was the large amount of Nopales (cactus) cooking on the grill, so I really wanted something with Nopales. I settled on the Molcajete Mixto, which is an incredibly large pile of Chicken, Pork and Beef with red chili sauce, with peppers and onions, fresh cheese and Nopales served in a Molcajete. It was so so good, the meat had great flavor, all cooked perfectly and I took so much home I had it twice more. They also have homemade tortillas. It was one of the better restaurant meals I've had in a long time. My wife had a simple Taco salad with steak and it was just as good. I can't believe we had never been here. We certainly will be back and bring everyone I know. I hear they have maratchi on the weekends at night. There is so much more I want to try on the menu, it's a great location on the river. The restaurant was clean, quiet, the bathrooms were clean, the cashier so sweet and patient--I couldn't ask for more! We ordered a asada burrito dinner, a chorizo burrito, and a large horchata to split. We were given a basket of chips and a delicious salsa that had flavor, but wasn't too spicy! The burritos were generously filled and had avocado! That's not something I see everywhere. The beans were a great consistency, the rice was soft and flavorful, and the horchata was top notch! It had a unique flavor, too, and wasn't watery. The cup also wasn't overfilled with ice! While we were patiently waiting for the burritos, we fell victim to the slideshow and decided we just had to try a gordita lol. It was SO good, but the portions were so filling we had to take the rest of the gordita and part of a burrito with. The tomatillo sauce was perfect and the red sauce had quite a kick to it, but not enough that it was painful. The food didn't NEED any extra sauce, but I like to try them, anyways! I wished I lived in this area so I could eat more gorditas, but I will definitely stop here again if I am around! If you're lucky enough to live in the area, please do support this sweet business!
