Fun place - and sour cream chicken enchiladas are to die for!! Decor : Absolutely a nice and clean TexMex environment. Charming spaces and tables are not too close together. Music is softly playing in the background. The bar is large with three TVs. Very warm and inviting. Score: 10 out of 10 Chips: Chips are medium thickness, unsalted, very nice. Score: 7.5 out of 10 Salsa: Salsa has a beautiful traditional tomato based flavor medium on the spicing and low heat - flavorful. Score: 9 out of 10 Chicken Quesadilla w/ onions & peppers: Skip this one. The chicken is absolutely bone dry, tough, and overcooked. The peppers and onions are beautifully sautéed al dente and the cheese veg and meat ratios are proportional. Score: 2 out of 10 Guacamole: Very nice, but had bit of saltiness to the point I could not enjoy it. (Note: I also don't use much salt myself, so the average person may not even notice it.) Score: 2 out of 10 Beef Enchilada with chili con Carne sauce: Good portion. Meat is moist, not greasy, but also not seasoned very much. The chili carne sauce was nice but had a bit of sweetness (possibly sugar added). Was enjoyable, but not outstanding. Score: 7 out of 10 Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada: Amazing! Outstanding! Absolutely get some! The chicken is extremely moist, absolutely perfect seasoning with just a gentle hint of heat. The sauce has a beautiful tang from the sour cream and the correct consistency. Good portion. Can't wait to come back and have them again. Score: 10 out of 10 Server (CiCi) Absolutely wonderful. Very attentive refresh my drink without me asking for it and very courteous. AMBIENCE: pretty crowded and small place for all the tables they have, making you feel like you're on a mission trying to get to the bathroom is not super decorated. I used to go here in the 70's and absolutely loved the place and the food. I returned for the first time in many years this past weekend. I was definitely disappointed in the food...just not as tasty and it was delivered to the table about luke warm. So points off for the food. But the atmosphere was still festive and looked much like it did in the old days. Our server was excellent! We had a party of 10 and he kept us supplied with chips and salsa throughout the meal. Probably won't return, but it was fun retracing old steps. read more

I went there to order some chips and salsa to go. The hostesses seemed very confused as to what salsa was then sent me all the way into the back of the kitchen in their office room with the schedules and paperwork and had me waiting there to even get to order. The salsa is also super sour. I will never be coming back here. read more

The salsa is horrible. If you don't have good salsa then foods not going to be good either. I have been going to that restaurant since I was 16 years old and the last few times I have been there the food has not been good. I would personally not go go because I don't know who took it on their selves to change the recipe, but you should change back. When I was younger and like said we ate there often the owners knew us. I would buy a jar of their salsa cause it was spicy and good. Service was good. Lots of our party did not like the food. Spinach enchiladas was not good. Rice was terrible. read more

I feel like this place should have a rating than it does...I enjoyed it! The atmosphere was fun and upbeat, nicely decorated and plenty of seating. It started with the rude hostess. Her attitude was very apparent that when I asked be seated in the air conditioned part she was very unkind! It's good but other Mexican food in Waco is better. The reason this place is good tho for Waco is because it's a classic staple in Waco but if you are traveling and want good Mexican I wouldn't recommend this place! They have a lot of good options and it's good for locals but there is better in Waco. read more

I think there's been a revamp of the menu. Food was good, different from what I'm used to, but I still enjoyed my dinner.We ordered the carne guisada, ribeye tacos and chicken fried chicken. Sierra, not sure if I'm spelling her name correctly was our server. She was GREAT, made sure to ask if we were ok very attentive. Very friendly vibe and made us feel right at home. My food was horrible i ordered a walking taco and it was drowned in nothing but cheese i couldn't even taste the chili and chips nor any onions etc. Nothing but cheese was all i tasted when i told the server she relayed the message that it couldnt be remade or removed from my ticket that is wrong and very unacceptable. To be served food that wasnt made correctly and expect the customer to pay for it. read more

The service was great and so was the food. I always appreciate when a menu clearly marks which items are vegetarian and this menu did. I had to get their famous purple margarita because it said it has secret ingredients--it tasted almost medicinal and I mean that in a good way! I really liked it whatever it was. I am a long time supporter of this restaurant. Grew up loving the food and matured to drinking their famous margaritas. They are the best. But over the years the food has changed. Now don't get me wrong the drinks are still great. But moving up the scale as being very pricey. But back to the food. I was charged $2.00 for the green hot salas. I would have been ok if the bar person Geraldo would have warned me in advance that it cost extra. I bought food so u would think it was part of the complimentary (which could really add some marketing) opportunity. But NO. It s a charge. Shame on u LaFiesta!!. He asked if I like it and I said NO it should be served warmed. He did not bother to remove it and then when I complained he whispered to the bar ladies and they laughed This is really sad when a bar person takes advantage of people when they support and have always supported this restaurant. So I look at the bar person Geraldo as being greedy instead of great customer service. Now he is having me write this and complain when he should have apologized and remove the unlike pricey salsa. Who LaFiesta stand on what make u unique the service and the great Margarita! Do better and come back to being customer service oriented read more

We haven't been here in years and the new addition looks great. We had the Loaded White Queso and it was excellent. It's big enough for a petty of four. I had the fish tacos with a side of refried beans and a corn cake. The beans were beans, nothing special . The corn cake was a sweet ball of tastiness. The fish tacos were some of the best I ever had. Crispy fried fish with slaw, chipotle mayo sauce, fresh pico, and a mango salsa that was to die for. My friend had the Stuffed Avocado with brisket. She said it was very tasty. The salsa was ok but the chips were thin and crispy. It didn't disappoint. We would eat here again. read more

Back in the good old days, before there were pre-formed taco shells and canned enchilada sauces, restaurant Tex-Mex was just like homemade. At La Fiesta, you'll find the same home-style flavors - and the same fresh-fried taco shells, house-made spices, homemade tortillas, and made-from-scratch enchilada sauces that your grandparents once enjoyed. History

Established in 1922.

In 1922, Antonio P. Castillo, Sr. opened Tony's Aztec Café serving "original Mexican dishes" in downtown Waco. This was the start of the Castillo family tradition of serving superb Mexican cuisine. Following in his father's footsteps, Sam Castillo, Sr. opened La Fiesta in 1963 with the mission to serve the highest quality Tex-Mex cuisine in Waco. In the 1990s, as his children were growing up, Sam wanted to pass along the knowledge and experience that he had learned from his father. That's when Lynsey and Sam III became the third generation of Castillos to carry on the traditions of La Fiesta Restaurant. In 2016, Sam Jr. gave Lysney all of the day-to-day responsibilities for running La Fiesta Restaurant and Catering. Here at LaFiesta, we continue to make authenticTex-Mex family recipes from scratch in our kitchen every day.

Meet the Business Owner: Lynsey C.

Born and raised in Waco, Texas Lynsey graduated from Midway High School in the mid-1990's. After working in retail for several years, she joined her family's restaurant business in the late 1990's. As La Fiesta's manager for more than five years, she learned every detail of running the business. For the next several years, Lynsey's focus was on her four children. In 2012, she came back to the family business and reignited Fiesta Catering. In 2015, her father turned the daily operations of the resturant over to Lynsey, and today the business is thriving. In her spare time, Lynsey is raising her daughter and three sons. She is involved in U-Matters Street Ministry, Junior League of Waco as well as other charitable organizations.

However, I was disappointed to learn they no longer serve guacamole with their fajitas. The chicken fajitas arrived sizzling hot, but became very dry as they cooled. They were spicy, but lacked much flavor. The rice and beans were good. Overall, between the slow service, unpleasant smell, and mediocre food, I would not return or recommend this restaurant. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in Waco that I'd try before coming back here.

My carne asada quesadilla was excellent! The service at this location was great and the eating area was kept very clean by the staff. I come to Waco frequently and now know where I'll be coming to get my carne asada fix!

The food tends to be milder here (nothing too spicy for Waco, lol) but everything was well prepared with quality ingredients. The cocktails were also very nice. I definitely enjoyed my jalapeño margarita. It's a large venue. The porch holds about 24 people. The back room holds about 30. And the main room is even larger. Their homemade chips are light and crispy, and their salsa is super flavorful while not overly spicy. It hits that happy medium between my husband and me. Breakfast is also great. You go in and pretty much grab a table unless there's a line with people waiting. Service is always friendly and efficient. Prices are fair. Typical mom and pop type interior with a mixture of booth seating and tables with metal chairs. It's always clean. Branch out and try something new. Highly recommend.
