The staff was very accommodating, especially when I spilled half of my order taking it to the table and they graciously replaced it. I was staying at a hotel nearby and had the craving for some pizza. Yelp recommended La Fermata. I made the one block walk and was there in no time. There was a vast selection of square pizzas available for choosing. I chose 3 different types with the knowledge that I was over ordering. All of the flavors ordered were great - especially the one with the extra cheese melted over three top. The dough was a bit thick but crunchy which I loved. Seating-wise, there were seats inside in the back or outside, out front. The outdoor seating has a pretty good view for people watching and socializing, but the indoor seating was warm with it being chilly outside. I asked them for a spicy pizza, and he said the one with what looked like a red sausage. Instead of being spicy, it was super sweet, like they injected sugar in it--yuck. But I went with something unfamiliar. I just pointed to it and he cut off a slice and weighed it. It's sold by weight. It was an ok size piece and came out to be just over 5€. After I ordered I asked what it was, he said it was a type of sausage. It was a bit sweet, thin crust, quality toppings and ingredients. It was also a bit greasy maybe from the sausage. Small low key pizza joint with very enticing rectangular pies displayed in the glass case by the entrance. This shop was around the corner from our hotel, so we walked by several times, and each time I passed, I thought "damn, those pizzas look good." Finally made a point to grab a late lunch here one day and was very pleased with this decision. They had perhaps a dozen or so different types of pizza that you could purchase by weight. Essentially, the guy has a pair of scissors and asks how large of a portion you want and then cuts you your own customer sized slice. They then reheat the slices so they are nice and crisp. We ordered two slices: the eggplant and a mushroom with sun dried tomato. I really liked the mushroom and tomato. The sauce was very flavorful. Also the crust is really tasty - probably best described as Sicilian style pan crust. I wish I had been hungrier because they had several other pizzas that looked good. Bottom line: this was a nice place for a quick and casual bite. They also serve coffee here, as most places do in Barcelona. read more

The idea of this place is great--there are premade pizzas which the staff cuts for you according to how much you want to eat, and charges you by weight. However, the pizzas weren't really pizza-like. Very good à la coupe pizzas, with ~10 different flavors (plus 1-2 dessert pizzas). All pizzas are fresh, and the 4 we tasted were excellent. You can eat them outside on their small terrace (no additional charge for that). You eat wayyy enough when paying €8-10 per person, so it is also a good deal in this quite expensive neighbourhood.
