The place we were going to go was closed, so we crossed the street to find the Red Wing Café. This is one of those places that you discover by happy accident and are thrilled that luck made it possible. It's also one of those places that I wished was in MY neighborhood in Minneapolis so I could be a regular. The place was warm and cozy, even in February. Although it was packed, we scored a table. It has all day breakfasts and my wife ordered the pecan Belgian waffle. I was more than amazed that it was served with a bottle of pure maple syrup from a place in nearby Wisconsin. Real maple syrup is usually an upcharge in most restaurants these days. It was all the crispy and gooey goodness that you could hope for. All of the breakfasts at the tables around us looked great, so I started to regret my choice of the hot turkey sandwich I ordered with fries (as a substitute for the mashed potatoes). My regret turned to joy because this was one of the best hot turkey sandwiches I've had, and believe me, I've had many! The turkey slices was thickly carved, juicy, and fresh. The gravy, which is usually the downfall, was absolutely wonderful. Not too salty and perfectly flavored. My mouth is watering as I'm typing this! The fries were hot and crispy. Even the coffee was great. I know where we are eating the next time we visit Red Wing.

I ordered the French toast. It arrived barely warm, and after almost finishing the first slice... I found a hair. The other meal went like this: "I'll have the soup, salad, and bread." "What kind of soup?" we asked. "The soup of the day," the server replied. We looked at each other and thought, Okay... surprise soup. "So what are the bread choices?" (Thinking breadsticks, garlic toast, something...) "It's like toast." "Okay... wheat toast then." The meal arrived: Soup was cold and looked like Campbell's Chunky Soup. Salad was warm, consisting of iceberg lettuce and a quarter slice of tomato. Wheat toast was cold. Crackers were stale. Needless to say, neither of us finished our meals. I politely pointed out the hair to the server. Her response? "Oh... do you want me to have them make another one?" Ummm... no. Then came the bill: about $24. Nothing was taken off. No discount. No real apology until I mentioned paying full price for a meal with a hair in it. Then, to top it all off, they asked if we wanted a to-go box. For what,, the hair!! At that point, all we could do was laugh. It was honestly one of the most unbelievable dining experiences I've ever had.

It's surprisingly…read moredifficult to find a truly high-quality bakery around here, and after one too many supermarket "French" baguettes and bake-at-home loaves, this place was exactly what I'd been looking for. The bread is fantastic--crusty, fresh, and authentically French. They also have an incredible selection of beautiful pastries, cakes, and other classic French treats that look like they came straight out of a Parisian pâtisserie. And the coffee is absolutely exquisite. One thing that always makes me smile is that while the pastries look and taste authentically French, they're definitely American-sized! They're enormous. If you're hungry, you're in for a treat. More often than not, I'll enjoy half of one there with a coffee and take the rest home in a box for later. It's a wonderful little café with a relaxed atmosphere and a great place to sit and unwind. If you're in the Apple Valley area and looking for something a little different--something with a genuine European feel--I can't recommend Café de Paris highly enough. I'll definitely keep coming back.

I only stopped at the counter, checked out the offerings, and picked up a few things to go. The place was nice and charming but the seating didn't look too comfortable. Listen, it's not about the chairs. This is a gem of a cafe with excellent baked goodies and desserts. Indulge and enjoy!
