It's called the Happy Cart!

We have been dining here when we are in Cancun for over 30 years. The food and service is consistently excellent. The wine program is top notch, make sure to speak with sommelier Arturo! I highly recommend the Duck Ravioli with Porcini, but honestly, everything on the menu is excellent. Long-time owner Juan is a wonderful host along with his staff, many of whom have been here as long as I can recall. Each year it is like a homecoming! The entire space is lovely with a relaxed, elegant ambiance. Ask about the piano bar/speakeasy, hidden upstairs.

Complimentary pate, served before the meal.

Intimate ambiance and five star service at a three star price, just outside the hotel zone on the main thoroughfare. Second visit to Cancun's premier Italian restaurant, with traditional and unique dishes, to celebrate our 27th anniversary. Hard to imagine a better meal or more enjoyable experience. The owner chef visited our table and surprised us with a chocolate mousse dessert.

Boquinete "Dolce Vita" - add the sauce as you cut it - excellent!!!!

Went here on our last night in Cancun and everything was delicious! We had multiple servers throughout the night and everyone was very attentive and friendly. We were a party of 9 and we were warmly welcomed. They gave us complimentary bread with quail pate and it was delicious. I took the house special and it was amazing : Boquinete "Dolce Vita" I would recommend it. One of the owner, Juan, would periodically check on us and is very sweet and really cares!

Tonight dinner was fantastic! We just finished a long day trip to Valladolid and back to Cancun. Pancho was our amazing server and his team was very accommodating. They were also checking in with us if we needed anything and they were very quick to deliver. Their service was one of the best experience we had during our 2 week trip in the Cancun area. The restaurant is very clean as well! The food is just as amazing as their service! La Dolce Vita is a nice change from the Yucatán food we've been eating all week. I had the pizza Leonardo di Vinci which was really good thin crust pizza with fresh arugula and cherry tomatoes. My sister and parents all got pasta. All good choices. Although we were pretty full after eating, we got dessert and no regrets! The tiramisu and fargole pans cotta were delicious! They are definitely rated one of the best Italian food experiences in Cancun for good reason. Food and service were beyond expectations. The food was also reasonably priced.

Tell them if you're celebrating something special when you make reservations!

Wow! I've been here six years in a row and I am never disappointed. We have met (and always are greeted by) the wait staff and owner and they truly care about their customers and the food. Our group had Caprese salad, Cesar salad, lasagna, red snapper, veal saltimbocca, spinach linguine with shrimp, limoncello, tiramisu, and lots of great wine. This is not a flashy show with smoke and loud music. This is the OG Italian restaurant in Cancun since the 1980's. Take the time to taxi there. Talk to the wait staff. Savor the food. Enjoy great conversation (because you can actually hear!). Step outside the hotel zone and give this place a try!

Went for dinner with family and was very impressed by this place. Great atmosphere, service and the food was really good. I had the lasagna and it was the best I've had anywhere.

With its all glass walls, the space was elegant and inviting. The kitchen was all glass so you can see the chefs preparing the food. We didn't have reservations, but the hostess found us a great table. Our main server was Alejandro and he was more than helpful in making sure we ordered what we wanted. With Italian food, I also prefer very good Italian wine versus a cocktail. He pointed me to 2 red wines that were bold and heavy as I requested. Both were just OK, but expensive. Wines by the bottle was ridiculously high. Regardless, he was great in steering me to the type of dishes more suited to what I was asking for and not just the most expensive. This restaurant has been highly recommended by my brother and sister in law for years. They had told us it was one of the best Italian food they have had anywhere. But, In its previous location, it just looked a bit stuffy for a CANCÚN vacation meal. At its new location, though it was still upscale, it seemed more approachable to us somehow. We just came back from a 10 day vacation at the Amalfi coast, and Rome, Italy. We found the pastas at Cenacolo to be comparable if not better. We had bruschetta, Ragu spaghetti, lasagna, and their chocolate soufflé. We had read that the soufflé was outstanding so we ordered 2. We were NOT disappointed with any of the food items.

All-in-all it was worth the inconvenience. Very eclectic menu, warm atmosphere and outstanding service. I started withe the Mango-Tamarind: Lettuce, Indian walnut, mango, blueberries, Cotija cheese, mango-habanero dressing and tamarind billet. Unique and tasty. "Swiss Chicken Enchiladas" for the main course was not what you get at a local Mexican joint -- Four tortillas stuffed with chicken, bathed in a creamy tomatillo sauce with melted cheese and a base of refried black beans. This was a 5-star dish! I couldn't resist ordering a side dish though I didn't need to because the enchiladas were really enough, so I indulged myself with fries: these were not your run of the mill French fries. Porfirio's Potatoes -- French fries with chipotle pepper aioli, parmesan cheese and parsley. Finally, if you like ice cream I highly recommend that you order BOTH offerings: 1) "ICE CREAM TASTING" - Strawberry ice cream, chocolate ice cream from Metate, marzipan ice cream and vanilla from Papantla. Served with grated coconut, chocolate grain, M&M's, Oreo cookies and ice cream cones; and, 2) "PORFIRIO'S MOLECULAR ICE CREAM" - served with cajeta Worcestershire sauce in an ice cream cone. (I know it sounds disgusting right? Nope it worked. The chef is just showing off with this dish)

Dinner in the cancun strip…read more We decided to pick Porfirio's for the evening from all of the restaurants outside of the all inclusive resorts. I took some notes and this is what I thought of the dishes. Xoajacan Imoladas - The mole is perfection. The flautas, superb. Everything in this plate is a symphony of what I would expect from Xoajaca. 9.5/10 Barbacoa Bonemarrow - Barcacoa is on point. The Marrow is Sublime. Together with the accompaniments is superb. I dream of Marrow everyday. This is a 10/10 Yellow fin Tosatadas - Superb!!! One of the best tostadas I have ever had. The microgreens, the sauce and the square Tostada works well all together. 8.8/10 Salmon - Cooked perfectly. The corn is a great accompaniment. The fish is impeccably seasoned. This dish is heaven sent with a 9.8/10 Grilled Octopus - Grilled perfectly, I can tell by the texture. The mash is superb, they used margarine instead of butter and I absolutely love the contrast from the traditional mash. 9.8/10 Mexican Rice - Its pretty good. It does have a nice seafoodish finish. The pepper was actually spicy. Nice and pleasant rice dish. 8/10 Charred Avocado Salad - Grilled avocado is a bit of a wash. It did make it look good on the plate. The dressing is a little weak. Needs a little more zip, some citrus or vinegar would give this salad some justice. Its a little uninspired 7/10 Service is impeccable and attentive and the atmosphere is lovely.
