My friend and I came here for my bday dinner while in Cancun. I know...who eats Italian food in Cancun?! The food was great! The restaurant is situated in an open air mall adjacent to our hotel which was really convenient. The walk over was short so my thighs didn't have time to sweat. Lol. The ambiance was really nice. They have outdoor seating overlooking the marina. The salad with bread service was delicious. The bread was served with pickled onions and a ricotta and parmesan spread. Amazing! My bolognese was very flavorful. We shared a panacotta..I wasn't a fan. They also brought out one with a birthday sparkler. My only gripe...a BIG one is that the waiter inspected our money right at the table. We used american dollars instead of pesos. He claimed this was to ensure the bills were "ok" because if not he would be charged for them. I thought this was very unprofessional and tainted what was otherwise a great dinner. Our service is always great & the food is always even better than we can remember. Staples that we always order are the pepperoni pizza, lasagna & mad giant shrimp. Cenacola's pizza crust is pretty thin & crispy on the bottom, but still has a soft and semi doughy crust -basically neapolitan style. No words can describe how fresh and perfectly al dente the pasta is, you mush go try it for yourself to understand. Our Mad Giant Shrimp is always yummy too. Very fresh & the potatoes that come with it are sooo crispy and seasoned generously. Cenacola is pretty on the inside, but also has outdoor seating near the water. Handmade pasta was all we needed to read! You can see them making it too! The place is perfect for sunset. Get seating outside right on the water and it's perfect for an evening sunset over the water date. The waiters are very attentive as well. The food was perfection from the bread they served in advance of our meal to our pastas! We ordered the lasagna which came highly recommended and was a very smooth and creamy texture. Very tasty! However, my pasta the Diabla Penne was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice and al dente bite to it and they mix it in a wheel of cheese before serving it to you which is a fun presentation before enjoying a delightful treat! Juan Carlos was our waiter. Truly an amazing experience. The ambience is perfect for romantic date or just to celebrate any special occasion. Not noisy whatsoever. The wine, my wife's Manhattan was perfect. I had the black spaghetti entrée which was filled with plenty of seafood and you probably couldn't get it anywhere else, but Spain. Arrived Val night dinner is always a challenge. We are tired, hungry, and short on patience. We made a reservation at CAO next store but we're firmly turned away at door (with a reservation?). We got into this lovely Italian gem with no reservation and were glad to be refused at CAO by dinners end. Flawless service from Ramón and Ricardo and beautiful lighting and music put us at ease instantly. Beautiful cocktails and warm amazing bread prepared in the brick oven in front of us took the edge off our weariness. Followed by the BEST risotto I've eaten outside of Italy and fresh fettuccine with bolognese was a bowl of comfort for my husband. English not a problem. Outdoors has a beautiful patio but we really enjoyed the air conditioning inside. Too full for dessert but boy did they look tempting. With a nice tip it was $120 usd all in. This is a super elegant and classy restaurant located in a convenient shopping mall complex. I think the best thing about the restaurant is the upscale ambiance and the service, but the food is quite good as well. We ordered one of the made at the table pastas and that was a pretty fun experience to watch them mix the cheeses on top of the pasta table-side. The pasta was cooked perfectly al-dente so if you like a thicker, more chewy texture to your pasta you will enjoy the food here. Great night-time view of the Marina as well! read more

Cenacolo is a pretentious entertainment venue, not a restaurant. It's glitzy and has a great view of the harbor, but don't go there expecting outstanding Italian food. My "seafood" pasta dish contained a garnish of maybe 1 ounce of tiny calamari tentacles and scraps of shrimp pieces tossed on top of a tasteless, cool dry pasta which may have been homemade but that hardly mattered. Other things I (a chef) noted: Wines are preposterously priced but stored on open shelves, neck up so the corks are subject to drying out at room temp. Would I risk $200 or $300 for a bottle? No way. They do a "tableside" prep of rigatoni in red sauce, which is only notable because the vessel they mix it up in is a hollowed-out Parmesan wheel about 18 inches in diameter. Ooohs and Ahhhs ensued! But my (food safety) question is, how do they clean these serving vessels between servings and overnight? I cannot think of a way that this could be done in a hygienic way without affecting the next serving with chemical residues. I guess Cancun doesn't do a lot of food safety inspections. It's said in the industry that Italian food is the easiest money-maker. Cenacolo has added Vegas-y show and glitz to ratchet up the revenue. If that's your thing, go for it. This was the most expensive dinner we had during our ten-day stay but the lowest quality. read more

Cenacolo was a pleasant surprise. We were a little unsure about Italian food in Mexico but turned out to be some of the best Italian! Right on the bay with such a beautiful view. Wonderful place for a date night - ambiance is perfect. We ordered 3 dishes which were all brought out one at a time. I really enjoyed this because you really got to taste each separate dish and truly immerse in that dish. First was one of their classics green hat ravioli. Super fresh, light, simple. Second, was their diabla penne. The chilies gave a nice little kick to the flavor, it was creamy, and so delicious! The sauce was perfect. Third, was the classic margarita with truffle. The pizza was super delicious, cheesy and thin crust. We loved the food and the service was superb throughout the whole evening. Waiter Jorge and Leonel were terrific. We called in advanced for a reservation and they had asked if we were celebrating anything, which we were, our anniversary so at the end they brought out a nice panna cotta with happy anniversary written on it. This is another location of a famous Italian restaurant in CUN. They are famous because of their hand-made pasta. They are located on a very nice marina mall with tons of chick stores. The place looks and feels up-scale, with a wood-fire oven and the chefs making the pasta on the window. They have a nice patio overlooking the marina, so you can dine "al fresco". The staff is super nice and accommodating. The service despite being a little slow, overall is good. The table service is a little disappointing with just a few slices of flat bread, what seems to be cottage cheese and pickled onions. No butter. The salad was huge, but unseasoned (we had to asked for salt) and a little dry (we asked for more dressing). The three pasta dishes we order were good. However I would have preferred more bolognese sauce, a little more butter sauce and more spice in my "diabla" sauce. The price is higher than expected, considering the quality. I guess they charge you for the venue and the experience. You can definitely have better Italian food somewhere else and not so expensive. But we had a very pleasant evening watching the boats and the people, so no regrets here. Although I don't know if I would come back before trying something else first. read more

We had dinner here last night and I was a bit apprehensive to find good Italian food in Mexico--having grown up in the SF Bay Area and frequented many Italian restaurants in the North Beach area of San Francisco- this restaurant could easily compete with the best of the best in SF!! Great ambiance, attentive service, excellent food! My husband started out with the Valentina Salad and it was huge and such a beautiful presentation. I don't eat Salad but it was served partly in a parmesan basket which I tasted and that was excellent. He then had the Red Marinara Black Guitar Spaghetti & enjoyed it thoroughly. The fish was super fresh and pasta delicious. I had the Don Tino Ravioli and they were excellent, creamy cheeses stuffed into the raviolis with a yummy sausage marinara sauce. We really didn't have room for dessert but the dinner was soooooo good that we felt we had to give dessert a try. I had the Chocolate Drop which was a mousse cake filled with mascarpone and topped with chocolate sauce and he had the Flan. Both were excellent and so yummy. Mexican Coffee and Cappucino were also fantastic. Really no complaints- everything was amazing. Our servers were Juan & Jhanathan and they were so attentive!! I will definitely recommend this place to friends and clients. Our dinner for 2 that also included 2 cocktails and 2 glasses of wine with extra gratuity (above what they suggest) was $174 USD and worth every penny. Upon walking in expectations were set high as we were asked if our table had allergies. Indeed someone did and the experience went downhill from there. As we observed the beautiful surroundings a table sat down 10-15 minutes after us and their table was set with bread and serving plates before we had even gotten simple our waters. They were clearly known by the manager but it was it was only 4 people and we had 3. They had 3-4 servers at their table during meal change, we had 2 guys maybe together to assist our table upon food delivery. We finally got our bread for the table with sesame seeds which was one of our allergies and received no serving plates. We got 2 water glasses for 3 people who asked for water. It was honestly just the simplest mistakes were all checked off. We noticed excellent service yet again at the table next to us who changed their plates and cutlery during meals and was hoping the food was going to be fantastic to change our moods from observation. We ordered the stuffed shrimp calamari (which had balsamic vinaigrette) and Parmesan salad both were very good the rack of lamb was okay, green hat pasta was simple and bolognese lasagna was very salty. Recently came here during our stay in Cancun. I typically don't try Italian on vacation, especially out of country, because I'm never satisfied. The restaurant was nice, view was good, and staff was very friendly and attentive. However, the food was disappointing. We ordered the stuffed calamari appetizer and the portion was extremely small and lacked flavor. The sauce very salty and tasted like an Asian soy sauce. For entree, we ordered the carbonara with pork cheek that was supposed to be prepared at the table. I had figured it was prepared at the table in a cheese wheel, however, it came out in a pan already cooked. The spaghetti tasted like lo mein. The wine was good though. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant ever. Patricia was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some excellent recommendations. Their beef carpaccio is to die for. Their green hats, and pesto gnocchi was SO GOOD. They brought my daughter a sparkler and special dessert for her birthday. Such a gorgeous venue, with outside seating, but we chose to sit inside this time. They upgraded their menus and glassware since we were here last and it was a nice elegant touch.
