They are the preferred bakery of the restaurant where we held our shower and I worked directly with Sophia on the design- she helped bring my vision to life. To choose flavors, she even created a sample bag of cake & filling for my husband and I to try before making a decision. The cake decorator was a nightmare to deal with! I ordered a cake for my daughter's 1st birthday! From the start ordering the cake, she could not decorate any way i wanted without it costing me $$$$ so i had to simplify what i wanted and its still was a lot of money but i needed a cake so i agreed to go through with it! I made a simple pregnant mom mistake and i owed them money for the cake the day before the party...well my mistake is that with all the party planning and things i had to do the day before i forgot! So the next morning (day of the party) i called with nerves bc i forgot to pay and was hoping i could pay them immediately and all would be good! NOPE! She told me she wasnt making my cake anymore bc i didnt pay! I told her i was calling to pay! Then she said well she wont be able to deliver the cake till the end of the party bc she dodnt have a delivery driver! That is insane! Arent u supposed to look at ur orders for the day and maybe call the people that didnt pay and confirm with them if u r still making the cake or not? My order requested a delivery driver for over a week before, i understand my payment is important , no payment no cake i get it! But i forgot i wasnt trying to be difficult! They had my number on the order form they could have called me before end of the day, the day before and asked me if i still wanted the cake and if so to pay over the phone! I cant tell you the way she made me cry! She was so mean she told me shes not making my cake and when i got angry bc how do u not have a cake for ur daughters first birthday and i had 60 people coming to this party in 3 hours from this point! She argued back to me and then got so impatient that she decided to hang up the phone! Luckily i called back and spoke with the manager and he told me that they were absolutely making my cake and that the cake decorator was supposed to call me back but she didnt and i opted for my husband to go pick it up bc i can't have this problem today! So unprofessional of her to treat a customer this way! This would be the 3rd time coming to her and this is how she treats her repeat customers? She was always difficult to deal with though, in the past she told me she still would have to charge me the full decorating price if i bought the decorations for her to stick on bc "she is still decorating it" which then again i would understand but she is just so mean about it and difficult to talk to! Its either she hates her job so much or she takes it too seriously and thinks she owns the place! The fact she did this to me the day of my daughters party is sickening! I was so upset, who does this to a pregnant woman whose just trying to make her daughters first birthday special! I admitted my mistake on the phone i apologized she should have just understood and been nice and said no problem we will take ur payment and i will make ur cake , but instead in her exact words was "oh no im not making ur cake anymore u didnt pay" and i responded i was calling to pay and she said "well either way i cant get it to you until end of day bc i dont have a driver right now" which angered me and argued her bc she said it so nasty like she was trying to get out of making my cake! So i got loud, i cursed at her and told her off bc she scared me and was very mean so i reacted and then she said "well now i dont need ur payment bc im definitely not doing business with you" and proceeded to hang up! I gave two stars for the fast and friendly service, but I'm appalled at the quality of the pastries. The brownie had that refrigerator taste like it had been sitting there for a while. It had to be thrown out. The vanilla cream pie was very soggy but had good flavor. The Italian cheesecake was bland and didn't taste fresh. What is worse than being responsible for bringing dessert to Easter dinner and having the cake be stale)? Embarrassing. We placed an order for a chocolate mousse cake and marble pound cake 3 days before Easter. Arrived on the Saturday before to pick up our order expecting it to be boxed and ready in the back. It wasn't. The employee had to take the mousse cake from the display case. She said they had no room in the refrigerator in the back because of their orders for restaurants. A nice bakery with a wide assortment of cakes, cookies, bread, and other sweet treats. The system is a bit outdated because they could not get it to accept my chip card but prices are decent. I got a box of about 8 different treats for my friend and judging by the "mmm's," I think she and her family really enjoyed it. What a terrible place. The owner Joe Is incredibly nasty. We ordered a kid's birthday cake. It wasn't there when we arrived to pick it up. The staff spent the next 15 minutes trying to blame us in every way possible (you called the wrong store; you went to Freehold by mistake; you didn't place an order). Well it turns out that we _did_ place the order while actually standing in the Old Bridge store. The woman who took the order wrote down the wrong date. But their _first_ instinct was to blame us -- the customer. We waited another 20 minutes while they made the cake. We would only find out later when we cut it open that they made it _wrong_. And the whole fiasco made me very late arriving to the birthday party with the cake. So to apparently make it up to us they gave us a tiny tray of cookies. We didn't want cookies. We wanted the right cake at the right time. No one ate the cookies. Oh, wait, I think one person had a cookie. We were very unhappy. I spoke with the owner, Joe, today. Boy was he nasty. We gave you cookies, what else do you want?! He said. I can't believe you're arguing with me over a cake -- something so stupid. He said. Obviously Joe thinks not having a cake ready when promised, blaming the customer when his staff was wrong, and making a cake incorrectly is no big deal. That's a great way of thinking when you're in the bakery business. Ironically this was our second time ordering this cake from them because we liked it last time. But there's no call for being treated so poorly. Joe should be ashamed. We will never be back, and we will ensure everyone we know avoids this place. What a loathsome nasty person Joe is. For a Mother's Day dessert, instead of baking something at home, we decided to treat mom with La Dolce's Italian Cheesecake. Note that I've only tasted Italian Cheesecake once before, so my experience with this style is fairly limited. The crust was a solid both in taste and texture (literally) being somewhere between cakey and crumbly. Doing some research on Italian Cheesecake, the crust is often made using crumbled Almond Amaretto (similar to a Macaron) cookies which have those properties I mentioned above. However, the key to any good cheesecake is the filling and La Dolce's was quite tasty. Instead of the strictly cream cheese based New York style cheesecake, the Italian cheesecake filling is usually a blend of Ricotta and cream cheese or just Ricotta. Ricotta is a bit more crumbly with little curds versus the smoother texture of cream cheese, and this clearly translated to the filling. Rich, slightly creamy, and much more savory versus sweet, I also welcomed the clear use of lemon zest which complimented the richness. My only gripe was it was a pretty dense filling. One odd thing was that the cake tasted better a few days afterwards. Nonetheless we all enjoyed the Cheesecake for Mother's Day! read more

It is a very small place and you really need to preorder things, which is why I'm taking off a star. It would be great to be able to go in and have lots to choose from. La Dolce is a very good Italian bakery in Old Bridge. I never had any of their cakes, but I've had many of their eclairs, St Joseph pasties, zeppolis, lobster tails, cannolis, cream puffs, lemon drop cookies, and fig cookies. All are very good! My mom is always ordering their lemon drop and fig cookies from this bakery all the time, and I'm always eating them up! This bakery has solid pastries, lemon drop and fig cookies. read more

Originally shopped at LaDolce as far back as 1997. Over the years the quality declined and we stopped shopping there a few years ago. Had company coming over and needed a quick dessert so thought we would try again. WRONG....THIS WAS THE WORST 25.00 CAKE EVER!!!! Was supposed to be red velvet. The frosting was a solidified lard/cream cheese mess which was overwhelmingly flavorless and just thick. The cake itself was a 7 inch single layer cake cut in half and made to look like a normal size cake from the outside with excessive coverage of the disgusting frosting. I purchased a cake and lemon drops 1 months ago ( January) for a birthday. The cake was dry and the icing tasted like a refrigerator. I tried to give them another chance for Valentines day. I asked the lady behind the counter if the cheesecake was fresh, her response was "yes we just made it". I took it home and again this bakery disappointed me. Bought assorted mini pastries. These small pastries look and taste like frozen products that they thaw. My family didn't like what we bought. Lemon Coconut was dry and had a very odd taste. The Spumoni mini slices were the best of the bunch. Tiramisu was just ok, nothing special. The rest, weren't good at all. Sorry, but won't be back. Don't waste your money. The cakes and pastries are one of the worst I have had. They are old and should have been thrown out. The lobster tails were rubbery and the filling crumbled when I bit into it. The carrot cake must have sat there for more than a week being that the frosting separated from the cake and the cake crumbled as well. The chocolate strawberry shortcake must have also sat there for a while since the strawberry was beginning to have that spoiled taste. A waste of $40!! read more

Disgusting service. This is the second time in two days I walk inside and walked out with nothing! The first time I came in to buy a few cookies and a cupcake the total was under 10.00 and she says that there is a minimum 10.00 dollars. I Politely tell her then I will not order anything, she then rolls her eyes and says thanks for wasting my time. The Next Day I come in with my Girlfriend. This time we both have cash in hand and decided a bunch of cookies. The same Blonde woman was there. She tried to upsell two pounds of cookies because the cookies on the left side cost more per pound than the right side when you mix them together. Must say the WORST cupcakes I ever ate! My sister ordered 3 dozen cupcakes for a baby shower. She had specific requests for these cupcakes and was told it would not be a problem to fulfill these specs. They were supposed to be a split of vanilla and chocolate flavored cake, with a mocha ganache filling. Frosting was to resemble green grass. Well the cake was dry and tasteless. The filling was a wad of coffee (or maybe maple flavor we couldn't figure it out) frosting...not ganache at all. The frosting resemble a ribbon, obviously the frosting was made with shortening and not butter. Disgusting we will never purchase from this bakery again. read more
