A very nice italian restaurant in Lucerne. It wasn't nearly as touristy as a lot of the other restaurants near there. It had a simple, yet sophisticated menu. It apparently changed frequently. We had some raviolis and a pizza. Both were very tasty and even included some unfamiliar ingredients. The service was impeccable. The ambiance of the restaurant was romantic & warm. Lots of wine on display, white linens & candle light. My favorite part was that you could look into the kitchen as the food is being prepared. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good italian. I expected the prices to be much higher than they were as well. Very reasonable for Lucerne. They also have an English menu available which is helpful to Americans who might come in for dinner. read more

Delightful spot. Definitely the best meal we've had in Switzerland thus far, onto Geneva tomorrow. VERY attentive and friendly waitstaff, terrific ambiance and affordably priced. What I enjoyed most is the food was not over salted like one might find in the states. Papperdelle with veal was top shelf. Pizzas were incredible. Excellent place for family dining. We had a party of 3 including a picky teenager. We ordered a dish similar to Spaghetti Bolognese, a pasta with creamy white sauce, and a shrimp pasta with red sauce. They bring bread with olive oil and balsamic for the table which was delightful while we were waiting for dinner. We also had several glasses of Moscato d'Asti (delicious). The homemade ice cream is wonderful. Our waiter Rocco was excellent. We would definitely return!! read more

During our stay in switzerland- this restaurant was the most friendly, respectful, and attentive service we have experienced. The service was quick, timely, and professional. The food was excellent with overall smaller proportions then America. Would very much recommend this location especially for out of the county visitors. Other places we felt ignored and unliked. This is the best restaurant we ate in ,in all of Europe. We were on a Viking cruise, in several cities in Germany, France and Switzerland, but this was the best. We walked in with a party of ten, were treated like family. I cannot say enough about how great the service and food were. This place is a 5 minute walk from the train station, and not to be missed ! Excellent dinner here. Quality of the food and service was outstanding. This is a very hip place. Mostly well heeled locals. Noticed a couple of them had their dogs lying beside their tables. We were inside. A bit odd for this accidental American tourist but not all that unusual to see in Lucern. Beautiful room with a Tuscan motif, open kitchen and upscale modern feel. Food was excellent. I had the seafood risotto which was perfectly prepared. Others in our party had pasta dishes which were all excellent as well. Pricey but worth it. read more

Unfortunately we were there on a night where sixty people dominated the restaurant creating a sound wall so loud that it reverberated against the brain. If we were in Lucerne longer we would give it another try but our experience at Pastarazzi was so intimate and lovely it was hard to accept La Cucina's chaos and lack of personality. Mamma Mia, this is the best Italian place in town! It has a beautiful open kitchen with a traditional pizza oven and the interior is very stylish, ancient looking and mysteriously low lit. The food is great and the waiters are genuine Italians. The Italian opera they run as background music fits in beautifully and gives the place a very classy touch. By the way... you should absolutely go there to celebrate someones birthday... tell the waiters when you get there and you'll experience a very nice surprise around dessert time... :D read more

We stopped with my wife and three teenage kids for dinner. The waiter outside said he couldn't seat 5 outside but to go inside as there were plenty of seats. We went inside to a nearly empty restaurant and manager told us he couldn't seat a table of 5. We walked down street to nearly same situation and were immediately seated. Came here with a large group of family friends. The ambiance and location of the restaurant are great! 5 mins walk from the train station. If you're looking for a place with large servings for a group, I'd venture elsewhere. However, if you're with a small group in the mood for fine dining, this is the place for you. I was with a large group and I have to admit, we did have a lot of restrictions and requests. The service wasn't particularly great, but the food was quite good. The pizzas are woodfired and fresh, nothing extraordinarily, but the spinach ravioli was exceptional. I could come back here just for that ravioli. A bit over priced for quantity, but overall a nice find, just not what we were looking for at the moment. read more

My family and I went here two nights during our stay! The lamb chops were delicious! We also had the butter ravioli for a starter, two different kinds of pizza, pasta with creamy tomato sauce, wonderful desserts and an excellent wine selection to top it off!! We thoroughly relished our final meal in Lucerne. My husband and I shared our appetizers- the soup of the day, fresh tomato and basil soup. Also an Italian artichoke, arugula and fennel salad. Both were fresh and light in taste. The entree of lamb chops with potato and seasonal vegetables was cooked to perfection, moist and seasoned well. My spaghetti with clams and tomato in garlic and olive oil was tasty. The service was attentive, never rushed. Our dining neighbors next to us were friendly and even shared their wine with us. My first YELP review . . . so it must have been good! Passing through Lucern to catch a river cruise in a few days and we were looking for Italian. Read a few reviews here and thought we'd try LaCucina. So glad we did. BTW, packed on a Tuesday night in October . . . . hmmm. Ambiance was terrific (wonderful decor, open-air kitchen, formal setting but a more casual attitude), service was excellent (Maître'd kept the staff moving) and wine selection was solid (nice list that was ready to drink rather than being pretentious). And the food . . . was soooo good!! I had the price fixe which included Taglioni with black truffle, veal tenderloin with pepper, grilled zucchini, beans and prosciutto, and a parfait. The cost was SF68 and well worth it. The taglioni was heavenly and was almost a meal unto itself. The veal could not have been better; tender and cooked to perfection accompanied with a light mushroom sauce. I shared the appetizer and main course with my wife who ordered a calamari salad (she loved it) and it was just the right portion for both of us. I travel quite a bit and have enjoyed many meals at dozens of "fine" restaurants. I can think of 5-6 meals that were memorable over the last 30 years. Maybe I was just pleasantly surprised, but this was one of those meals. P.S. Make sure to let them know if you are celebrating a birthday!!!! read more

If you google what time this place closes on a Saturday, google tells you 12am. We walked in at 10:30 and were rudely greeted by the bald guy in a black suit with "we can only give you pizza" which was strange, considering it's an italian restaurant with an entire menu that consists of many other options besides pizza, and they were not set to close for another hour and a half. We were led to our table and sat down, and when we were not ready to order immediately the waiter made a face, so we asked "what time do you close?" to which he answered "in 10 minutes". It was 10:34. We did eventually order and got our pizza, and noticed that the women next to us were getting ready to leave, and a waiter politely brought their coats from a hanging rack somewhere behind the counter. We began to notice that every other table had also had their coats taken and hung. Meanwhile, our coats were hung sloppily on our chairs. Throughout the meal, we were given the most minimal consideration and felt rushed. After we were finished with our meal, I asked the waiter again what time they supposedly closed, to which he lowered his eyes and meekly asked "what time is it right now...?" i told him it was 11:10 and he said "oh... uh... 30 min...". So they close at 11:40. How strange! Very rude staff but I have to say, honestly, the pizza was delightful. :) Change your google hours and educate your servers on politeness and hospitality. read more

My husband and I had the most amazing meal tonight at La Cucina. Joseph the maitre de was kind to accommodate us, as they were extremely packed. We had read that this was highly recommended restaurant and believe me it did not disappoint. Our Amarone was excellent and it paired nicely with the black truffle pizza we ordered. I strongly believe that one could put truffle oil on anything and it would be eventful, but this pizza was beyond my expectations. Our waiter Pietro was accommodating and friendly. This is a must see in Lucerne. Pizza is not the forte of this restaurant, the pasta is, but we just wanted a pizza with wine. This place is everything one could ever want. Go for the pasta and get the pizza The wine selection is huge and the Italian atmosphere is fun and lively. The service is impeccable.
