This is it.
Granted we did not try every bar in Triana (although we gave it a good effort) but there are times when it is evident the universe can be kind by guiding us through the doors that we just walked through.
We found La Cruz the previous day after having a less than stellar experience around the corner at El Picadero. As we walked away from El Picadero we saw La Cruz and something unexplainable caused us to decide to come back the next day.
The atmosphere is basic cerveceria: a long bar loaded with tapas under glass, a scattering of tables, a newsrack stuffed with daily papers and a couple of old guys watching soccer (futbol) on the telly.
After receiving our glasses of wine the bartender began educating us on the tapa selection. While his English was limited to "hi" and "bye" we got instruction on a surprisingly varied offering of tasty tidbits.
We chose the Carrilla Iberica....we never looked back.
The beef was melt-in-your-mouth erotica. We have eaten a lot of Carrilla in our travels but nothing like this. The meat was well seasoned and the sauce was meaty, smooth and deeply flavored. The kitchen takes pride in this dish.
We then moved on to the Albodingas. While not as heavenly as the Carrilla, these were meatballs that put others to shame. Firm yet not dry, savory and coated with a savory sauce we wished we were hungrier than we were.
We finished with the gambas y ajo. Don't try this dish unless you love garlic...perhaps I should have said LOVE garlic. Wow, knock your socks off garlic simmered in olive oil that put our bread to good use.
The conviviality and attention we received was over the top. We came back (a three mile walk from our hotel) the next day for lunch again and were greeted with surprise (not many tourists return to the same place) and another sumptuous meal.
We suspect the next time we are in Sevilla....you will find us here. read more
