It's been a super long time since I was at an LA County Library, and this one is in the city of Diamond Bar. Recently, they collaborated with Hello Kitty and Friends and had a cool library card. The library opens at 10:00 AM and I showed up 40 minutes before they opened. Even with that much time there was already a line out the door. The librarians made this process fast and quick by handing out paper applications and pens for people to fill them out before it opened. Overall this took me about 25 minutes once they opened to get a library card and a cool bookmark to use. Can't wait to come back and check out some books. The process and employees really surprised me with how fast and efficient they were. read more

The staff was very friendly, and the library was clean and well maintained. I was actually surprised by how busy it was for the summer, with people of all ages using the library throughout the day. My friend and I were hoping to use one of the private study rooms, but they were all booked. For anyone planning to go, you can reserve a study room up to one week in advance for a maximum of two hours per reservation. We were a little disappointed that we couldn't reserve a room until later in the afternoon, but luckily we arrived right when the library opened and were able to find a table. One thing I wish the library would consider is allowing walk-in use of reserved study rooms if the reservation becomes a no-show. The room we wanted sat empty for the first hour we were there, and it would have been nice if someone else could have used the space instead. Overall, it's a nice place to get work done with plenty of natural light and a good atmosphere, although I do wish the chairs were a little more comfortable for longer study sessions. read more

I originally discovered Diamond Bar Library while searching for a quieter place to study after spending time at the West Covina Library. I still remember the first day I walked in here. The difference was immediate. The atmosphere felt calm, focused, and peaceful. It honestly felt like stepping into study heaven. For anyone who needs a consistently quiet environment to work or study, this has easily been one of the quietest libraries I've experienced in Los Angeles County. I spent many long hours here preparing for my medical board exams, so I really came to appreciate the environment. The layout offers a great mix of larger tables and individual study cubbies, and there are outlets available which makes settling in for long study sessions much easier. The library also feels very safe, likely because of its location next to City Hall and the fact that it sits a bit tucked away from the busiest parts of town. There are entrances in both the front and back, and I personally found the quieter seating area on the left side when entering from the back to be my favorite spot, especially the tables near the windows where you still get that nice natural light during the day. The staff has always been friendly and helpful as well. I believe one of the librarians named Jen really helped maintain a welcoming atmosphere. One thing I appreciate about this location is that they take maintaining a focused study environment seriously. For example, eating isn't allowed inside the library, which helps keep things clean and minimizes distractions. There is a garden area outside and you can always step outside for a quick snack break. After spending many hours here, I started to notice some of the daily rhythms of the building. The restrooms are impressively clean, which deserves a shout out to whoever keeps them maintained. The library also has a small bookstore run separately from the library itself, which is a fun little feature if you happen to stop by while it's open. If there were a few small improvements that could make an already great space even better, they would mostly relate to sound consistency. Because this is such a quiet library overall, small sounds can stand out more than they normally would. Occasionally conversations at the service desks or phones ringing can carry across the room, and sometimes outside maintenance work can be heard from the garden area. Nothing that ruins the experience, but little adjustments there could make an already peaceful environment even more ideal for studying. I also noticed that the closing announcements can be a bit startling if you're deep in concentration, so maybe a softer chime before the announcement could make it feel a bit smoother. Another thing that could help maintain the quiet atmosphere is occasionally reminding visitors with young children that certain sections are intended for quiet study. The kids' area is nicely separated, which already helps a lot, and a gentle reminder here and there would probably keep everything running smoothly. Overall, I'm genuinely grateful for this library. The long hours are fantastic. Being open until the evening made it possible for me to have full study days here when preparing for my boards. Yes, it was a bit of a drive from West Covina, but it was absolutely worth it for the calm environment and the ability to truly focus. Wonderful local library. It's on the ground floor of the building that also houses the Diamond Bar city services. We came to his LA County Library to get my 5.5 year old son a library card! Staff was helpful and friendly. He was happy to see all the books and very large kids section. We didn't check out a book this trip, but my son and his sister played in the area with a few food toys and kitchen. We will come back to check out more books and bring some home, so my son can learn to read better. There's so many resources that the library provides and now that my son is in kindergarten, I'm sure we will be frequenting the library often. It's nice that there's a restroom in the kids area, which was clean. You can park on either side of the building, which is something I didn't see until we walked into the library. Similar to all LA County libraries, it is still a bit small which is normal for an LA County library and the selection is a bit small/ old. Local library for my family. It's not the biggest but it has all the amenities that a public library should carry. The facility is fairly new (around 15 years old) located in the same building as the city hall. The staff of helpful and friendly. It can get pretty busy during the school year, but usually enough seating and study areas to accommodate. read more

I have been coming here for a couple of months mostly to study for the fall semester of college. I enjoy this spot for a few reasons: clean restroom, quiet work space, study rooms, outdoor area, free services, and Friends of the Library. I like how the restrooms are clean, smell nice, and there are ample stalls. In addition to a water fountain and plenty of parking. There are plenty of tables that include 4 chairs and charging ports. If you come when it's busy you may have to share a table. There are chairs scattered around for reading as well. In regards to the noise level, it can get loud in the kids section. I do expect the library to be quiet most of the time, however, this is a place for the community so coming around the time school gets out or around the weekend expect some noise. If this is an issue when you go, bring it to a workers attention and go from there. The study rooms require reservations beforehand, which can be done online (not sure about in person) and the room will be unlocked for you. The availability is open for study rooms so you are sure to find a time you need and can be reserved up to 2 hours. The outdoor area is open and a lovely spot to read or do work. It has nice umbrellas, a lovely mural and rocking chairs! It would be great to spend a day out here. The library has plenty of services such as a photo copying area, computers to use, and printing services. Also tons of community activities be sure to keep your eye out for those! The Friends of the Library is such a fun little place for me to browse books. Every volunteer is kind and I enjoy the range of books it has! Prices range from $1-$2 or $5 for a newer book. They also have a wall dedicated to "fill a bag for $2" where I found two books. This is a great spot to find books to add to your collection. A librarian went out of their way to shush me reading to my kids in the farthest corner of the kids section after arranging some kid's magazine section near us. I'm pretty soft spoken & was not speaking with a higher volume than their front desk workers were to each other. I was also further away from the next closest person than the librarians speaking at the front desk. There was no one in the kids section (the play/reading area or the computers). Displaying access to a bunch of toys doesn't seem conducive to an absolutely silent environment either while we're at it, but that's a separate issue as we weren't even using those. Prolly just 1 overzealous librarian trying to hold on to what little power they have, but maybe close the kids section if you don't want parents reading to their kids there when it's empty? It was a weird encounter with a silly old lady. read more

I lived in the Diamond Bar area for over 20 years and I always frequented the library during my school days. This is the newer location ever since they moved from the old location next to the city's fire station back in 2012-2013. I haven't actually studied in the new location until recently and my experience was pleasant. There are plenty of spacious seating and desks, and nearly every desk has a plug outlet for laptops, phone, and other electronic devices. On the day that I went, it was fairly quiet and a bit crowded with college students. But, that's what you got to expect at any library. I'll be back again someday whenever I need a quiet place to do work. read more

I'm only ever here when it's time to cast my ballot or to drop off my ballot for an election. This year with the pandemic, I opted to skip voting in person and to just drop off the ballot in the convenient ballot box located just outside the entrance to the library. For those not familiar, the entrance facing the street (Copley Dr) is for City Hall, while the entrance to the library is around the building in the back. Even prior to the pandemic, this part of Diamond Bar is pretty quiet and doesn't get much traffic. The landscaping and everything surrounding the building is always well maintained. read more

Delightful modern library designed by LPA, Inc. in Irvine. Diamond Bar city library teamed with natural light flooding through glass windows. Lounging by the bubbling fountain in reading garden was musical (see photos). Visited in the afternoon and librarian was helpful as to book finding. Umbrella bags and receptacle upon entry were a nice touch. Thank you. Many of the desks and computer areas were occupied. Kids, Teen and Adult zones in this library make for a harmonious coexistence. Several desks and tables are provided in a cool environment. If you just have a few books for a leisurely read you will find padded leather lounge chairs. Modus vivendi was silence and observed throughout library. Diamond Bar is a sedulous city. Study on a Saturday was not a chore. Books were truly a pleasure held in two hands and savored. Lovely library contained on a single level. Need more silence? Private rooms are available for reservation. Free Wi-Fi and computers offered. Do try the rocking chairs in the reading garden as they are "creak free" and under warm sunrays. read more

What makes a great study environment? Is it the absence of noise? Is it the lack of cell phone reception that forces me to have to actually focus on my work? Is it the overall mood, that everyone else is also hard at work? For me, a great study environment must have all these things, and Diamond Bar library definitely has these characteristics. Although Diamond Bar library may not be as cool as Cerritos Library, it has all the characteristics of a good library, and is very modern and clean. This is one of my favorite library to bring my kids to afterschool and on weekends. :) Pros: *Huge parking lot. The library is located in back of the city hall so make sure you drive around the back to get to the library. *Very big and clean restrooms. On some days, you may need to get the key from the front desk to gain access. *Very clean! *Lots or study areas with huge tables for studying (with electrical outlets for charging your laptops and phones). *Easy self checkouts using computers. *Friendly librarians and staffs. *Quiet (unlike the Walnut Library a few miles away). *Kids Friendly. They have a nice play area with blocks, play kitchen, and computers for small children. Cons: *Poor outdoor lighting. It gets very dark at the parking lot. With all the trees and lack of lighting, it feels very unsafe. read more

I've only been to this location once, and I really like it. The facility is super new, modern, clean and new. The staff are nice. Was in the area and needed to quickly research something, so I came into this facility to look up some books. The staff at the front was very helpful and pointed me to the right area. I found what I needed and didn't spend a whole lot of time there. If I was a student, I would hangout here all the time because it's very quiet, clean and peaceful and I would get alot of work done with no distractions. Ample parking, and the bathrooms are really clean. read more

Its a nice library but the main issue is that there is not enough tables. It was really packed and had almost no where to sit. I ended up sitting at the tall tables in the middle of the library but there was no outlet for my laptop! Super inconvenient. read more

I went to the library/city hall for baby/toddler story time on Tuesday mornings right when they open. The design looks really nice. At least it's updated with clean colors and decor. Yes, the library is a little small but it does the job with plenty of parking. They have a separate area for kids and a specific area just for story time. It's not a separate room but at least it's sectioned off. There are also computers with colored keyboards to attract kids. Here are the pros on story time: -lots of books and songs to go through. The songs, I've never even heard of. At least it's new. Although that could also be a hindrance cuz it's hard for me to follow the first time. -activity related to a theme. This week was about jungle animals -popular event. You can tell a lot of people in the community really enjoy it. cons: -the story reader/librarian was a bit strict. She says she'll tell people to come up to the front if they talk while she's reading. She also tells kids not to go behind her or she'll trip over them. It felt like she was scolding us before anything even happens -she spends about 5 minutes just talking about what's going on at the library. I felt it took up time that could've been spent motivating kids -Some books were tiny. I think a large hard cover book would've been better. Or, have more visuals to entice the kids. read more

I love studying at this place. It's quiet at certain times of the day. I believe if you're using the computers, you get to print 10 pages for free. After that you have to pay. I love the spacious table they have around the library and the plugs that are all on the table. The table feels nice and clean. It's not like the Rowland Library where it feels sticky and old. Interior and exterior is visually pleasant. This library tend to be quite cold inside. They have no control of the air conditioning. Make sure to bring a jacket or a long sleeve when you're planning on staying here for awhile. Studying and being cold is not a good combo. There's an outside seating spot to read or hang out with friends if you like. They have a specific area and there's a water fountain too. What's really a plus, is that they close later than all the other public library areas around here. Park in the back of the building, where the main entrance of the library is located. The front side of the building is the city hall building, but you can cross through there, when the city hall building is still open. read more

I needed a place to study and kill time in the Rowland/DB area and decided to check out this newly renovated library. PARKING: Plenty, big spots, lots of trees etc. Just keep driving to the back of the City Hall (or whatever that is) and you'll find the library. INSIDE: It's pretty nice, there are only like 10 or so tables and then some smaller individual tables with dividers and then computer stations. For a Friday at 1pm there were a lot of people, mostly older asian women and men and then a few people my age but overall I was surprised that I had to walk around twice to find a good spot to sit down. Good thing they have plugs at every table. It wasn't freezing and not dead quiet either, some guy kept answering his cell phone etc. which I didn't mind because I hate libraries when they are too quiet. The kids started to come around 3:30pm when school got let out but they weren't rowdy or annoying, just went on the computers and watched youtube vides LOL. One gripe is that the bathroom you have to ask the customer service lady to open it for you. She seemed annoyed when I asked and was just like "yeah, go ahead" and pressed some button to let me in. It's big and clean inside, not sure why they make you ask them but I guess it's to prevent strange people from going inside. Definitely a nice, quiet, clean library to study at. read more

Been going to the Diamond Bar Library for most of my life and I really love the new location. Granted, even though it's taken me awhile to write a review. The new location is more accessible, in terms of parking and such, and very inviting. There's even a reading garden where one can enjoy the sun. The Diamond Bar Library is located right behind the street entrance to the Diamond Bar City Hall. Drive around to the back, or park in the front and walk through the lobby to the library in the back. Items on hold are located to the left (from main entrance) of the circulation desk. There are also monitors in which you can check out your items on your own. If you do need help, there are librarians to help you at the circulation desk. I don't spend much time reading or studying in the library but there are ample seating and also study rooms around which you could reserve. Sometimes when I come during lunch, the noise level is a bit high but overall, it is a library and noise is usually kept low. The librarians are all usually very friendly and say "hi." Libraries always felt like a second home to me so it's always nice to see familiar faces, ie librarians, and etc. They are very efficient and are always quick to pick up the phone when you call in with any questions or need help renewing items. read more

Wonderful big library, went with my daughter who mainly stayed in the children's section but it was such a nice library. Cell Phone reception is really bad but that's not what you're going to the library for. They have a great kid section with a bunch of computers for the kids to use. this is one of the newer county libraries take advantage of it if you're in the neighborhood. read more

3.5 stars Newly built, this library is big and way better than the previous one on Grand/Diamond Bar Blvd. was! That old one was of the 80s, this one is the information age. Electronics are all over the place. Books are easy to find. You could easily spend forever here. Bad thing is that a) it's in the middle of almost nowhere. the government seems to be censoring the thoughts of the free people. the db library and its allies took down my review without any comment, or any attempt to reach out and resolve the issue! expected behavior from such an institution, i think. everything i've said in my previous review was true -- no made up details here. i will NOT be silenced. long live liberty! POST from Jan 2022 that was CENSORED: "ZERO STARS if I could. NEVER in my life have I been so immensely devastated by a public facility -- except perhaps the DMV (the fact that this institution is comparable to the dmv should tell you all there is to know) -- going to this place is a whole episode in mental dismantling that will take a lot of therapy to fix. first, we came here on a monday morning, and while the doors opened at exactly 10AM, the employees were just standing there in some weird formation as they watched us enter????? no one even seemed to be doing anything; everyone was just standing around aimlessly and seemed to be struggling to find things to do with their time (i dont blame them, working at this place would incapacitate me too) we asked one lady at the front desk for a study room and she was extremely rude, wouldn't even look at us, and barked "theyre not open." unfortunately, we needed to use a room for a call at exactly that moment, so we resorted to sitting on the ground in a corner, trying to be mindful and considerate of the space. despite the fact that no one else was in the library, a young lady who looked like the devil in disguise strolled up to us and told us to be quiet MULTIPLE times, even after we had tried to be more quiet. MIND YOU, there was NO ONE ELSE in the library, and now I know why. you would think that a public institution, especially a library, would have open internet access, but it was an immense battle to connect to the multiude of wifi options available -- and somehow NONE of them worked. i had to resort to opening a private hotspot connection, and when i tried to connect to the wifi again later, I was KICKED off my call. this was the final straw. this is a library????? why are we paying taxes for people who don't work, a facility that doesn't work, and services that aren't provided? i will not be returning here, and neither should you. i propose that the db library be completely defunded and the property be converted into something better, for instance a community farm. have a good day (much easier to accomplish if you don't go to the library:))" read more

4.5 stars Excellent community resource in a brand new building with lots of parking. I love the Reading Garden: it's a peaceful and relaxing area to read, with a nice view of the mountains. Inside, the library is spacious and clean. There are plenty of seats and tables available and the children's library is sectioned off in the back. The teen area is located in the middle of the library, right across from the racks and racks of DVDs for rent. Bonus points for having blu-rays available to rent as well. There is also a used bookstore that has a nice selection of books covering all subjects. I love the study rooms: although there are only two (three, if you count the teen study room), they are great spaces for studying or working. All rooms have large LCD TVs that you can use. It's easy to hook up your laptop to the TV via HDMI (bring your own cable) so you can share videos, powerpoints, websites, etc. with your co-workers or fellow students. Only two of the three rooms have whiteboards, though. Two gripes worth a half-star (or more, YMMV) deduction: 1. The wifi at this library is spotty. Sometimes it's easy to access, sometimes it isn't. I think this is a problem at all L.A. County libraries, since I've had the same experience at their other branches. 2. The study rooms are on a first-come, first-serve, free-for-all basis. There is no waiting list, so you have to either arrive right when the library opens and snag one of the rooms or you have to keep an eye on each study room and run to the librarian once it opens up. It's a bit chaotic and unorganized for me, but perhaps they feel it's the fairest way to dole out the limited study room space. read more

If you need a quiet place to study or read better bring your headphones. It's sometimes quiet here but there are often times a lot of children running around. Staff is great but the people who go to the library can be very loud. I recommend this spot if your looking for a group study place and rent out one of the rooms for 2 hours. My classmate and I were quietly studying amongst ourselves when a employee came over and in a very disrespectful manner asked us to either quiet down or leave. He claimed it was a "quiet area." I've never experienced an issue at a PUBLIC library open to the public including students. Thanks but no thanks - never again. Ps the staff I encountered were very rude and there is hardly ANY accommodations as far as long tables go for more than 2 people. read more

This is a local gem for mothers and kids. They have so many programs, events and such for all ages. Just went to one for kids under 4 reading. They had music, dancing, puppets, read 3 books, and craft. My kid was 15 mo. old and loved it. read more
