Centurion Fine Art Restoration - Repaired frame that looks even better than it did before it was dropped on floor.

When renovating…read moremy mother's home on the Westside after she moved to a nursing home in 2019, a construction worker inexplicably moved and dropped this painting even though I had set it aside with only a few items that I wanted to keep in a room that he wasn't even supposed to go in. Not only was this unique frame from about 1904 badly damaged, but about half of the molding was missing. To say I was upset was an understatement, and I assumed the frame was a lost cause. After finding Aixa on Yelp, I reached out to her in 2019 to see if she could repair the frame, but then life and the pandemic got in the way and nothing got done. I reached out again to Aixa in late 2024, and five years later she still remembered my email and this painting! I brought it to her studio, and she spent close to an hour explaining to me exactly how she would restore the frame step by step. I could immediately tell that she takes immense pride in her craft. I still don't know how she did it, but not only did she figure out where and how the broken pieces of molding fit back together, she also "magically" carved new molding where the sections were missing. Upon careful examination of the frame when I picked it up, not only were there no cracks but I couldn't tell where the broken pieces and her carvings all fit together. Perfectly seamless! I had hoped to only repair the molding, but ultimately Aixa took the frame apart and put it back together because the damage to the joints was worse than it looked. Despite the additional labor, she stood by her original estimate. Lastly, I didn't know this beforehand, but the frame isn't simply painted gold. Instead, to achieve the historical look of the frame, small pieces of gold leaf (you can use real gold leaf, but fake gold leaf looks just as good and is much less expensive) are carefully and methodically applied to the frame. Once again, Aixa's attention to detail and meticulous work is obvious when looking at the before and after photos! Her studio is no longer on the Westside, but totally worth the drive if you have something that you cherish and want to restore.

I recently stumbled across a very rare tap and die set. If you don't know what that is, it doesn't matter. The set comes in a green plastic box with a yellow silk-screened label. Sometime in the past, someone used a neon pink paint pen and scrawled "METRIC" across the yellow label. Every attempt I made to remove the pink paint, also started to remove the yellow paint. I thought, "who might be able to fix this without decreasing the value of my treasure?" Someone skilled in art restoration. I googled "Art Restoration" and find there was someone less than a mile from my house. I contacted Eve Matysek and she agreed to give it a try. The results were amazing. I think she performed some sort of magic on it. There is no trace of the neon pink and the underlying yellow paint is perfectly intact. Thank you Eve for a fantastic job.

In her native Poland she took part in restoration of a Rembrandt painting from the collection of the National Museum. In mid 1990s she was charged with restoration of the interior decoration of the Avalon Theatre on Catalina Island in California. She worked for many years as conservator for the American collector Gerald Buck, whose immense collection of California Impressionists was gifted to UC Irvine. I was pleased with her work on a mid-19th century portrait of a dignitary by the Russian painter Nikolai Dmitriyevich Kuznetsov, which required cleaning and repairs; as well as a late 19th century landscape by German painter of the Munich school. I was astonished to see Mrs. Matysek returning the paintings to their original condition as created by the artists.

All four have had issues , 2 having to go to someone else to fix them. One she did in a mat color she preferred I guess hoping I wouldn't notice or I would like it better. She did correct it and it cost me time and the hassle driving back and forth as I don't live close. One was cut and framed unevenly and stuck with it because it was a poster I bought on a trip to Denmark so it was a special item to me. The other two, the pieces keep falling out of place and one not sealed properly so moisture gets in somehow and has warped my hand screen print. To say I am disappointed is an understatement and to then to have my review removed was another slap in the face. My only recourse is to warn people because trying to deal with the owner was awful. Luckily I found another framer closer to my home who has done a wonderful job correcting the work but having to pay twice isn't what I signed up for. I also don't appreciate the aggressive response to my prior review before it being taken down like I am some bad guy. I was a customer who put my faith in a business and you let me down, an apology at any point could have gone a long way. I am not here to ruin a business but to let people know proceed with caution, there seems to be plenty of happy customers but I was not fortunate to be one of them.

All of our property has been in storage since we quickly vacated, and we do not know what was impacted by the water intrusion and mold, or what needs to be cleaned, restored, or destroyed. We have been forced to deal many vendors during this process, most of which looked for the easiest way to get the job done, cutting corners and providing horrible customer service. This was not the case with Katya. We reached out to Katya to help restore an original painting that was on a wall impacted by water and mold. She is a breath of fresh air. Her professionalism, passion for art, thoroughness and detailed process in restoring an important chapter in my life, is deeply appreciated! For all of you art lovers, history buffs and those who love the emotions of art, if you need any of your important pieces of your collection cleaned or restored, I highly recommend Katya! Not only was Katya amazing at bringing my painting back to its original beauty, she has an amazing character and is a true pleasure to work with.
