Melinda's art restoration is thorough and detail oriented. I would absolutely recommend her services to anyone else looking to have art restored. My grandma is no longer with us and had a very precious painting that traveled with her and her family from Hong Kong, to Beijing, and finally to her last home in LA. Unfortunately while we were transporting it to my house last year, we were not very careful and ripped the canvas in three places. It is a very very old painting and holds a lot of sentimental value, so of course we were devastated. I contacted Melinda and she gave me an estimate - I dropped the painting off and she explained all of the possible ways she could fix it. We chose the patch method for the rips, as I didn't want to lose the texture of the paint on the trees by relining the whole canvas. The price was very affordable, and she let us know it was done in about two weeks. In addition to fixing the three rips (we couldn't even tell where she applied the fixes!) she also stretched the painting and waxed the frame for us. I don't even know what to say about this woman-- she's a magician!! A careless assistant of mine dropped a large painting and it caused a large 3" T shaped rip, right through the canvas. I created a job on Yelp and Melinda was one of the first people to respond. She quoted me, and said she could have it repaired in epic speed. I showed up to drop off the painting and Melinda was professional, kind and warm. Her next door neighbor (business owner) sung her praises to me and boy was he right!! She had the painting repaired in 10 days, and this woman was like SERVPRO-- like it never even happened! You really couldn't even tell on the back that there was a repair. This review is merely about describing an atrocity that happened to me wherein Melinda Flatsker threw me out of her store in an offensive and humiliating way causing me mental anguish, when we were discussing the price to restore an old painting of mine. I was a returning customer, who had previously contracted her to restore two of other paintings of mine. Prior to arriving at your studio, I sent a high-resolution photograph of the painting via email as well as a vase, which had a piece break off and needed restoring. Here was the response to my email: "the Hungarian Man painting restoration: $ 500-600 based on what I am able to see from photograph and information provided I'd like to see the art both side before final proposal- thank you for understanding" She has been in business for some time and I am not her first customer. I highly doubt that I am the first person to take a photo and send it to her. She could have stated that she does not quote restoration prices based on photos, but she did. She could have added a fudge factor based on things not visible, which she did, hence the range and not an exact number. There is a reasonable expectation on the customer side when she provided a range in her quote. She is a professional and sells herself as such. She liberally quotes her background and education. I went to her store to discuss the price in person. I was hoping for $550, maybe $500 (based on her earlier restoration services), as this painting was in much better shape than the other two. She quoted me approximately triple the amount. I was floored, as the amount was not a little bit more, but $1,200 more than the top estimate. I questioned the amount, and she said that she was quoting the three big scratches. Nowhere in the response was the word "3 scratches". My next comment was reflexive. I said that I work hard for my money and asked her to compromise and meet halfway that I was told one price and received another. She then demanded that I repeat what I said (that I work hard for my money). I was hesitant to repeat to her what I said, initially because I did not even know what she wanted me to say. She kept after me repeating that I say again what I had said. I was no longer a customer, but a witness being grilled by an opposing side in some sort of court trial. I repeated what I had said. She walked away. When she came back, she said that she went to look at our email exchange. She said that she will fix the 3 scratches for $600 as she promised in the email. I should have immediately left, but I said that the email never mentioned the 3 scratches. She stated that it did and that she would not fix the vase and only the 3-scratches stated in the email for the top price. She then in a stern and raised voice demanded that I leave her store and never return. She repeated the demand after I did not leave fast enough. In all my years, that was the worst that a store ever treated me. She was very unprofessional and as such cannot be recommended. In a service industry, you are taking care of customers needs, and not looking at everything pointing back to you. The focus of the exchange was not about me and my problems, but about her and her self-esteem. Everything was about her. The funny thing is that things almost went south on the first project, when we first met. I felt belittled then too, just I wanted the painting restored. I should have walked away right then and there. I should have heeded my instincts, but I did not listen to myself. My bad. No customer should ever get treated like I was treated and as such I cannot recommend her services. read more

I brought an oil painting my grandfather created more than half a century ago. It had hung on the wall of my mother's office for decades. The paint was cracked and deteriorating in places. After a thorough cleaning, which revealed colors long muted by time and grime, Melinda gave me the choice of leaving the painting as it was - with all its imperfections - or allowing her to paint over those badly damaged areas. Melinda explained the pros and cons of both options, even going so far as to telling me another client had admired the painting and had urged her not to paint over the original work because then it would no longer be the original artist's painting. I chose to have her fully restore the painting and I'm very glad I did! I picked it up yesterday. It looks as colorfully vibrant as it must have looked when it was first painted. Words cannot express how thankful I am to Melinda for her outstanding restoration of my sculpture. I was devastated when a cleaning crew knocked over and broke the head and other areas of a sculpture that was created by my Uncle Mario in 1946 after world war II who moved to Mexico for a few years to paint and sculpt. Melinda picked up two contemporary paintings from us (apprx. 40 yrs old) that were severely damaged by a shipper - the outer edges of the paintings were in toothpick-sized pieces.
