I personally have never been told that before by a hostess anywhere let alone Gabbi's. But we wanted to be accommodating so we did find a 5th person to join last minute. Then we get there at our reservation time and were told we had to wait 10-15 minutes because they ended up reserving a 4 top for us (which would have been fine but we figured we'd be okay to invite a 5th person since we were going to sit at a 5 top). We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table. They were apologetic and told us they had told the party that were sitting in where we were going to sit that we were here and waiting. Not sure if she actually told them that but I found that a bit odd. So we get seated and were given complimentary chips and salsa for the wait. We were also told the manager was going to come by to speak to us regarding how long we waited and how we were told to find another person for our party. He never once went up to us or even acknowledged us until we said "bye" leaving the restaurant. The meal was great like always. We felt like the servers forgot to check on us and we had to flag down our server to get us water and more chips and even to take our order. The servers went to the host podium a lot to chat as well while we had no water. That is not the usual service we get dining here but it will be considered the next time we choose a place to eat.

When I spoke with a supervisor he came across as aggressive and made me feel like I wasn't even allowed to express my concerns about what happened. As a regular paying customer, that was incredibly frustrating. I'm not saying restaurants don't have challenges or that mistakes can't happen. He said he'd ask the manager. Fine. He came back and said no. I told him, half-joking, that's fine -- I'd talk to the manager when we were done. I did not demand she come to the table. I did not make a scene. Two minutes later a woman I'd never seen in three decades of eating here walks up in a confrontational tone: "Is there a problem here?" She is Linda, her family owns the place -- she made that clear -- and she was acting as manager. She then said a lot of people claim they've been coming for 30 years just to get a discount. She questioned whether I actually had, said she has never seen me before. She kept pushing after I tried to shut it down so we could finish lunch with family. Aggressive, condescending, and completely out of line for a drink-special question I was already prepared to drop. We offered to pay for the drinks and leave. She said she didn't want our money. Something about her father dying a year ago and he wouldn't take it either. A family that's run this restaurant for nearly half a century sent out a manager I'd never met to accuse a 30-year customer of lying over fifteen minutes on a happy hour price. That is not hospitality. That is not how you treat people who have spent decades celebrating here. I will never eat here again, neither will my family. There are plenty of places nearby that still know what a regular looks like.
