The salsa tastes homemade but had an off taste like it was missing something. Co worker ordered the chicken fajitas and I got the kids flautas. The food came out hot. My kids flautas came with a side of beans and rice. My rice was a bit hard and over cooked and minimal flavor. The beans also did not have very good flavor. This place felt more like a chain restaurant than just a local place.

I ordered the combo plate with a taco, relleno, and enchilada. The taco was decent and the enchilada had a dark rich flavor. I didn't care for the batter around the relleno, but the pepper itself was really good. The green chili that smothered the relleno was a thick sauce. It was really flavorful. Hubby had the beef flautas. I wish I had read the reviews first, because everyone said they were dry, and that was spot on. The tortilla was crispy, but I think you loose a lot of the beef tenderness when you fry them when the meat is already well done. The beans and rice were good.

Spicy Beef Nachos Appetizer: Chips topped with queso, green onions, jalapeños, black olives, tomatoes, guacamole, and sour cream. My friend got this and I had a couple bites. Served on a jalapeño bun with a side of our hot green chile sauce. Their signature burger and it tasted good. I don't need too much food but the amount of fries I got was too little even for me. Got two Johnny Walker Blacks with a splash of coke and they came well mixed and quickly. We did end up getting rained in and hilariously went back for a second dinner to wait out the rain. Black corn taquitos were OK, I would not get the fried shrimp basked again, the shrimp was too small and there was too much breading.

Most of the time, diners, pizza…read moreshops, ice cream parlors serve this purpose, and sometimes, cafeterias/coffee shops, bakeries do. A little bit less common yet, we find restaurants that provide this space over a long period of time. Martin's Capitol Cafe would be such. We ordered a tamale, carne adovada and a chimichanga. The chimichanga wasn't deep fried but pan fried, which was not common and already a red flag. We got our food and it was just OK. The chips and salsa were good, but the food was OK. My portion was also small, and the rice was a bit dry. Maybe we ordered wrong... The restaurant is also a bit well worn. It adds charm but I think charm that is not backed up with good food is like a band-aid over a bleeding wound.
