A friend and I spent the day shopping and stopped here to eat. The place is beautifully decorated and very clean. The service was excellent. Very friendly, helpful, checked back on us and never had to ask for a thing. The food came out super fast and it was freshly cooked and HOT off the grill. I had the carne asada tacos. The meat was very flavorful and very filling. The salsa Fresca was good but mild. I was absolutely stuffed but lunch was so delicious and I forced myself to eat every last bite. We recently moved to the middle of nowhere but Lima isn't too far of a drive. It is definitely worth the drive to get here. I will be back with family and friends. read more

My taste buds likely were spoiled while living in Arizona, California and Chicago, but Lacharreada tastes more like microwave meal than Mexican grill. On the plus side, service was super fast and friendly, and dinner was cheap. Minuses included awful cheese enchiladas, gritty chile rellenos, flavorless rice and pale, oatmeal-like beans. A truly mediocre restaurant, La Charreada is held in high regard by students at nearby Ohio Northern University. Unfortunately, this is mostly hype. LaCha has the token giant margaritas, giant burritos, and giant fajitas one would come to expect from a token Mexican place. The service when I went was at best mediocre and at worst nonexistant. I was served water once (no refills) over a 2 hour dinner, and my dinner, when it finally arrived, was definitely less than stellar. For the price, the food isn't too bad. I've always loved La Charreada. Sure, it's not the most authentic restaurant out there, but come on, we're talking about Lima here. The same city that protested "Rent" being put on at the Civic Center. Gotta cater to your area's tastes, however bland they may be. So you've got your basic fare of semi-authentic Mexican foods. Go into any restaurant like this and you'll find things just like this on the menu. The chips and salsa are good, all of the entrees are quite delicious, I've never been served a bad meal here. What really sets La Charreada apart is the service. I've never once had anything approaching bad service here. I'm always treated well, special orders are always done accurately, refills are usually prompt, and the food comes out very quickly. Honestly the only complaint I can levy against La Charreada is the hideous carpet. Like, good god, that stuff is an affront to the eyes. Oh yeah, and the Cable Rd location is definitely the better of the two, so keep that in mind. read more

Back in the day before Ada had it's own Mexican restaurant, Lacharreda was THE (only) place to go for Mexican. The food is pretty good, and they are flexible with making orders vegetarian. The margaritas are also very tasty, and a great deal if you split a pitcher with friends. The service: hit or miss. Sometimes you have your food before you can eat a third tortilla chip, other times you are so full on chips you aren't even hungry for dinner by the time it finally arrives! Maybe my standards are too high, but I really wasn't impressed with this place. Service was just alright, the guy seemed like he had much better things to do than wait on us and he tried to deliver someone else's food to us 3 different times. When my husband ordered a margarita, he asked for them to use a higher quality tequila. The server apparently didn't understand him because he kept telling my husband that it wasn't possible to do that because it would cost over $20 for the margarita. He kept mentioning something about too many shots. My husband finally gave up and took the house margarita. My husband seemed to like his fajitas, but my brother-in-law only ate about half of his super burrito (it definitely wasn't because it was too much food!). My flautas had dried out, tough meat and the ends were severely burned. When food says it comes with sour cream and guacamole, don't get too excited about getting a decent quantity... all of us got about a tablespoon of each. Very stingy with their condiments!! It isn't the cleanest place either! The hot sauce bottles that sit on the tables were sticky and crusty. The silverware was spotty, the table was slimy and the bathroom was disgusting. Thank God we don't live here, but if we ever want Mexican food in Lima again, we'll go elsewhere! read more

We went here over the Labor Day weekend. When I visit new Mexican restaurants, I usually start things out by asking about their guacamole (to see if it's authentic or from a mix) then order it. For me, that usually dictates how the dinner is going to be. It was decent, so I was looking forward to the dinner itself. I ordered their California Burrito with Carne Asada. Not sure what part of Mexico the chefs were from, but I'm not used to having my Carne Asada served with a sauce (and I don't mean a tomatillo sauce either). I'm used to it being marinated, grilled, sliced and served. Not this time... The sauce wasn't very good, the meat had little flavor and there wasn't much of it in the burrito. Oh well. There are no popping flavors anywhere to be found even in the guacamole and pico. The salsa, if "homemade," tastes like it's from one of those taco kits. It's bland. Relatively authentic mexican food for Lima, OH. The menu is full of different options and a huge bonus that there is are a variety of mexican beers outside of corona and dos equis. First of all, this place is not at 715 Cable Rd. It is farther down Cable - 1448 I think is the address. No matter as we'll never return. I've tasted some pretty bad Mexican over my 56 years on the planet but this was, hands down, among the worst. Lets start with the chips and salsa and the margarita - with salt, on the rocks. Very obviously not house made but the usual deplorable, out of a gallon jug sickening sweet mix. What every Mexican restaurant that really doesn't even try uses. If there was a thimbleful of tequila in it, I'd be surprised. The chips and salsa were "ok" at best. The chips seemed rather stale. The salsa was passable but nothing to get excited about. We should have stopped right there, asked for our check and left. But, we were famished and decided to try one of their lunch specials - a beef taco, a beef enchilada, rice and beans. What absolute swill. The enchilada had a spoonful of some neon orange sauce on it that brought nothing to the party. The "ground beef" in both the taco and the enchilada was tasteless, gray in color and obviously very low quality. The refried beans are in the same gray and tasteless category. The rice that was tucked under the taco had no texture - cooked beyond recognition - and no flavor. It was also more like a rice pilaf as it had peas and carrots in it. They probably buy it by the bagful from some third rate supply company. It is definitely not house made. And, if it is, the chef should be immediately dismissed. We each managed exactly one bite of each of the items on our plates then summoned the waiter (with the "I could care less" attitude), asked for our check, paid the bill and got the hell out of there as quickly as possible never to return. I had to laugh to myself when he asked if we'd like to go containers - obviously taking note that we ate next to nothing of our meals. My thought was "sure, if there's a trash container between here and the door marked "to go." Should have been a tip off to us that this place had next to no customers at lunch time on a Saturday afternoon. I see a review from Kiarash Z. dated 5-23-08 describing pretty much the same as I just did. I guess things haven't changed in 5 years. As for "looking for a Mexican jewel in Lima" - good luck. We drove to a couple of others before choosing this place. The others were in such scary locations we didn't bother to get out of the car. Still being famished, we drove down the road to Kewpee Hamburgers (never had one before) who had so much business they could have farmed it out. Burger, fries and malt were tasty. Their chili - not so much - must be an acquired taste. My recommendation for La Charreada: drive on by. You'd be better off with the junk from some national fast food chain. read more
