My husband and I popped into this spot with a strong craving for pupusas. We may have come at an off time, but the place was empty besides one other customer. The restaurant was spacious and clean, with colorful imagery on the walls. The brother and sister who were working the restaurant while we were here were super friendly. We ordered pupusas revueltas and pupusas con jalapeno y queso, and we also tried their platano frito (bomb), frijoles (extra bomb), and these little empanaditas made with cornmeal, stuffed with some kind of savory beef picadillo and deep fried -- I have no idea what they were called, but I'm coming back for more of them. The pupusas were MASSIVE. Like one all by itself could be a meal. They were very generously filled; the revueltas had a ton of pork in it, and the cheese and jalapeno one was oozing at the seams. Both were good but the cheese and jalapeno one was mindblowingly delicious. Our plates came with a whole bowl of curtido and a salsa dispenser so we could top our pupusas to our liking. I discovered La Ceiba shortly after moving to Long Beach. One night while craving Pupusas, I happened to drive by this place. The management was friendly and engaging. He told me about the restaurant's history, their scratch made masa & fillings, and even invited me to come back on wed night, for 1/2 price Pupusas all night long. The restaurant itself is Definitely NOT Fine Dining, but rather a neighborhood "hole-in-the-wall" type of establishment. The tables and chairs were mismatched, and the counter area looked a bit disheveled. The food was good. Not "Amazing", but good enough to satisfy my cravings, and keep me coming back for more. The counter worker that I engaged with, was kind & friendly. The food took a little while to come out, but this is common in restaurants that hand-make fresh Pupusas. I no longer live in LB, & haven't been back in years, I'll always have find memories of this place. read more

I always get el caldo de pollo! It literally brings me back to life. She makes everything to order so it does take a bit longer but it's totally worth it. I usually call to place my order and by the time I get there the caldo is waiting for me. It comes with rice and a little side salad and two flour or corn tortillas. Also handmade! I've had their pupusas too and they're amazing. It reminds me of my grandmas cooking. Everything is soooo fresh here. They have a little outdoor area to sit and eat your meal so if it gets busy there's plenty of room and a huge parking lot so no need to circle around a bunch. Looooove this place so much. read more

Baleadas are sooo good ! I always order to go, but today we sat down and had dinner here, Had a Chicharon amd cheese pupusa and a baleada. They are very, very good. They served us tajaditas, chops and a couple of enpanaditas with some delicious green salsa and beans to start ( instead of your traditional chips and salsa) Great customer service and clean place. This was my second time trying this place, and I was impressed again. The food was extremely hot and tasted very fresh! The Platanos with beans and sour cream were cooked to perfection. The Pupusas were steaming, hot and generously stuffed. The cheese in the pupusas looked as they were in a cartoon with how cheesy and stringy and full they were as we pulled them apart. And the star of the show was the chicharrón with yuca plate -- the chicharrón was steaming hot and well balanced with meat on it vs skin! The yuca was a perfect combination with the salty chicharrón. Very unexpectedly, the owner began a karaoke session with everyone in the restaurant. It added a very fun vibe, and almost like as if we were in a family party. I highly recommend this spot and I will definitely be back. Lastly, a fun fact that the owner's son told me the first time I visited is that his parents are Central American and Mexican, which is reflected in the menu! My dad Ordered pork pupusas with no cheese and they came with cheese and the pupusas are very greasy and not tasteful whatsoever. The service was very rude speaking to him in English when he speaks Spanish and they're clearly Latinos and the inside of the "restaurant" is very messy inside and they attend you outside and don't even let you inside. wouldn't be surprised if there were roaches inside. I have had take out from La Ceiba before, but I finally decided to sit down and eat here. Its on the way home for me to HB on 7th St near Nebraska in LBC. They offer Salvadoran, Honduran and Mexican food. I ordered two pupusas de chicharrones ($3.55/each). They were huge and packed with meat. You have to hunt for the meat at a lot of other pupusa places, and the portions are small. Secondarily, the curtido was freshly made and not too wet: 5 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, it has a bar atmosphere. However, it is very family oriented. Likewise, the service was friendly and warm. This is a family run biz w/ Abel (?) the son running the front of the house, mom doing the cooking, and dad taking caring of the b'ness end of things: 5 Stars. I'm not an expert on pupusas. However, I have eaten some pupusas in some Salvadoran enclaves in So CA. IMHO La Ceiba has the best combination of masa, quantity of meat and size vs price. read more

Me and my family came here around 7:00 to get some pupusas a few days ago since our regular spot was closed earlier than normal, and I think we found our new spot. The parking is ample, though I suspect on a busy day it might feel a little more cramped. Still, it was almost entirely empty and that's always nice! The ambiance is well done; the indoor decorative choices suit the style of the restaurant, which is really a mishmash of Salvadorian, Mexican, Honduran food, etc. The temperature was just fine, and the seating was comfortable. On top of the visual, the service is lovely. The man attending to our table was very personable and funny, and overall a wonderful host. The food had some crazy big portions, and it was all very good! I ordered a bean and cheese pupusa, but also got to try a chorizo pupusa, and a Caldo de Res, which had delicious broth. Overall, this place was superb. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the area is nice and somewhat quaint depending on the hour you go. My husband came in to buy pupusas yesterday spent 60$ , to come home and to bite into them and they smell SOOOO BAD alike if the cheese went bad or something even tasting them was disgusting !! My friend and I used to visit La Ceiba when it was at it's old location. Haven't been in awhile, but we were craving pupusas so we had to go. Wow. Such great customer service. Everyone was so friendly and sweet. Very helpful and attentive. The pupusas were fantastic as always. I don't have a picture, definitely just inhaled them. Absolutely can't wait to go back and highly recommend. There was karaoke when we went in on a Saturday evening. They also mentioned they are open for breakfast on the weekends now. My family and I have been going to La Ceiba ever since they opened up their original location on 7th Street. We loved the food (don't get me started on how delicious their pupusas are!), and the service has always been phenomenal! We love the fact that La Ceiba is a family run business, and they conduct their business as such. As soon as we opened our takeout container, the smell of burnt food hit our nose. The chicharron pupusas was overstuffed and the masa was thin. Amazing...my favorite place to come for Papusas. They have moved so at the place there is more room and as always I leave excited to come back again soon. This family owned restaurant brings flavor, fun, and most of all great food. Honduran Mexican and El Salvadorian dishes to your liking. When you sit down they bring you an appetizer plate on the house while you wait for you food. Getting off of work I got a craving for pupusas, to my luck this place has dollar pupusas Tuesday through Thursday. So I ordered 20 for myself and my family. Pupusas were alright. It's more masa than filling to be honest. The thing that really got under my skin was the packaging of salsa and curtido. The packaging was pretty much grocery bags you get from the fresh produce isle. I can only imagine how long those bags were sitting in the back. Or what they were used previously. Makes me wonder if the restaurant has had a visit from the department of public health. I had to throw everything away and to not risk catching something specially during a pandemic.
